  14. Oh well you are entitled to your opinion paul and so is everyone else, and i know a lot of peoples opinion of you is that you are also what you are .As for middleton im no expert but i know it hits the spot for an awful lot of people as do a lot of other clubs you seem to keep haveing a go at. I am indeed what I am. nothing more, nothing less. Its all we can hope for....if honesty prevails. I haven't had a go at any club. I just pointed out that some clubs claiming to be something that they are not. If DDA claimed we were an Northern soul oldies room or a pure crossover room, for instance, we would be misrepresenting what we do. So, maybe people need to actually read what I put and realise its not having a go, its pointing out some misrepresentation thats going on. I think every venue has the punters it deserves and thats whats needed. I attend Burnley when I can and , unlike yourself, I HAVE attended Middleton an many occasions and feel in a position to have an opinion......your permission granting, of course I have in fact visited, at some time or other, most nighters that have been and are going and I go for the music. Wilton was great on Friday, for instance. Once again, my initial statement was in response to someone who said "if you think you have heard all the sounds, get down to Middleton". I did and I had!
  15. just a reply to his constant digs joan, but dont flatter yourselves havent just removed the posts on this thread a lot more to life than ss so rather than the constant backward and forward digs decided not to take part anymore and just continue running the venues im involved with.If people want to come they will ,so i will leave you good people to it,hope somebody finds out what happened to ken soul. A musical opinion on a venue isn't a dig? If someone says "get to ---------- venue, if you want to hear new stuff" and the stuff isn't new,( in fact it was being played in smaller clubs years earlier and we were playing it), thats a FACT, not a dig. I think there is a large amount of Paranoia going around with some promoters who feel their venue needs to cover EVERYTHING in terms of the broad spectrum of 'soul' music. Some venues are BIG COMMERCIAL enterprises and thats fine, but dont tell me about the eclectic and open music policy and not expect a response. I LISTEN to music and I love it and I have visited a lot of venues and listened at ALL of them. Now -------------- may be the biggest, bestest, mostest, fullest, everest venue on earth, but it certainly isn't breaking musical ground. FACT and not a dig. And why should it do anything else? Its a successful all nighter venue and has a recipe that works for the nature of the 'social' event. As, I said, each to their own, but you are what you are.
  16. Wow, great memories. I used to go to Wirrena at that time. With Spike and some other from Spalding, I think!?
  17. Baby Please, Pretty Please on CAT mint- £200 superb and rare mid - tempo. pm if interested.
  18. Len Bland "operator" or your tips are welcome ) Wow, few people know this! What a great , mad tune. Sold mine to Karl Heard. Andy Dyson sometimes has it for sale.
  19. If you think you have heard all the sounds there are then get down to Middleton. I have and I had heard nearly ALL the sounds they played in the main room. A lot are from play lists from Soul or Nothing...a few years ago. Eddie Japer Daye, Jonathan Capree etc.... Now, im not knocking it, just saying that i personally, like a bit of anticipation (with regard to music) from a nighter and Middleton doesn't do it for me. I think, if you dont get out to soul nights aswell as nighters, you may be assuming that the nighters are where the new stuff is being played and broken, but, in my experience, they often get it way after the event. Soul nights all over the country including, Three Greyhounds, Greatstone, Lowton, Mansfield, etc (sorry for all those i haven't named!) are all just as responsible for maintaining a sense of excitement on the scene and are often the places where a real sense of the orginal, musical ,ethos of nighters, is still maintained. Each to his own, obviously. But I had to answer the statement.
  20. Thanks for the help.
  21. Paul, it ain't just the music it's going out to enjoy yourself,if you don't then ok,but lots do whatever their taste is.For a long time now l have returned to allnighters and have a feckin ball the key here is not to hammer it (every week ). When I do go out, I do it with an open mind and the desire for it to be good. That means people who want to dance, a wide variety of music and a good venue. But, usually and maybe the problem is most nighters play the same stuff, its disappointing! I often drive the 400 mile round trip up North to attend a nighter.....its a long way believe me. Especially when a nighter advertises itself as something, but fails to deliver. The same guests seem to be doing the rounds, playing the same stuff! So you can attend three different, big nighters in a short space of time and hear the same stuff hammered! I want to hear some NEW people playing out, then I have a chance of being excited and dancing a bit more (and I love dancing!). Its almost like a circuit of the same old same old...So, YES, its probably about going out less, which my recent experiences have certainly inspired.
  22. Nah Simsy...lots of scallies/chavs into petty car crime...smash and grab stuff looking for tool boxes...electronic equipment etc...I very much doubt it was soulies...they probably saw this big flight case and wondered what was in it...don't think it's any more sinister than that Id say they knew what to look for....would seem a bit random otherwise! If not, you need to scour junk shops as the thieves wont know what they have? Terrible mate, i feel for you.!
