    Rob Haigh Middleton via Telford Rob joined the Lowton ‘Party’ later than some but more that made up for it by embracing the Lowton vibe readily and wholeheartedly. A regular at venues across the Midlands, such as Bretby and the Lea Manor, Rob honed his love of 60’s rare soul and today collects and DJ’s with an eye (and ear) on the more ‘underplayed’ sounds our scene has to offer.     Paul Shirley _ Southport via Wigan Paul is a regular and well-known face on the scene from his early days at the Casino (from where he earned the nickname ‘Wigan Paul’…An avid collector and a regular at Lowton from early 2000 and one of the DJ team, Paul has, over the years bought and sold more records than most have ever owned. Paul’s collecting focus has always been the rarer end of the spectrum and because of that, he brings a wonderful selection of rare, original ‘oldies’ and ‘newies’ to the venues he DJ’s at.     Simon Ingham Stockport If our DJ’s were compared to pool players, Simon Ingham would be a ‘ringer’!     Ian Cunliffe – Lowton Leigh A LOWTON ORIGINAL, Ian was there from the start, although it would be true to say Ian has been there from the start of EVERYTHING! A real Soul ‘fan’ collector, record dealer, DJ and punter, in fact, Ian has a rich history of being either a customer or a DJ at many venues all over the North-West and beyond.     Takin' a look at some of our assembled 'spinners' for Saturday... Here's the first Calvin Lee Hughes – North Wales So taking a look at some of our DJ’s looking to entertain the crowd on Saturday, the first being Calvin Lee Hughes. Calvin hails from North Wales and is one of the younger members of our brilliant scene. It’s fair to say that over the years, Calvin has grown in stature and reputation as a bona-fide collector of Rare Soul and an excellent DJ as well.     Quite right Mick, we wont mention the night some unsuscpecting soul turned up selling their collection, now that was a feeding frenzy to behold, mentioning no names 😆 Going swiftly back to the music, a Saints 'On THe Real Side' 70's spin when 70's was most definitely NOT in vouge, the aforementioned Philharmonics, for your aural pleasure...happy days👍

    Room 3 Rare and Underplayed 60’s 70’s Soul and Crossover During its 20 plus years, LOWTON CIVIC had a rich history of pushing the musical boundaries not only in the main room with an exception guest DJ list but also in the two back rooms, with everything from the very sadly departed, Pete Coulson’s R&B sessions to a brief flirtation with Soulful House. But it was the ‘Room With a View’ and the superb DDA sessions hosted by Paul Sadot, Joan Livesey and the late, must missed and much loved Karl Rhodes along with their guests, who made such an effort to be a part of these back room sessions… The LOWTON back room sessions became the inspiration for the Kenwood Suite at the BURY TOWN HALL ALL-NIGHTERS, which in turn was continued and kept us all sane during lockdown as the Bury Virtual All Nighter online stream broadcasts. We are pleased to confirm that the Rare and Underplayed room at the Anniversary All-Dayer continues that ethos and many of the DJ’s involved in some of those brilliant sessions as well as some new faces will be digging deep into their collections to bring you an unrivalled selection of rare soul sounds from the 60’s and 70’s

    Now here's an 'under the radar' event that NEVER disappoints... Mine hosts, are Dab of Soul promoter Dave Lucas and Kev Rodgers, with Kev on a partial sabbatical for this one, but he has drafted in the rather marvellous, magnificent, musically-minded man that is Carl Molloy to take care of things in his absence. Guests on the day are North-West based Ged Lunt and Baz Maleedy, winging their way down with boxes of dusty vinyl to entertain the great crowd that assembles for the Groovin' Sunday sessions at the 'Tavern' in Derby.

    LOWTON had one of the most popular Modern Rooms in the country and Modern has its place with the monthly Modern Room at CULCHETH. That continues with Modern Soul, All Day in Room 2, with the ‘Do with a Do’ as it’s become known. Starting with Pete Ratcliffe and his ‘Review of 2024’, showcasing vinyl releases from last year. After that, the groove continues right through to 1am in Sunday morning and including a special session on Saturday afternoon featuring ‘Modern Soul Memories’ from the dancefloors early Modern Soul scene, watch this space…
