  5. Don't suppose you'll be able to get down there, but Rat records in Camberwell is worth a try. They put all the new stock out on a Saturday morning when they open at 10.30. It's mostly LPs and maybe one small box of 7s and it often turns into a bit of a bunfight, but you can be lucky. I've moved from the area now and haven't been there in months, but about a year or so ago I picked up an Innersection issue on Group 5 for three quid! Good luck wherever you roam...
  6. Thank you
  7. I am getting a bit sick of this. This auction was fair and square from the start. If anyone cares to check the Ebay sales thread on here, I posted that this record was going on Ebay when I listed it. Why would I do that if I then planned to rig the auction? Three bidders retracted their bids, two of whom went on to bid on the other one listed. The other bidder who was, at £1600, the highest bidder, disappeared but will no doubt reappear when the second auction reaches its conclusion. I will say this once more - I had nothing to do with any of the bids made on this record and people insinuating that I did should think before they make these kind of accusations. I am particularly surprised and disappointed at you Pete. You should know better than anyone that selling records is often as much about reputation as anything else. How is it fair that people can come on here and basically call me a crook simply because another copy of this record got listed and muddied the bidding waters? How would you feel if people were saying this stuff about you? Call me melodramatic if you like, but this is defamation pure and simple. A couple of hundred years ago, it would've been pistols at dawn, but these days, cowardly clowns like this waggy character can hide behind their keyboards and throw these accusations out there willy nilly. If this was the corporate world, solicitors letters would be flying everywhere. My partner's from Chile and they have a saying: "Never spit at the ceiling". Some on here could do well to take heed of that.
  8. Just as a final aside - the bidder you refer to as having a 35% bidding activity with me and me alone actually has a 35% bidding activity with me over the last 30 days (not unusual I would imagine). Their top bid of £880 was outbid on March 28, since when they have not placed a further bid - go figure
  9. Jeez. Talk about rubbing salt into wounds. Has it not occurred to you that IF I was trying to rig the auction I would've had the sense to get my moody bidder to withdraw their bid when it was too late for anyone else to withdraw theirs? How does an auction going from £1600 to £900 actually help me? This auction has now been well and truly scuppered, most likely simply because another copy was listed and the bidders got rattled. And yes, you are entitled to draw your own conclusions. You are also entitled to keep them to yourself, or, alternatively, direct you energies towards something that actually concerns you.
  10. JUST SO WE ARE CLEAR. I AM THE SELLER AND THERE IS NO RODENT TO BE SMELT. THIS RECORD WAS PUT UP FOR AUCTION IN GOOD FAITH AND WILL BE SOLD IN GOOD FAITH. Some bidders have retracted bids, possibly to bid on the other copy that's been listed or possibly because they have received a big gas bill - I don't know. What I do know is that I am not acquainted with any of the bidders - retractors or otherwise. I sell a fair bit on Ebay and resent any suggestion that I am anything other than honest. I have also sold records on here on a number of occasions and there are plenty of people who've bought from me who, I trust, will vouch for me as a genuine seller.

  14. Few bits for sale: Roy Hamilton - Don't Come Crying To Me (Bron Assoc Publs Ltd 1-sided acetate) EX- OFFS SOLD Bit of an odd one this, as it looks like a UK acetate, but the record never got a UK release. Not strictly Northern, but a great artist and I'm guessing a rare piece. One for the UK collectors perhaps? Anyway, putting this up for offers, not because I think its hugely valuable, but because I have no idea what price to put on it. It's got a few light marks but plays really well, with none of the hiss you often get with acetates. See scan of label below. Sound file available on request. First decent offer gets it. 15. There's a nice soulful version of this by King Sporty - came out on Attack in the 70s
  16. Like the unexpected find thread, this has probably been done before, but here goes... Not strictly soul, but close enough for many here to understand the weeks of misery this balls-up caused... This is exactly what happened - no embellishment... A couple of years ago was doing my usual sweep of a boot sale in Kent, asking all the cars if they had any records (unpleasant, but necessary these days if you want to get anything). The boot fair in question is not a big one and there were only two or three other record heads there, all of whom were way behind me, checking out the cars I'd already asked. Anyway, I'm getting the usual answers: "Oh, I've got loads at home"... "no, I threw them out years ago" and suchlike, along with a few people handing me stacks of Jim Reeves and Jack Jones LPs after I'd waited ten minutes for them to unearth them. It's getting to about 8.30 and I've got nothing. Then this blue van pulls in, pretty much the last arrival of the day. I wander over meaning to ask him if he has any vinyl, but, having had such a crappy day, I just glance in the back of his van, see a bunch of tools and stuff and don't even bother to ask. Ten minutes later, I'm walking back to my car when an antiques dealer I know comes over and asks me if I'd seen what these two other record heads had just found. "No", I say. "What?" "Big box of reggae," he says. "From that blue van over there." Later, I have the misfortune of seeing for myself what the two of them bought. Sitting in the back of one of their cars is a crate of about 200 singles - all reggae, all UK label late sixties stuff and all in EX condition with centres intact. There's Blue Cats, Studio Ones, Coxsones, Crabs, you name it, UK Trojan-related labels I've never even seen before. The only flaw is that the bloke whose collection this obviously once was has written his name in tiny biro on the centre of each one. Apart from that they are pretty much unplayed. Turns out the two guys (both of whom I know pretty well, and neither of whom are into soul or reggae) had arrived at the box at pretty much the same time and decided that the only fair thing to do was to share the find, so they bought the whole box and split it later. And the price paid for this once-in-a-lifetime find? £25 I didn't sleep for about three weeks
  17. On a trip to Philly to visit my brother in the late 80s went to New York for the day and stumbled into a vinyl shop. Was disappointed to see that they had no 45s only LPs, but decided to have a quick look anyway, hoping to find some LP only items. The only thing I came across was a plain white sleeve with Thelma Houston - Ride to The Rainbow written on it. The price was $1. Decided I'd buy it for the Saturday Night, Sunday Morning track even though it had no cover. Pulled the disc out to check it and realised instantly it was the wrong record as it was on the Mercury label. Closer look - Alfie Davison - Serious Business 12". Happy days. Swapped it a few years later with Manship for the Arcades on Triad. Still not sure if that was a good deal...
  18. b/w Wha She Do Now Want this in VG+ or better, preferably with a centre Anyone? Please PM with price and condition. Thanks
  19. To avoid confusion or overgrading, I don't use any grade above EX, so if it's EX it's clean and tidy, probably NM to most people. VG+ will have a few light marks but they won't affect play. A VG grade means that there might be a few pops here and there, but nothing too serious. Anything under VG will be described as accurately as possible. Any label writing or damage will be mentioned, so assume labels are clean with centres, where applicable, intact unless it says otherwise.
