  2. We would most likely book Scandinavian DJs for the event, maybe a couple guests from elsewhere. What I'm more interested in finding out from others who've hosted or attended weekenders around mainland Europe is how & why they've been successful (or not), and if people are willing to travel for these things in addition to the local supporters of this music. There's no question it'll be "our own thing", just curious if anyone else cares to listen?
  3. We've been tossing around the idea of perhaps planning a soul weekender here in Copenhagen for this coming summer, but I wanted to ask on here and gauge how well some of the other weekenders going on in Europe go over. How is attendance? Do most attending seem to travel for said events? Can you feel a difference between when you have a weekeder and a normal soul do in the audience and their reception to the music? I understand that booking quality DJs is the most key thing in order to have good numbers attending, but I'd love some discussion about what else makes a weekender work.
  4. Jimmy Delphs - Don't Sign The Paper Baby one of the first northern records I bought (even though now I wouldn't really consider it "northern" per se, you can dice that up however you'd like), but unfortunately my mate who I do my monthly nighter with loves the bleedin' tune, and demands I play it every time we spin together. It really does make me cringe for some reason these days though. I'm thinking of perhaps just giving it to him once and for all...

  6. and to clarify, yes, it came from the Las Vegas source, along with a very good sounding copy of Bettye Scott & The Del-Vettes on Teako
  7. anyone have this one? I've seen it go for what I consider it to be high prices for a boot. I just picked up a copy and find that the sound quality compared to the clips I've heard (which must be sourced from the original LP) is pretty bad, very muddy and distant sounding on my deck for such an upfront, punchy track. Completely lacking in mid-range. Anyone else have this issue or experienced this with a copy?

  9. also, that boot has an edit version without the guitar solo. but seriously, of the boots I do own, that one is the the shoddiest.
  10. I guess the £5 boot I have of this is OK to play out, because even if the sound quality is absolute sh*t, at least it doesn't skip?

  12. not sure if this has been posted here before, but a nice read if you haven't seen it before: https://testpressing.org/2009/10/the-face-northern-soul-a-primer-for-the-new-soul-rebels/
  13. ...and I realized I totally just outed myself. yes, I'm an infiltrator
  14. as a young person on this scene (aged the same as these "kids" I would hazard to guess) I find this stuff to be very inspirational indeed, because it makes me feel like I'm not the only young gun out there thats truly passionate about this music. Hopefully I can hustle myself over to the UK one of these days and dance it up at one of the big soul do's, though my steps are nowhere near as impressive
  15. you could always counter-offer too; never hurts to ask, as they say.

If you're perpetually broke as I am, then sniping has the benefit of helping you budget your record buying. By setting a snipe for the amount you have to spend and leaving it, you know that if someone sets one for higher and wins it then that's that. Rules out that last-minute "ehhh what the hell, another 20 quid wouldn't do any harm", and then you spend the rest of the week eating bare pasta or ramen noodles. I used to be a staunch no-snipe kind of guy, but after losing far too many good records for pennies over the amount I bid, I caved and have never looked back.
  17. have only seen photos, and the exact record escapes me at the moment, but the best and most bizarre I've seen was a rare jamaican 45 where a red stripe cap had been pressed into the deadwax/label area. still miraculously played fine, and the seller did end up selling it for quite a bit. must've been a few too many spliffs shared on that lunch break.
  18. post from denmark at cost, paypal as gift. grab 'em up! 19. anyone else have an idea of who it could be?
  20. Both the Exsaveyons and Profiles records make it into just about every set I play, top recommendations!
  21. 'fraid not Alan, though thats a fantastic voice!
  22. hi all, I've been fixated on trying to find this record I distinctly remember being a Florida record, of the more mellow crossover variety. it was in a lot auction on ebay a while back that i lost, i believe from that seller who lists mostly lots of beach music, but this had more of a crossover feel. from vague memory, it was on a pink label that perhaps looked like the thomas records logo? had a kind of tinkling harpsichord type bit running throughout the song. male lead vocal, I'd hazard to guess it sounded like early 70's? I know this is all vague, but if anyone has the faintest clue, I'd appreciate it. thanks!
