Venues Too `sterile`?
I wasn`t suggesting that people do and sorry you think it`s a stupid thread. I recently went to a soul night held in a spotless social club, brightly lit, tables and chairs everywhere, small concrete dance floor, pristine facilities, clean and tidy bar etc. but despite some great records being played there it just had no atmosphere and I might as well have listened to a load of records at home is all I`m saying

Venues Too `sterile`?
Following on from the recent thread about Mr M`s - it brought back so many memories. Wigan was the only Allnighter I ever attended from 1976 to 1981, and somehow a crumbling, rabbit warren, wreck of a place with nicotine condensation dripping off the ceilings & walls somehow added to the `magic` of the place. I attend soul nights again now but they tend to be in social clubs etc. and I just wonder whether holding them in such `sterile` places detracts from the atmosphere we all enjoyed back in the day. There could well be venues around today that match WC (though I think the Health & Safety bods would probably take a dim view of such places). Are the new breed of Soulies happy with what`s out there? I guess if they have nothing to compare it to then they`ll never know?

Hi Pete, Great stuff - name your price and I`ll pay by Paypal if that`s OK? Thanks bud

Mr M's Wigan
Hi Pete, Thanks for the link but I`m at a complete loss as to how to transfer to cd - hence my appeal to the good folk on here who might make a middle aged man very happy by doing it for me and charging whatever?? Have to say it brings the memories back. I always said that if I was ever given one wish, I would go back to a Friday oldies night at Wigan Casino with the wisdom I have got now. I would relish every moment like it was my last not to mention buy all those records that you weren't sure of in the day but now know are monster rarities that fetch thousands!

Mr M's Wigan
Can`t even find this in the audio section, so again if some kind soul could burn this to a cd for me then I`m more than happy to pay for costs, time, postage and materials?? Please send a PM if you`re happy to do so for a techno Luddite! Thanks in advance, Pete

Mr M's Wigan
I`m a real Luddite when it comes to technology - is this easy to burn onto a cd? Otherwise if some kind soul could do it for me I`ll willingly pay for their costs, time and postage?? Thanks and regards, Pete

Why Have People Who Should Have Written A Book Never Done So
Unless I`ve missed it, no-one seems to have mentioned Mr Manship - now there`s a man who should have a few tales to tell??

Why Have People Who Should Have Written A Book Never Done So
For my money, I`ve read quite a few books on the Northern Soul scene and have to admit the ones written from a personal perspective all seem to follow a well worn path - first time they discovered the music, first trip to an Allnighter, taking speed, eventful journeys crossing half the country etc. As others have said I`d love to read about the music from the perspective of folks like John Anderson, Richard Searling, Ian Levine etc. who were at the real coal face - discovering sounds, being at the right place at the right time, ones that got away, breaking certain records etc.

1980's Northern Low Point
You`re absolutely right Byrney. I quit the scene when Wigan closed and have only just recently rekindled my interest in Northern - I`ve been enjoying `catching up` and have certainly heard some brilliant tracks for the first time.

Mayfield Demo ?
Thanks guys, my fears are confirmed.

Mayfield Demo ?
Hi, I`ve just started buying my second record collection from scratch and I know I should be buying the Fascinations on Stateside or Sue, but this popped up on Ebay and I`m wondering whether it`s the real deal? To my uneducated eyes it doesn`t look like a `proper` Mayfield demo (although I have to confess I don`t know what that would look like!). Just seems to be lacking in label details? Sorry if it`s a numpty question!! Thanks. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111080558024?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Are Your Trophy Records Up On The Wall?
Yeah Geeselad, maybe a wrong choice of words - I guess what I was aiming at was those records you`re really proud of owning? That better? ATB Pete

Are Your Trophy Records Up On The Wall?
Hi Peter, that was an attempt at humour on my part which failed miserably! Blimey, you sure have had more than your fair share of bad luck. I genuinely hope you`ve turned the corner. Best regards, Pete

Could you be a little more concise please Peter

Are Your Trophy Records Up On The Wall?
Personally, I don`t have any yet after selling my collection for peanuts back in the day and I`m having to start all over but I was just wondering how folks keep their treasured items? Are they kept in boxes etc. or do any of you hang them on the wall for all to see and drool over? ATB Pete
