Simon says , if you're serious about northern soul , we'll I'm sitting here gone 1am this morning wishing I was at a niter , that's when you know something as got you by the gonads , when you've set out at early o'clock looking for that bloody hard to find venue tucked away on a industrial estate in Wakefield, or in the middle of Manchester, or on Oxford Street cor it's big init? That's what this place is its hard to find , it's a little bit of that underground hard core soulies crave , I get it now, its a lovely venue, & gosh the tunes played here were superb allrite , this is gonna go big time , give it a go next time so long as you don't want 'no body but me ' 'Time ' & ' little bit hurt ' you'll be fine here , me ? On my calendar already ,defo , still buzzing gotta get some zzzzz , out at 8amm for breakfast then to watch Notts County! Keep the SOULcial!

Another great night at this latest SOULcial gathering well over 150 attending, dance floor virtually full all night , slow start for me ,legs still sore from hiking on kinder scout day before , but gave me chance to catch up with few mates, Steve Hinds out on the floor again nice to see , young Amy from Sheffield dj'd (great spot) & danced all night, thanks for coming to Basford, think I can speak for everyone you lot are always welcome, Dave & Dave were 'spot on ' as per , Rob 'carrier bag' Smith oh boy! he as his box of TUNES , & his carrier bags ! Someone asked for Rita & tiaras 'Gone with the wind' he only pulled an original out of a bag ! 'Knew I had one somewhere ' he said .Like a magician pulling rabbits out of a hat ! I know people that would have had a heart attack! Fantastic entertainment mate & great to see you looking so well , 'till the next time koko .

How hot ? 30c surely, humidity 100% , dancers still giving it some when I left at at 10pm ! Incredible! 9 hours I did , sore feet beat me had to change my soaking wet socks ! Got home & stood on cold kitchen floor , bliss , almost as good as making love . Dj's were outstanding all day long some slowed the tempo , some just said f**k it you're having it , take it or leave it ! To all that attended you know you were part of something very very special, thanks for putting it on Grosvenor Team , in training 'till the next time , koko .

Said it before in previous years this is one of those must attend events for me , everything I do this week will be warming up for Sunday , there's a real buzz around peeps asking each other 'are you going to the Grosvenor ?' It's gonna be a special day methinks , a long day , no one loves uptempo northern soul than me but a request to the DJ's , please mix in some beat ballads & mid paced tunes please 🙏 yes I'm asking for quarter , I'm not surrendering not yet , but I'm also trying to break in a new pair of dancing shoes , honest to goodness! see you at the BIG SOULcial gathering x

Another storming night in Nottingham , been busy all week so could easily have stayed in & watched the snooker , so glad I didn't classic northern anthems mixed in with some soulfull tunes, its like a test how long can we keep the feet to the beat ? Boy did I try especially when I heard the Inticers 'Since you left ' count on one hand the amount of times I've danced to that & you would probably have a couple of digits left anorl . Soz I don't know who played it, all I'm about is the tunes & checking in with mates . Thank you to everyone involved life without you would be barely worth living, koko

Bing bang bosh what a night in the true Grosvenor Rooms tradition wall to wall 'northern anthems ' wet through with sweat right down to my sloggi briefs , legs that stiff the only way I could get down the stairs this morning was to bump down on my arse , brilliant thanks guys no quarter asked no quarter given , counting the days to the charity all dayer in 2 weeks , tis one of the events of the year, come along & get those feet to beat , see yous x

Good number of brave souls turned out on shocking night weather wise , could hear rain on my living room window but not wanting to change my plans I took off through the drenched night . Why ? Because I was hoping the boys from Sheffield might play some alternative tunes , & they did , some I liked some i didn't, 'having fun' from the Bobbettes was nice to hear by Dean , but , tune of the night for me 'only lies' by Reatha Reese wow played by Mopsey , one of those moments where you're out the room chatting ( to Jona & Rob Smith ) & you hear the 1st bars , sorry guys feet to the beat time gotta go , never ever heard it played out before , only known cos I have it on a soul supply compilation . Resident D J's stepped it up too , thank you , went home happy only saw half dozen daft bar stewards all the way back to Nottingham. Out tonight Grosvenor Rooms see yous x

Very sad times he put the Northern into soul for a hell of a lot of people in Nottingham, never seen anyone that could rock the joint like Chris. He would put Billy Butlers the Right Track on & the place would erupt , why ? Cos its one of those tunes that had you pushing your way on to the floor as a kid , he made you feel like a kid again , thank you Chris for those memories, rest in peace bro x

Just want to say thanks to Big Man records & everyone involved for releasing Jimmy Radcliffe Big City Blues / You can't lose something you never had, awesome tunes & brilliant presentation with picture sleeve &' notes . Received mine yesterday played it a dozen times , can't believe all these great sides are still being discovered it's a great & affordable way to carry on collecting, again thank you , Martin

As me mam used to say 'you wouldn't turn a dog out in this' -shite weather doesn't deter me when a perfect dance floor is beckoning. Awesome tunes played by the DJ's & then some , thanks for great night guys, still some soul left in these old shoes , not sure about me legs tho bit sore this morning!

What a return to this now beautiful venue , so packed you couldn't find a space on the dance floor , so packed you couldn't get a drink ! Ran of beer anorl! The management were warned enough times about what to expect , cloth eared boggers or what ? TBH they just not geared up for a big crowd. Nowt stops soulies having a good time when they're up for it , don't think Mal wants do another one , you have enough commitments anyway m8 . Thank you to everyone for turning out & making more memories, now then wheres that sunshine ? My battery needs a boost! Koko

Here we go again ..... next up on Mals SOULcial gatherings , the much missed Friday night down the Polish club in the Heart of Nottingham , same format as before , I'm quite happy to play a few tunes to warm yous up , not too much stomp but plenty of soul , see you there my friends x

Not just a soul night , a social gathering, soul music for all tastes, reminds me of Hucknall & Linby miners welfare back in the 70tys , what a venue that was ! I'm ready now !
