...I was Ted....both times upon my 'return'!x My 'oldies' came from 100 tunes put on tape in 77/8. Perhaps mainly Wigan/Torch and 'old soul' tunes like Big Bird Eddie Floyd and stuff! It's all I knew....for 17 years listening in me car. When arriving on the scene proper in Xmas 1992....only about 10 of those 100 tunes were being played at doo's....be they Soul Nights or Nighters....Nationally. I found tunes were popular on a 'local' scale....ie a tune that was popular in Cambridge because of the St Ives influence back in the day...may never have been spun in at the same voracity as it was say in Manchester....and so to those.....it was 'newish'...or a little played 'oldie'....! That was my experience whilst on 'tour' for the next 8 years too 2000. Last week-end.....20 years later.....I went to 2 functions....an Anniversary and a Dayer. Tunes from my tapes from the 70's were played at both! But....not the 10 that were being played 13 years ago when I left......but other ones......and......it was brilliant!x I think Chalky said it in another thread.....there are many of the 'top 500' that don;t get played......and....there are tunes that were 'regular' back in the day that didn't make the top 500.....that also have been missed/forgotten. We may talk about them.....but when was the last time you heard them at a doo...or dance to it? Familiarity breeds contempt...I figured that 20 years ago. Folk knew every tune I played generally......BUT.....they just hadn't heard them or danced to them for years! I was a 'punter' who had that experience last week-end at both functions. I was dancing to tunes that I never got round to playing in the 90's....but are having their day now.....35 years after I first heard them!x Bobby Diamonds 'Stop'....James Bounty 7 Day Lover......2 tunes I played 'locally' at me Soul Nights when DJing....but never heard them spun elsewhere in the 90's on the A/N scene or owt! Both were spun last week-end to much acclaim....and perhaps it was the first time i'd actually danced to them myself as a punter....since me bedroom in 1976/7...30+ years after those tunes were supposed to be 'classics'....!xThat's after being to over 400 functions in me time with a serious commitment for going...as a Promoter or DJ....which meant I was 'switched' on to what I was hearing...and dancing too!x I was pleasantly surprised last weekend at the amount of 'oldies' and what would be considered 'state of the heart' tunes being played....the quality....and indeed witnessed the enthusiasm they were received with by the dancers and punters!x Good times methinks are ahead!x During my spot....I played 15 records.....and 6 came from my 100 tunes on tape. Nobody played them all week-end....yet 'bread and butter' really!x What others were playing were tunes from the classic era that weren't played in the 90's with any vigour. I was one of the widest travelled DJ's back in the 90's to suss out the National picture. London/Blackburn quite often in the same week-end.....Birmingham/Leeds/Bristol for a change!x Winsford/Droylsden/Bretby/Manchester.....and all of East Anglia 'covered'...then yep....I do believe based on the forum comments and what I heard last week-end Ted...old and new......things are 'exciting' out there...I reckon!x LUV SOOTY X ....blimey....I dunno where this came from in me head......never ever ever played it........! ...that Lonny Lester will ALWAYS get me movin' Patto!x As you say mate alot of R&B stuff was huge in the 90s A.C Reed Gerri Hall Patience Valentine Big Daddy Rogers Etta James Joe Tex Charles Sheffield Lee rogers ....I played Joe Tex......You Better Believe It Baby......more than any other tune of his back then!x Nobody else did.....!x Nostalgic for me...and had it away everytime....happy days!x Gerri Hall was a favourite among 'hard core' whom travelled on the mini bus with me all over the UK each week0end!x 1 guy and still good friend 'Jack'....it is all he waited for allll night each week end!x He always danced to The Snake too....so quite liberal in his approach!x I didn't have a Patience back then......but lov'd dancing to it EVERYTIME!x The only other I spun and got known for as such was 7 Day Fool....and featured it on flyers at me Soul club throughout '96/7! My S/N crew had never heard it.....but it grew on them! Nationally....I had it away for aaaages before other DJ's got onto it as being 'current' as such!x I'll share this too....my mate Pete...a seasoned Producer who has made the new tunes sampling Northern....well....he has heard about 60 of my tunes all told. Recorded for his listening pleasure around 30. He's made tunes up with around 7 of those. Forgive my innocent ignorance about particular tunes 'history' Patto!x I had never heard Mickey Champion until 1993! It was 'different' to stuff i;d heard....made me dance.....sounded RnBish in genre.....and played it 'innocently' as a great tune!x Cards on the Table by The Diplomats drew a similar reaction by some 'oldies' folk around the Nation too! At Nighters....it stooooormed floors whenever I played it! But....it was an acquired taste at Soul Nights I found! Dunno where the tune came from historically....but Kev Fev of Norwich put that on a tape for me 1994.....and had to have one to play.....'naturally'!x Love You Just Can't Walk Away was on the same tape....never heeeard it....and it had the same impact!x Shifty wos in me lug hole trying to influence me with Betty O'brien at the time too.....and then there were others telling me Kell Osbournes Qucksand was Northern....and...and.........it was exciting....!x It will be again!x I have been in another 'bubble' for 15+ years music wise as far as Northern goes! I heard 100 records....'75/6...that was it for 17 years on 4 tapes in me car. No 'R N B' among it really. In 1992 at Keele....I don;'t recall any of the above tunes being played...or for a while. The influx of R N B that I saw came from these young uns....who had more dance energy perhaps?!.....and some 'old school' hard core around the UK such as Big Scotty....Bob Hinsley....Roger Banks.....and I listened to it....and it made me dance. ...Ebay?....smart front....but no differently run as an ethos to any backstreet outfit hitting and running. They know it....i've faced them with it.....and they go 'silent' everytime.....but not at my expense!x About 10 years ago.....I sussed their implicitness in rolling you all!......1/2 million+ have read it.....and u know wot...in 10 years.....Ebay haven't done a thing because there is no one 'big enuff' to 'police' them....so they do as they like.....like Banks....Insurance firms and the like have done!x Welcome to the real world folks!x https://www.matso.tv/ebal.html Since then I started a new account which lasted until 2 months ago. 900+ 100%. I used it to raise money for Charities and the like. All kinds of stuff went through it. I mentioned in here my friends LP's a couple of months back.....Jimmy Hendrix's 'Are You Experienced' among them. He was happy with 'X' as a return to him and the rest went in the Charity pot. I sold that album.....posted it myself. My post office are my friends. They repacked it for me to get it in the cheapest 'price bracket' for posting. So....him and his wife....Postmasters...witnessed the posting. I didn't get proof or owt....I forgot. The buyer was 'on me' within minutes of the auction finishing.....'make sure you pack it right'....this that and the other fussing......all over it he was. Posted the same day. 10 days later......he sez in an e-mail.....'oh hi........just wondering if u've posted the album yet?'. WTF???? Yep I replied. He said he'd give it a couple more days......for arrival in Croydon?! The next thing...next day....I get a 'complaint' arrive from Ebay.....they said they had received a non delivery complaint and until I can prove postage.....they have refunded the purchase price to the buyer....and I owe them it!!!!! So...I did provide 'proof'...as required....or beyond their expectations really....as I did 10 years ago!!! Simply put.....after offering support to the buyer to help him address his loss.....and it being ignored for 3 days....I sent folk to assist him. He spilled his guts. The album had been sold....via another account in France....to a buyer in Denmark........3 days after i'd sent it......for £280....and he'd had his £230 back from....erm...Ebay!!! £500 'profit' for 'working' the system! I don't mind him making £50 for his efforts...but £500?! Surely it's taking the P? It was. He said in his Lithuanian dialect......Since Ebay changed their focus of refunds....ie the burden is on the person posting.....then all you have to do is....wait for a Muppet to send stuff unregistered.....sling Ebay an email of complaint....they give you the refund....and the sellers are left holding the baby!!! He admitted to doing the same about 40 times....in 3 weeks. We obtained the trail of transactions all on Ebay's own websites. I supplied Ebay with the evidence 5 weeks ago. They had 'suspended' my account until I paid them this 'refund' they had given this SCAMMER!!! It came to £230....I refused to pay it and explained/gave evidence as to why. I spoke with some 'Customer Service' Managers in the Philipines......they were hugely understanding. They never called back. So I called again....they said they will take it serious......but again....never called back. Thy did act tho'......after getting the evidence....2 postmasters statements....2 Police Officers findings....and the screen shots of the Foreign sale done with MY record........their response?????...to send a Bailiff in for the £230......!!! COME TO SOOOTY PAAALEEEEASSSSEEE!!!hehe!x The Bailiffs I phoned and told them the script and offered they will be charged £800 for my research and investigation of the matter and I will gladly supply them the evidence. Or...I will supply it for free to a County Court. The Bailiffs bailed out based on the few facts I supplied them. Then Ebay sent a 2nd 2 weeks ago! He called to my registered Ebay address. He was shown other investigations we have on file re Ebay/Paypal etc.......he asked us for a job as he left with qdos and cred ripped to shreds....!x ....all I can say Jimmy is.....yes.....I am....fortunately!x @@ ~ LUV SOOTY X .....there is a body of opinion out there that will suggest I owe Ebay £230.....that I am an irresponsible person and my life will reflect such via the credit system! That's why I don't do 'systems'...........and am free of such opinion!!!!x Currently....Ebay have stopped at me owing them £230....despite the blatant scam i've presented them!!!!x Nobody from Ebay has wanted to talk about this 'loop-hole'!!! Lessons learnt? Ebay are advertising this new approach....guaranteed refund if goods don't arrive! Every Eastern Block or British scammer....is 'on it'. Ebay don't have to be. ENSURE YOU GET PROOF of posting...it's your only get out clause...even if you bring the buying villain to the table by his ear.............be advised!!!x Where does it leave me???? Well.....my bill for activity equalled their refund. I haven't paid it....so Ebay paid me money back and I didn't need their co-operation....simply done. I also got my money back from the buyer......! So....i'm quids in. Ebay.....have paid for their mistake....as they did 10 years ago.,....and will say nowt! Sharks don't bother. For every 1 of me...there is around 999 that will just accept they've been scammed....or are unable to 'investigate' as I have. They know it......and are not interested in 'decent trading'. They don't have to be.....both of the scenarios presented here...over a 10 year span......prove such..........even laughing at us all. I've been with 'moguls' like that. Ebay...has such ilk at a high level....I reckon....it comes from the top such 'attitudes'.....I come through their sewers to expose such......and your all welcome......X GET PROOF....or be open to blatant abuse.....X

I arrived at Northallerton primed with all your comments on current topics such as the latest opinion on tunes out there...and attitudes of promoters....music policy...formats OVO etc lol......and the re-discovery of the scene again lately via Wigan Anniversary's...Telly Docs...and the like and their impact on the scene potentially Nationwide. I present my findings here...for all your perusal and reflection....X From a business perspective....i'd charge £750 for such an appraisal of a firm or 'outfit'/organisation or scene......yours for free.....X ...bu**er....whilst typing i;ve had a call...and got to go for a couple of hours unexpectedly poo!....that's happened a lot the past couple of days! When at Boot Sales Jordirip....I never go through the 70's/80's stuff....toooo much of it! But...this was at the front of a pile as I walked past. The name Keni Burke stuck in me head for some reason....so i bought it for 10p as said! Luvly production indeed and I definately recognised it.....and not from chart or radio....so someone was playing it in the 90;s as I definitely had heard it somewhere! I'm vague on the 70's/modern as 60's is me thing really....and 70's was the funk era for me as far as 'dance' stuff went and my interests!Uptempo stomp gear really! In the 80's I never listened or played owt for 10 years......and I don't think I missed much out there! I always play some 'modern' or 70's in any set.....cos I know they are loved....but....for me.....whilst I enjoy playing them always....they wouldn;t get me up to dance! There's only a few 70's that would make me jump up to be honest.....! I first played it at the 100Club I think Easter time....as I remember getting it as an Easter present for meself! Played it at Winsford/Blackburn but probably only 4 or 5 times all told! I gave it to a lad from Manchester who was a loyal supporter for the 7/8 years I was hacking it....came everywhere and he fell in love with it towards the end of me 90's stint! Instead....I endured real people talking in little groups as 'overlords'...saying to their 'in crowd'...."who the fu** does he think he is....ain't been to Wigan or owt'.....oh.."and he plays sh*t tunes and knows nowt'...'we wos there....he wasn't'....and laughter/ridicule among 'old school' when I moved to re-open St Ives suggesting their sad singular approach was what the people wanted! Folk like me...Len...Shifty....and loads of 'unknowns' who weren't wanted to be known by those out there either......rallied these folk through their dedication...music and passion....rebelled by doing our own thing........and took that potential and excitement Nationwide. I saw them do it...I wos there. Upon reflection and with hindsight....it appears many have lived off that wave to date. Chris King and Ian Levine say that exactly 10 years ago....they came back on that wave. It seems the tides been out for a while again. Just as these folk 'mothered' it from Wiigan ending to the early 90's....perhaps some have become entrenched over the past 20 years again. Stagnation...leads to procrastination and poo. Well...wake up.....A Tsunami has just happened. Deal with it.......7,200 speaks louder than any individuals opinion I have to say. There is a demand for this scene and music. Those with the genuine interest in the scene will embrace them and 'share' your interests...both old...and new. It can be done with a smile....10/15 venues had that about them when I visited them in the 90's. I unified that potential...and we got together the best supported/luv'd A/N the scene had seen since St Ives in the 70's! It's there to do again....NATIONALLY.
