  8. Chubby Checker ~ You just don't know UK issue & You don't know UK demo.

For me the best Culcheth yet. It will be hard to top. Musically the Dj line up worked well, the dancefloor was busy all night.Great set by Simon kicking off with my request for Vigon a first time play at Culcheth and him being delighted how well it went down with the dancers, Mick followed Carl & Maria with tune after tune aimed fairly and squarely at the dancefloor, and Kev finishing the evening off with some of his classic mega rarity's. Carl & Maria was the icing on top of the cake.their music was top notch,I hope you can get them back on some time soon, the decks worked better dancefloor level, I felt more involved, the sound sounded great, there was no excuse to have the volume too loud, you couldn't have put us any closer to the speakers,I loved it in fact I'm still buzzing. The banner looked great as well. Congratulations all round for a belter of a night. I caught some of Ged Lunts set in the modern room and his taste is right up my street. perfect modern soul. This is the first time I've felt the need to leave a review but the night was that good.
  9. Here's another taster of what you can expect from the across the board soulful experience of the main room. This one from Jimmy Armstrong is of the rare 60's northern variety.
  10. Yes what a brilliant twofer, I love both sides. Great label as well.
  11. I know you're spoilt for choice but If you think you can fit it in without having to dump your Celebrities or Dennis Edwards or Walter & the Admirations then yes it's an official request. How come your text is always bigger than mine.
  12. Simon, Have you played Vigon out yet, I love it. For me it's the best version.
  13. This one from Sharon Jones featured in quite a few of my sets on Simons wonderful BVAN show during lockdown, Should be popular for the dancers in the main room. Don't leave the dancefloor till the trumpet fades. Brilliant
  14. I'll play Tommy Turner for Moe my better half who took early retirement earlier on this year. not Tommy T's Lady. but Lazy (b'stard) I'll get my coat.
  15. This is another one of those brilliant records that I first heard at the Mecca and I've stupidly sold on in the last 12 months. I keep telling myself you can't keep them all. Only Baz & Robbo can do that. lol
  16. TOP TUNE with a capital T
  17. Just found this lurking at the back of the shelves and it's one I purchased off Steve"Interesting"Davis a few years ago. Expansions Dean Johnson would have described this as bouncy castle or a happy modern/northern dancer. I've always loved Deans description Bouncy castle I'm not 100% certain where this tune turned up from, in fact I don't think anybody does. It just appeared like magic. What I do know is 2 main dealers fell out over it. I think I'll take it with me on Saturday.

  19. Ken, It's not in my box or I'd give it a spin for you. Not sure if anyone else has it. Great record.
  20. Yes Mick absolutely, so many not rare enough records appeared on soul bowls front page. Where's Stewies (Family Guy) time machine when you need it. lol
  21. Yes get in, my Soul Source is back on after nearly a week in the wilderness. it's been crazy not knowing what the hell's going on. Okay here's one for the next instalment at Culcheth next Saturday. Apparently this was played at Wigan but I don't remember it from there. it must have been played after I'd stopped going, I can definitely see it going down a storm there, I wonder if it was covered up? Mick.
  22. Jordan, is there any chance of that brilliant Shirley J Scott? track ever making it to MD Records. Phil Dick has the master tape,MD has the technology. It's definitely worth pursuing. B
  23. Ain't it funny how some records bring back vivid memories of when you first had the pleasure of hearing them. For me one of Ian Levine's best ever discoveries is Steve Karmen's "Breakaway" and one of the best ever cover up names "Black ships to hell". Shortly after he played it at the Mecca I was at a midweek soul night somewhere in Leigh run by local Leigh legends Walt & Chaddy when they played "Black ships to hell"through the mic from a tape they'd recorded at the Mecca, I think they may have even left Levine introducing it, how good is that. Ian played the instrumental side then but here's the wonderful part 1 vocal side featuring Jimmy Radcliffe. Just imagine hearing this for the very first time now.
  24. I was under the impression that Wayne Hemmingway of Red or Dead fame was in charge of the Northern Soul section but I could be wrong
