  1. Eddiefoster posted a soul guide event in Soul Nights

The Ashton Ukrainian club has gone from strength to strength following the re-launch in 2021 and a move to Saturday night. For 2024 we're looking to continue delivery quality rare and underplayed soul from the residents and ever growing list of outstanding guests. Speaking of ‘Rare & Underplayed Soul’ we use that phrase to capture what Ashton tries to deliver musically, which is worth expanding upon. Mainly it's an attempt to move away from the standard music policy strap lines we’re all so used to seeing like; Northern, 60s & 70s, Crossover, Modern, across the board etc. etc. whilst genuinely trying to capture an ethos. The words ‘rare’ and ‘underplayed’ are intended to apply both in their own right and together, it certainly isn't supposed to be limited rare records that are also underplayed……we should have added quality in there too LOL. In a nutshell you will hear all three combinations of the phrase on any given night at the Ukrainian Club; ‘Rare’ (but not for rarities sake) ‘Underplayed’ (but not because they’re not good enough) and of course ‘Rare & Underplayed’ but, all with one eye on the dancefloor. We don’t have a music ‘policy’, all our residents & guests are free to express themselves as they wish, which we believe adds to the magic. So simply expect a great night of quality soul music if you ever get the chance to join us at our friendly little club.
  2. What can I say?? If you never made it to Grumpys you're missing out, If you missed out on the night Andy Rix guested you really missed out and if you missed the last Grumpy 'Takeover' at Culcheth now's the chance to put it right.....you won't be disappointed unless you expect club classics and top 500 all night (which is fine if that's what does it for you BTW). My humble opinion of course! The new Culcheth venue is made for this event great setup, great crowd, great atmosphere - I for one am looking forwards this next instalment immensely, with a line up that will undoubtably deliver quality rare soul as always.

Culcheth delivers! We arrived just before 8pm and secured a valuable parking slot before the inrush - I wish I had a time lapse camera set up to show just how quickly the place filled up......blink and you missed it!!! As already muted here it was a fantastic night with both room bouncing (apologies to the guys in the modern room, I didn't get much time to spend in there - too busy listening to the amazing selections in the main room to avoid repeat plays). Musically a great mix of rare soul with - appropriately I'd say, an emphasis from the DJs on the sounds they played or recalled from the halcyon days at Lowton with a good smattering of current biggies and dancefloor favorites.... To sum it up - great to see Culcheth banging as it deserves to be - if you haven't manage to get there yet you're missing a quality night in the soul calendar, great music, great venue and a wonderful crowd
  3. Soul heaven staple food for Robbo ✨
  4. Only one sleep to go til party time
  5. I recall this absolutely ramming the floor at Lowton as it did everywhere back in the day - of course it suffered from over-exposure as many great tracks do!! but perhaps a revival on Saturday would be welcomed
  6. Exciting weekend coming up - Lowton was such an amazing event back in the 90s and it's hard to believe now that a Friday night soul event could have been such a smash with massive attendance, I'm not sure what the average numbers were but Kev could fill us in I'm sure (note to self to ask him this weekend!) It was an honour to DJ for the Lowton team right through til the end and I'm flipping through the playbox to remind myself of the fantastic choons that hit the decks (yes my box was rather influenced by Lowton) Here's one:
  7. Hi - sounds interesting, don't have a Patty Stokes here sorry about that...any other wants? Cheers Simon
  8. Issue or Demo - not fussy PM me please if you have a spare or one sat collecting dust
  9. Is that a "WEE" pun Chalky LOL As Lord Maleedy says - you'll smash it pal 🎶
  10. 😆
  11. Looking forwards to this immensely - honoured to be asked to DJ at what will be my first ever weekender! well the first I will have stayed at for the duration anyway. See you all there for the fun Now where did I put my playbox!
  12. .

Oh what a night...............ladies night 🎵🎶 The girls did good - not a surprise to me but a treat for the Ashton faithful none-the-less Phil kicked the night off with his usual eclectic selections followed by Luci Jones' set which prompted lots of positive feedback and quite rightly (despite the sound system gremlins). Joan Livesey was on fire lighting up the room as always...and then of course followed the triumphant return of Roger Banks to the old stomping ground in fine style..... Chris Churm rounded off a fantastic night and an incredible, enjoyable 2023 - so a GREAT BIG THANKS to all of you who have supported our little club this year it is so much appreciated
  13. I was on first 😂
  14. Counting down towards this evening's festive instalment at Culcheth where it's always been a musical treat but gathering even more traction following the move to the excellent new venue.... Digging around the boxes in readiness right now See you all there
