  1. Motown must be the kings of the multiple versions, it is estimated each motown record has about ten versions. The funk brothers would cut the backing track then various artists would take it in turns to cut the vocal. The best version would become a single, the other would become either album tracks or trashed. the trashed ones are now some of the motown unreleased jems getting spins. Example..Spinners truly yours, Eric and the Vikings I'm truly yours and temptations truly yours Westy

Kenny Burrell s got the original watch but wears that one when he goes out, keeps the real one in his pocket to show people but wont wear it
  4. Just had two records from two different dealers, one was six dollars and one eight. With the exchange rate as it is at the moment, cant really complain as some dealers in this country charge £2.50 for one record that costs 60pence to post. Westy

  9. Speaking of Grimsby, Me and my mates from Scunthorpe used to go to the hawaiian high club just of cleethorpes road in about 1975, and then I did a few spots DJing at Grimsby gassworks social club if anyone can remember that...
  10. I know of a few mates who like myself rejoined the scene about five years ago, on dragging their record box out of the loft they found for example the Tobi Legend they paid three quid for from soul bowl now goes for three hundred, and the Mel Britt pressing that was a quid is now in double figures, the temptation to sell for a mega profit then becomes great. add to that the collection of twenty plus otis redding singles no one wants anymore thats just sitting there and the amount of vinyl starts building up. Plus I know from personal experience dealers in the U.S. all seem to have Manships book at hand, i have had many dealings with these people who think everything they have is rare and Northern, which is one of the reasons records get catagorized as northern when they deffinatly aint. 11. what the hell am i on about !!! its the Tops not the Temps !!! Heads gone again Westy
  12. My mate and I run a Motown and Northern night in Goole, basically anything goes whatever gets them on the dancefloor from Northern Motown to the commercial stuff HOWEVER When I have DJ'd at more Northern venues I still introduce the spot as something like "got some Motown for ya" type of thing, but play all Northern,eg. bobby Taylor Oh Ive been bless'd and other not motown but in that vein like Buster Jones "misunderstanding" etc. also seventies stuff, Bloodstone and the like, So as I get bookings as a Northern Motown DJ what can I call it except motown. P.S. I come cheap....LOL WESTY
  13. a strange topic this, if you think about it, what I mean is, L.P. only tracks, do you / we mean worldwide or U.S. and U.K cos take as an example the temps. "is there anything that I can do". Its on a U.K. album, but no u.k. or u.s. 45 release, but is on a french 45rpm demo and french E.P. so where do you draw the line, anyone got a Brazil motown listing LOL. WESTY
