Cultural History
I think i get the tone of your thread Jam66, and have some empathy with it in general. But...there's 360 million people in North America and many of them are in-tune with their ( and our NS /R&B/Soul) music history and culture. It's "like us" though, how many out of the total population of the UK ( is 54 million?) 'get it'?

- payola -a business expense!
Most know of the Payola scandals. But deducting Payola from income taxes as a business expense is a new one on me. -Feb 2nd 1967.- JIMMY WISNER R I P
That is sad news...and an unhappy coincidence that i had just posted Northern Connections 13 in February which linked him into the story. One of the finest prod ucers/arrangers. RIP the "Wiz"- all reduced
- If I was granted one vinyl wish...
Willie Wade -"Come Into My World". Not outlandishly expensive...- John Abbey
I wonder if there are any more out there?- John Abbey
You might be mistaken about Kokomo. That was Jimmy "Wiz" Wisner's assumed name as an artist. We all know he was a great arranger/producer, but he released some material as a vocalist 'Asia Minor', etc.- Film/TV stars that also became NS related artists
Thread promted by the resurgent post “Celebs who are OR Have been into Northern Soul” Perhaps done before...but how about Film/TV stars that also became NS related artists without knowing! Just two to start... Nichelle Nichols - It's Been On My Mind Connie Stevens - Tick Tock- Pat Lewis.
One of the Holidays was married to one of The Adorables. be warned though...i’m Having a bit of a mid- information day today. So check it.- Record World US Mag Online Archive
I'm pretty sure David and you Kegsy are correct. Firstly-i've listened again to the Standout side all the way through. It's likely they are the girls with the guitars. Secondly, i have probably remembered and re-read some stuff i was doing on The Debonaires, plus The Debanaires (backing vocals on Spencer Stirling's Audrey sides). -and stuff i was doing on The Adorables- and remembered (wrongly) a thread (most likely on SD Forum) which had the Debutantes tied into it. Glad to be corrected.- Record World US Mag Online Archive
Strong Foundation on Standout 601 doesn't sound ( to me that is) like a white female garage group- Record World US Mag Online Archive
i wasn't thinking of those Debtantes David, but i could have got my faded notes and memories wrong. i think...(sorry i can't be more precise) The Debutants -without an "e" in their name, was possibly an aggregation of some members of The Dobonaires/The Adorables.- Record World US Mag Online Archive
I'm going back quite a few years now...so from memory and scruffy notes ....this may not be quite right-but it should start you off if you need to find out more. joyce wilson (joyce vincent) was one of the Debutantes( 3 females.) maybe even Dorothy Garland? they were on (i think) Standout?- Northern Soul Connections #13 - Sherry & Inverts Neighbourhood

- Twisted Wheel - Sounds ?
the club also owned many records itself (until they went...let's say missing)- Twisted Wheel - Sounds ?
I make no comment about the record itself. But 'On Topic' sounds....then- Twisted Wheel - Sounds ?
I wonder if what we are missing when we think back is...the wheel, Mecca, Casino, etc, went through at least two (more in some cases, M’s, etc) play/ music/ attendee transitions as they grew. That being the case, I for one often find myself now loving something I hated back then - and vice versa. or is that just rose tinted glasses?- Twisted Wheel - Sounds ?
so the OP -but what are the top sounds that maybe haven't had much play or re-release over the years. Well for this... i'm not sure "top sounds" would be a definition for some...but me -hell yeah.
