Yes Steve, Rebels was earlier (and great niters despite dodgy system) but seem to remember new 60's also played). Do you remember a one off Niter at "Happy Nites" Sheffield? That may have been before Shef Tiffs. 100% Modern - remember Sam heavily playing Chuck Simmons "Am I Grooving You".

The lads must be getting confused...definately never sold my King Tutt! Brains addled - too many years following the Mighty Blues :-)

Hey Gavin - less of the old - though I'm feeling it with the new arrival!! Yeah - for a crystal ball and all that...It's all unbelievable really. I've still got the vast majority of my collection - but find it hard to justify holding on to stuff when it gets to 3 figures (mind you still got King Tutt and Family of Eve) as theres always so much new stuff I want. You'ld think we'ld grow out of this but my interest in all things soulful is as strong as ever. Eugene Smiley is one of the best Modern Northern Stompers ever!

Soul Frank was definately from Southampton - he used to travel on his own to Sam and Arthur's do's circa '81. Think he used to be ex-Yate as well. He used to like his soul and his dancing. Steve G will remember him.

John, this sounds daft but i can't honestly remember. Thats why I did'nt mention it in my post. Part of me thinks me and Ady connolly did it, another part of me thinks me and Adam did it - but I really dunno! I had started doing a few bits by this time. Can remember other things about the All Niter so probably not. Seem to remember Richard (or Pat) had been playing a white test press of James Walsh as "Gypsy" "Cos Its You girl" for some time (no other info on label) and we were able to tell him the proper artist detail.

Cheers for that Chalky - I'll mail you off list soon! picked up your PM on Ems too. Mr Nightingale - less of the abuse I'm a SS virgin! Gavin - ssshhhhh re price of MDB. Personally I much prefer the flip "Let Me Down Easy". Great memories of Arthur playing this in '81. Dave Thorley did play "SIFMB" at Stafford I recall (does that put a few more pound notes on value?!) He used to also say MDB had been banged up for doing a bank robbery. Any one ever substantiate that! Would never have dreamt of selling it but with the price at this level it would have to be done! Anyone with serious offers please get in touch! Wish I still had Target now :-((((

Yeah, heard this very sad news earlier in the week. Many happy memories of Ozzy. Always remember he stayed over in Loughborough after one heavy weekend - on the Monday night I took him over to Richard Broughton's flat in Nottingham to peruse Poke's collection that he was selling for him. Sunday night had always been the end to the messyness for me..but Oz talked me into staying up Monday night too...I was elated after picking up Charisma Band for £5 and original Hugh Boynton amongst others. We got back to the flat...and Oz promptly fell asleep! Always remember Tomo/Moll/Oz and Chris Ashby in the "crazy" car zooming around the country. Happy Days.

Steve, I was at this one with a lot of the regulars from Loughborough/Derby. I remember Richard and Dave Thorley being on in particular. Also think Adam may have been on. Possibly Pat Brady too. I've actually got a couple of photos from this do somewhere. It was'nt the first 100%Modern Soul All Niter though. That was probably at Rotherham Tiffs or Sheffield Tiffs - both rooms circa '80/'81 with Sam,Arthur,Mario. Though 100% Modern All Dayers previous to these at Snaith (well heading towards 100 %) and Birmingham Locarno. I also remember Soul Frank well!
