Ian Levine, Motorcity, Centre City, Blackpool Mecca, And Swons
Actually, Gene, that was you and me, not Geoff. Remember we ate breakfast with him at a diner and then sat in the back seat of his Cadillac while he sang his songs. I still have his business card "Fred and Sons Plumbing". Your scooter friend had a very cool early 1960's Lincoln with suicide doors that he was selling. And I remember him trying to think of Freddie's name. He said "some guy who recorded at Motown" was a regular customer of his. Butler something. And we went through the list... Billy? Jerry? Freddie? Yep, that's him...

I think Dave would be surprised to learn that he wasnt living in New Jersey anymore (about 20 minutes from me). He's actually DJing with Mr Fine Wine tonight at Botanica in New York City.

I thought I was the one who provided the contact info for Mel Britt to Tim Ashibende, and you got it from him. And was Adi the same guy who filmed Robert Banks in NJ? I felt very fortunate to be able to sit in on that little session.

Post Stafford Classics
I sold this in the mid 90s to Soul Sam. I thought it was unknown at the time, but after the deal, Butch told me he had one. Not sure who he sold it to. Interesting that this is getting mentioned within a few posts of the New Sounds LP on Turbo, as it's the exact same band and singers.

Must learn to lurk more invisbly... What about Leon Peterson on Skylark "Now you're on your own". The copy I found in 1992 made its way into Roger Banks' hands and I heard it everytime I was in the UK. Personally, I thought it was horrible (which is why I got rid of it), but I think it was a pretty big sound for Roger. I'm sure he had it covered up as something or other.

Need Two Prices Please - Astors & Soul Shakers
I think the common name between the two would be "Smith". Hardly convincing evidence, particularly when you realize that Len Jewel Smith and Huey Piano Smith have completely different first and middle names. Unless of course you mean that Smith is a common name, which it most certainly is, even in this culturally diverse country we live in. I bet there are even one or two in the Chicago phone book.

The Guides
What exactly is the difference between the original and the bootleg of Gwen & Ray? If I'm not mistaken, they're practically identical. I believe I have an original, but only because it looked identical to another collector's copy which he also believed to be an original. But I saw a copy for sale in the UK in a dealer's bootleg box and it looked identical also, so still none the wiser about it.

Chuck Wood Seven Days Too Long
Had a chat with Johnny Northern last night. He doesn't think JR Bailey ever used the name Chuck Wood. He thought he only went under variations of his own name - Jimmy Bailey, JR Bailey, Ralph Bailey.

Chuck Wood Seven Days Too Long
One of his songwriting partners, Johnny Northern, is usually hanging out with his friends at 50th and Broadway in NY when I'm on my way home from work every night. Next time I see him, I'll ask him. He has a pretty good memory for things like this.

Wanted;
What's a good price for this now? Remember a sweet soul collector over here paid $700 or $800 several years ago for it.

Wand Records
But did any of your additions come from my site (solidhitsoul.com), which also originated with the Randy Cozens discog that you yourself sent to me all those years ago? I recently acquired a very nice copy of the Ivories release, but have still not seen a Just Brothers, Earl Harrison, Honey Bees, or Walter Wilson

2nd July John Manship Auction Prices
I sold 2 copies of the El Count Executives for over $1,000 each. It's a very rare sweet soul record. But I dont think John's auction is really the venue that people go to find those kinds of records, so I'm not surprised it didnt sell for a lot. I'm sure if more US collectors knew there was a chance of winning such a record at a bargain price (relatively speaking), they'd pay more attention to his site, though and prices for those items might go up in the future. Not sure if it was John's own record or a consigment, but if I were the consignor, I'd be very disappointed in the sale price.

Picture Of The Trends
You're right. Knew there was some connection with the Ivories, just forgot what it was. Was a long time ago that I spoke with him. And yes, he was in Georgia when I talked to him.
