  1. Ooooh, sorry to hear that.
  2. Ah, but do the DJs still have them? Might they now be all in the hands of collectors, who don't all necessarily DJ?
  3. Well? Somebody's gotta have a copy for sale? Oh, must be in excellent shape.
  4. No wet dreams I hope.
  5. If you mean by accident, all the time mate!!! Especially with me working away from home a lot, I can't always remember what I've got. Eg fairly recently, American Youth Choir UK Polydor, Betty Everett, I've Got A Claim On You, UK Sue, 3 copies . . . seriously. Think one might be a Demo? If by design then again, yes. For instance, Scott Bros - Stolen Angel - on Ribbon issue and Demo, local label called Dorset, and on the Canadian label Castle. Also came out on Cameo (or Parkway) but it's a different / inferior cut. Other occasions are when I get issues and Demos. Can never decide which one to keep? Eg Patrice Holloway, UK Capitol, Break Out, Mitch Ryder, Stateside, (as well as on Soul Sounds too). So, I keep both, especially if they're both in the same condition. It's a curse.
  6. Forgive my ignorance but where was this Tommy Bush played originally? Stafford I'll bet? Went to the first two with my pal Frank Jackson but I emigrated to Canada thereafter so, unfortunately for me, Stafford is a complete mystery to me, other than the memory of that huge pile of Okeh issues and Demos at between 50p and £2 each that me and Frank bought from a guy literally out of his brown leather suitcase the second night we attended.
  7. Issue or Demo, not particular. Anybody?
  8. Now Tower of Power I really like myself, even though it extends into a release year period on the limit of my record collecting period. The first two I've never even seen before. Take it the first one is a UK release and the Jaedes is Australian? That one looks really good. Love to hear it as well. Soundbyte? IT'S OKAY, I'VE FOUND ONE. NOWT ON THE LOLEATTA HOLLOWAY THOUGH. Sounds / looks like we could discuss this stuff for hours and days and weeks. But whose got time these days? Whereabouts do you live Sean? Where do you venture out? Any others?
  9. Hey Sean, take it you're a keen UK collector with a fair sprinkling of UK label obscurities? For those who might be interested, could you list a few of these by way of an example? It would be of great interest to me if nobody else.

Nah, I've been awah heem since January but I'm looking to get back over there ASAP. As we speak in fact. Saw Steve at Lowton last month. I had to admit to remembering his face but not his name and from whence he came. Embarrased, so I was. But, he was very gracious about it, as always. I asked Steve to pass on my regards to you and everybody else in aberdeen that I know. PM me your email address again. Oh, God forbid, you never know, you might see me up in Aberdeen again, if my attempt to return to Norway falls flat on it's face. Has Jim still got his shop / club open / running? I'll see if I can get my mate to send a scan of his acetate for you.

Is that Tubbs from Aberdeen? Sounds nothing like the King acetate a friend of mine's got. His is more officious looking, with properly printed test pressing type labels with typwriter typed text explaining title and artist, etc. Hope this helps, although I'm certain there are all kinds of different styles to King acetates. My description is just one of them I'll bet.

Sorry, no I didn't read the posting by John May, or if I did, I don't remember reading about the maroon label designs being west coast. But thanks for the update. Having said that, my maroon label design is slightly different to that one shown on Dave Flemming's posting. But I mentioned that already didn't I? It's this damned cold, can't think straight.

Thanks. Found the label scans off Dave Flemming of particular interest. The maroon scan I posted is different again to those he has posted. Strange? That last one of his on yellow Carla from 1973 looks contrived. Have a close look at the letters making up the word Carla. Looks like a cut and paste jobbie.

This is going to be fun. I've never tried posting image attachments to my postings before and I've just used a host site to make my photographs a suitable size for posting on this site. So, here goes. https://img525.imageshack.us/img525/6140/cimg4917dx0.jpg https://img516.imageshack.us/img516/8760/cimg4915rp4.jpg Sorry for the quality of the images, that's me and my shakey hands whilst taking the snapshots. Anyhow, can somebody please explain to me why the different label designs?

No, you ain't talking crap, I was thinking the exact same thing myself. But then people reckon I talk crap all the time. I think it's only 95% of the time. :o) But, Dave's idea ain't a bad one either.

Woolybakc??? Oh, you mean Woolyback Nah, I'm from Liverpool, I just live in St.Helens. But yes, and proud of it BTW, do you know the true story behind the expression Woolyback?

Soul Cafe, Bold Street, Liverpool. There you go, that's the one, saves me posting a link. If you want the exact location of Detroits in St.Helens, my adopted home town, my wife hails from St.Helens you see, then simply go to www.yell.com and type in Detroits and St.Helens, Merseyside, and it will reveal that it is on Barrow Street. Easy peasy. See, all good ideas originate and are sustainable in the NORTH of England

"..........location is all important so London or Manchester somewhere like that" What about Liverpool, where there has been the Soul Cafe on Bold Street for years!!! Opened by a fairly wealthy guy with an interest in Soul music whilst attempting to start his own independent Radio Station playing Soul and R&B at the same time. I admit, it doesn't just cater for the minority ie just Soul music lovers but for everybody. Perhaps that's why it's lasted so long, apart from selling a damned good cup of coffee. Best thing is, there's a great Record shop just a few yards away too, and a great Real Ale pub around the corner, also just a few yards away. What more could you ask for? Once again, Liverpool lead the way but NEVER gets the recognition it deserves!!!
