  1. Shouldn’t this be posted for Saturday 14th, Dave?
  2. Magpie69 commented on Joe Mod's event in Alldayers

When this venue was the Plug, the floor could not be classed as dancer-friendly. Has it improved enough for a soul event?
  3. Cheryl, I think we can both agree to differ on our preferences. I suppose we have to try different venues and continue to attend those that suit us and avoid those that don’t. What I would say is that the Grosvenor has always had an “up-tempo” reputation and for many people that is what gives it the atmosphere it generates (with one or two hiccups as noted earlier). Please continue to use Soul Source for information and keep on dancing. That’s what it’s all about. P.S. I would recommend you give any “Eggborough” nights at Drax a miss - you would hate it!
  4. There are dozens of venues in the area around the Grosvenor playing more across the board material if that’s what you like. There are increasingly few venues for what I call ‘proper’ NS dancers and Grosvenor is one. I’m not a dancer myself but love to watch dancers burning up the floor to up-tempo stuff (as was the case on Saturday). I was at the night that provoked this thread and it was as flat as I’ve known it there. I don’t go to watch people ‘two stepping’ to mid-tempo tunes. Plenty of other places to do that if that’s what floats your boat. stick to your USP Grosvenor
  5. Not attending any more Goldsoul events at Sheffield City Hall for the same reasons as above.
  6. Oh well, if we have to go to all-nighters to experience the real thing we are stuffed - at 66 years old we need our kip!
  7. Having been to “the parody that is Shirebrook” and quite enjoyed it, could the experts please give me (as a non-soulie who only goes because the wife is a dancer) an idea of which venues are seen as the real deal and acceptable? Heaven forbid that we are going to be seen as uncool interlopers.
  8. Got your dates mixed up, Kev?
  9. Ray Slater was a big pal of Kath's first husband, Roger Jackson. Lived on East Bawtry Road. Apparently a lovely guy.
  10. The ones the wife remembers were the McDonaghs, especially Bunny, and Chris McClair, who were St Bernard's boys. Incidentally, the wife's name then was Kath Dudley, later Kath Jackson and she went to Kimberworth school and later Thomas Rotherham.
  11. The wife always reminisces about her nights at the Charade club which was at Stag roundabout. This was in its early days in the late sixties/early seventies when Mick Bradford managed it and Dave Grownds was a DJ. She often wonders what happened to all the other regulars. Having got back into the northern scene in the last couple of years, she’s surprised she hasn’t bumped into her contemporaries. Any old Charaders out there?
  12. Thanks for the replies. May have to offer the wife's playlist on her phone to some obliging bar owner. Bill
  13. Anyone know if there is a soul scene in Krakow, Poland? Off there next week and would check out any activity. Thanks
