O.v.o And C.r.&.p Venues
With respect that is what makes the whole of this thread pointless. the Wand issue is NOT the original. I wonder which one T. Brown has in his collection. Just because a company with clout picks up a tune does not make it the original. In my opinion this legitamizes the playing of re-issues as I suspect after looking at J.Manships 'Rarest of the Rare that many a treasured 'Original' is in fact a re-issue, but maybe just maybe we don't want to acknowledge that. Oh my I'm becoming an anorak. Chris

O.v.o And C.r.&.p Venues
But isn't this thread about OV, and does the copy of the Ivory's on Wand constitute a re=issue. Seems to me you can't have it both ways, it's either the original or not.

O.v.o And C.r.&.p Venues
Yes I have and Iv'e not read all 54 pages so here goes. Do you mean OVO as the OVO on the LOCAL LABELS or OVO being the ones realeased by the larger companies that picked them up later? As I said haven't read all pages so if it's been said earlier then Yes we are all done. Chris

O.v.o And C.r.&.p Venues
Apologies for my ignorance, I trust you'll apologise for your stupid remarks? Non the less rare or not it is still a pop tune and bieng white as absolutely nothing to do with it, there are plenty of blue eyed soul tunes around as i'm sure you are aware, . the tune was released for the pop market as were most of them the idea to make a bit of cash. the fact that it was latched on by the N/scene doesn't change that and it's subsequent success in the charts proves it. Now I'll get my coat, cause I'm of topic.

The only MFP album which had a rare Northern track on it was the R.Dean Taylor album with "There's A Ghost In My House" I'm sorrry to be of thread but when was this tune ever rare, back on thread I would say that this track is OVO Ordinary Very Ordinary. Chris

Insulting Lyrics
Ok so we have had your best, favourite, most memorable and 'which tunes got you into northern' threads, now how about a Most Insulting Lyrics Thread. My first pick would be Marvin Gaye Sweet Thing, The subject of the song is not good looking, doesn't do what he asks etc, real gender attack, mind you she's still a sweet thing.

Current Value Please
Accept the fact that you like it, but how does an instrumental ooze soul, even N/s. This for me, and Iv'e been on the S/scene since 69, is utter drivel and I wouldn't give it a passing glance and who in their right mind would pay £200 for it, Sorry just my opinion. Chris

O.v.o And C.r.&.p Venues
Stick around, I don't think so, thats the last thing these folks will do, I suspect that it is more a case of 'in it for the money' play what you like on the format you like, keep it to what you know, as somebody said about Benidorm, and keep the punters happy with playing what they know from the 2 months worth of trips to Wigan back in the 70ts, if they ever went, besides who wants to fork out £20.00 on a record when you can get the same downloaded of the internet for nowt. For me the whole essence of the N/S scene was to discover new and rare soul music. For some the ss is no more than what joe public does each day in listening to the oldies radio stations and just as boring. Besides there are plenty of slow N/S tracks that we dance to that were big on the scene back in the day, don't see em walking out on those. Chris

Too Many Events; A New Slant On An Old Topic, Are The Paying Public Asking For Them? Part 2
Thanks for the `frecking` good piece of advice (Whatever that means) I do have a life and a pretty good one at that...And what exactly has Gordon Brown got to do with it...Do you seriously think he is in any position to be making any decisions about anything? Can`t see any evidence of anything he`s done lately that warrants any positive sort of comment by anyone ; I did think that the first part of your post was pretty good and made some sense but you obviously couldn`t keep it up to the very end of the post without resorting to the most ridiculous and childish comment `Grow up and get a life` is that the best you can do? Honestly if you want to get personal try a bit harder next time. Sharon I wasn`t going to post up on this thread again as I considered it closed and enough salient points had been made. I still stand by that as your point to me offered nothing new and was just blatantly ignorant.

Too Many Events; A New Slant On An Old Topic, Are The Paying Public Asking For Them? Part 2
I`ve thought about it and I reckon you`re right. The said promoters by the way are spreading their brand of soul night around so I`ve just heard and so will who knows who they will clash with on other Saturdays locally...Lets wait and see!

Too Many Events; A New Slant On An Old Topic, Are The Paying Public Asking For Them? Part 2
Hi, Whilst I agree with your sentiment (Although I can`t see where I`ve said anything here about our venue being good) in regard to the social and musical element being the pre eminent factor, there is a matter of principle which I for one have some difficulty getting over. The geographical spread is nationwide (I didn`t count the venues outside the UK, I don`t think) and I do agree with your statement about this politics issue in the East Midlands; However I think the use of the word `politics` in relation to this area is too generous as I do think there is an element of undermining, maliciousness and downright petty jealousy involved with some. I do agree also that they will fall by the wayside eventually; I`m not worried Chalky, jut voicing my very peeved opinion for what its worth. TonyP`s comment when he says that while ever the majority say; it doesn't matter what form the tunes are on, so long as I can dance" that every man and his dog will start up a soul night is spot on unfortunately. Too Many Events; A New Slant On An Old Topic, Are The Paying Public Asking For Them? Part 2
For those that were interested in the original thread here is something new which has recently been bought to our attention!: Yet another new event on the same night as an established one (Namely ours; 6 years on) which means that there are now 2 new events starting up this month and next. Next months is approx 6 miles away and the one this month is 3 miles away. This time the rationale is this: "now i am looking into having 1 every week , the people i have spoken to go to different 1's everyweek which means alot of traveling which they don't want...so i am tryin to change that" (Direct quote from the promoter) Any thoughts on the viability of putting on a weekly event (£5 OTD sandwiches provided apparently!)? I can honestly say that the soul scene of a few years ago is now well and truly dead and gone and is in complete freefall as far as I can see. The whole situation is quite pathetic: 37 on one night at the last count - I reckon thats a record!

New Youngblood Dj On The Scene
Our youngest son, Joel DJ`d d and had his own records (although I paid for most of them!) He DJ`d around and won deserved praise, (yep, I'm biased) but Yocky & Sam Evans & Andy Baskett all encouraged him, as did others. He was a great dancer (still is) and won the dance comp at Skeggy 05. (15). At 17 he found a girl, modern clothes and night clubs. Still dances to the tunes in the dining room but sadly (apart from occasionally) doesn't do soul nights. Time marches on. Chris

Is It True?
Yep it seems it is privately owned, and he apparently has a few financial problems, so what can one do? nowt I guess, shame too because the night was just begining to take off. chris
