I always use hand luggage for more expensive items the rest I pack well and slip them in my main luggage . I do Austen Record Convention when i can and always find varied stuff ( you won’t get the vast numbers we used to ) but you can still get quality . Last visit before COVID hand luggage searched but no problems with 45s in fact a jovial conversation about vinyl ? Plenty of untapped places also unless you have visited every store vintage and vinyl along with every flea market in the USA 🇺🇸. It’s a big old place .

Collectors amd DJs are two different animals . Collectors of soul music go back right to the mid sixties and the obsession with all things British . Some of these collections are eminently more interesting that a couple of hot boxes and some DJ who buys purely to fill a dance floor at some over rated soul night ? Another factor is that a tiny percentage of people in the UK 🇬🇧 have amassed large interesting collections because their have kept the passion going in the lean times ie the eighties and hence got a vast proportion of records at bargain price both here and in the USA . Back in the eighties Detroit was the fascination for lots of us as tastes change so does market trends but the distinction that earmarks a collector from a DJ must of the time is the obsession to own the record either to fill a run on the label or just for pure enjoyment . Good analysis Phil , the lack of knowledge surely is a major factor and perhaps a new demographic, in all honesty it’s a small collecting network in the UK 🇬🇧 and everyone knows everyone , buys off each other through social media etc . I do not know who would pay these prices that’s the mystery ?

Surely the market will readjust ? That price for the Falcons is simply gobsmacking . It has never been particularly rare in fact it was regularly on lists right up to 5 years ago? Always £300 always sold at that price ! It’s a regular thing to be surprised at some of the auction prices, it ain’t just Johns however Tim Brown and Pat Brady’s fetch a good 40 to 50 percent over what is mere mortals in the Uk would ever contemplate for some items . It’s the new breed of armchair bidder leveraged up to the hilt wearing the emperors new cloths etc . It’s 2021 every item has a value but it seems like two different worlds are bidding on them now ?
