  1. 909: You little Devil - Phil Flowers Awesome grinding Northern R'n'B. £40 on my site! Recommended.
  2. Last year I found a copy of Wilson Pickett on Verve...in Tokyo...with 'Andy Rix' scratched into the deadwax!

How about a spiffy Japanese copy for a mere £25 + P&P I seem to recall my Redd Coach stocker being light blue?!
  4. The vocalist is Marcelino 'Junior' Morales. Bobby was playing trumpet at that stage of his career. The original Fania LP it appeared on is called, 'Let's turn on'. Oddly enough there is another good track on it called, 'Keep the faith'! This really was a MONSTER spin and helped shape the scene and really pave the way for other Latin sounds. (To the disgust of some folk!) LOVE IT!
  5. Slightly after the first bunch of Charly things that included RoscoeS etc. If it really matters to anyone!?!
  6. This isn't an 'ultra rare' disc by any stretch of the imagination...plenty of copies in collections, though £500+ is fair enough...imo. There are also two different label variations with regards to font and shade of label colour. It may not be hard-driving-stomping Soul...but it is VERY Northern...imo.
  7. What's the pic on the sleeve of the Aussie release look like? Is it yellowish with dancers on it?
  8. This is rare on the local Detroit label release prior to Checker....it is also a different take. Great Detroit male-group transistional Soul. Recommended if you like that sort of thing.
  9. What's the 'Going rate' on this one?
  10. For reference, as I'm getting plenty of emails about them...both the Four Pros and Mixed Emotions are sold and long gone. Plenty of other choice titles to be found on the sales pages, mind!
  11. Allow me Nick...they are the same recording. There is also an original 10" acetate floating around somewhere. Also worth nothing that Calvin William's version on Northern De-La is different (later?) recording and is very Lo-Fi and worth avoiding...imo.
  12. I have a few spares of their wonderful, 'Souled Out' LP that features 'It's up to you' (US originals). £20 each inc. courier P&P from Japan. PM me if interested.
  13. I think I can shed light on the confusion here...let's go back to 1988... This previously unissued track came across to Charly Records for licensing from Johnny Powers in the late 80's. The cassette had it listed as by The Falcons and the compiler of the the Charly LP that featured it (Motor City Magic vol.II) just followed the info supplied from Johnny. If they had given me the tapes in the first place and allowed me to do the compilation/sleeve note justice, this error would've been pointed out prior to pressing.
  14. I've had a WD of 1011. I've also exchanged emails with 'Butch Baker'...real name is Jerome Rogers. The false name was given to him by the label for two reasons i.) his grand father was a minister and didn't want him involved in singing secular music, and ii.) his nick name is Butch.
  15. This surprises me. I've had/seen plenty of copies over the years of three different label variants. One for the Hot Boxes?
  16. They also had a few Deram 45s and an LP released at the time in Japan.

    For completists/reference - there's a bunch of Japanese releases on 7" and LP's.
  19. Enterprise 5035 Lee Gates - Nothin' But Wonderful / Don't Make It A Habit I've had this one...rather good both sides and not exactly an easy number (although £400 is over optimistic imo). It's on the plain yellow variant with bar-lines. NBW is a nice happy-go-lucky almost clip-clop style dancer inna early Motown groove. DMIAH however is sublime to my ears. A lilting moody mid-tempo number with an occasional splash of vibes giving it a Detroit feel. Nice vocal too. (PS - don't bother with the other Jaime Coe discs...'I was the one' is the strongest, and that's saying something!)
  20. A brilliant double-sider for sure! I've only ever snagged a couple of copies over the years, and defo the tough number on the label...good luck with your hunt! I actually reviewed it in Shades of Soul back in 2000...here's a link to it on my site: >>> Shades of Soul Reviews <<<
  21. There's no stopping you now you have electricity and hot running water, is there?! (That Tamiko Jones on Golden World is a bargain, eh, eh?! )
