Sweet Deep & Group Ballad Cd Swap
Morning all. After testing the water with a few folk thought we'd have a crack at a 'Deep Sweet & Group Ballads' CD swap. Lower the tempo for the on-coming hot summer days. Considering the success of the related audio threads on Soul Source thought it might be worth a shot. There's an incredible wealth of tracks out there. So from whatever decade - whatever the price - All of one genre or a mixture. The choice is yours. Let's get some southern rasping and pleadings and cool harmonys burned! Shall we say 20 to be involved? With the World Cup going on - Is an approx. 4 week 'window' suitable to everyone? If you could PM me (with an email address) if you want to be included I'll put all the necessary details together. Thanks! Rich

New Ann Sexton Release
Can I sound like my Dad and say I don't care for the rap bit??? Great to see SOMEONE getting Ann out and singing. Could we see her following Martha Wash et al in being used by these new fangled house dj's/producers? Just the sort of track to entice the casual listener into soul music....IMVVHO of course.

Rozetta Johnson
Absolutley Dave. But then quality + price doesn't always stack up does it? Great 45s at very cheap money OR absolute shi** 45s at loadsa money! And vice versa of course....It's never going to be an in-demander or wasn't played at some-venue-in-1979 so will never command the price. As you say sold quite well but the market for collecting such 45s is relatively small. (which is good if you like it then you don't have to pay through the nose!)Supply and demand i guess.

Rozetta Johnson
No need Sean. Should have realised myself before jumping in. Maybe worth noting the below also got a release on Columbia. Issues being a little tricky to get as I usually see demos. There was also a great interview with her in an issue of In The Basement. 016 - Rozetta Johnson - It's Been So Nice b/w (I Like Making That) Early Morning Love

Told you I get all giddy about Clintone 45s Sebastian! Of course you're right.
-
Rozetta Johnson
Great info John. Thanks. Will have to check which ones I have- I keep buying spares of Clintone 45s when I see 'em cheap. Why I don't know! As Sean stated - the flip ' Who You Gonna Love' is just brilliant. Maybe my favourite of hers. The Kent CD's cover the GMG / Aware / Clintone / Moonsong etc catalogues and just perfect and essential listening. For anyone mildy interested they are a great way of introducing all that is great about southern soul. KENT CD's SOULSCAPE Fill yer boots!

Chained & Bound got booted on OOTP. I'd be very surprised if Mine Was Real got booted but then I don't know everything! Absolutley essential material from Rozetta. Be sure to get Paul Mooneys Selecta 45 with the above mentioned unissued track too. In fact the Soulscape CD of hers' is well worth getting if you don't have it already. Oh! and the 3 Hotlanta CD's put out by Kent! I'm getting giddy now....

Know what you mean Andy now. Pretty sure both designs are proper. I'll have to check which mine is - Is there one with the stylised font too??
-
Rozetta Johnson
Not aware of any 'unreal' ones as far as I know. Light blue is the standard issue colour isn't it? Your not thinking of Paul Mooneys 'Shotgun' release? That had the uniissued 'Keep What you Got' as the A-Side.

Patti Jo - (Patti Jo + Barry Smith ?) - Merged Topic
What a lovely thought that there could be a test / promo of Gemigo #1 of MMBIY. Highly doubtable in these days though. Actually would make a good thread - 45s issued a number but never released..
-
Patti Jo - (Patti Jo + Barry Smith ?) - Merged Topic
Great bits of info added here. Who needs Google/t'internet when you have the physical search engines of Tony Rounce & Steve G? Looking forward to seeing those articles Steve. And yes Melba Moore does a pretty spiffing version of 'Ain't No love Lost' (On her Melba LP) which I'm pretty sure I have on 45 too.

Patti Jo - (Patti Jo + Barry Smith ?) - Merged Topic
Supposedly a teenager and originally from Nashville when she cut MMBIY. Other than that snippet (and I might be wrong!) I know nothing else. Fat lot of good I am! Just gleaned that from t'internet. Maybe Boba might have something as it being cut in Chicago?? Did see some Funk compilation with a track by a Patti Jo - Hard To Handle. Don't know if it's the same one though. Other than that I know of only the 2 45s you mention. Would be ncie to think there was more material somewhere!

Ebony Sounds 45S
Thanks for looking Bob. Guessing maybe they just don't exist. Or the numbering system got a little confused. If anyone knows otherwise I'd be very interested to know.
-
Ebony Sounds 45S
Thanks Jaco. I'll have to check the Juice 45 to see if its had 2 release numbers? Maybe with the Ricky Williams 45 the gaps may be numbers pressed or given wrong release #'s? Small details I know!

Ebony Sounds 45S
Looking for information on the following numbers (if at all released?) on this neat little label. 179 / 182 / 185. Am assuming the run is numbers 175 - 188. Thanks in advance. Rich

Valuation Please
Would have thought around the £500 mark? (Timeless Legend) Marshall Donovan Broomfield would have thought a bit more? £600 or so?

Have You Ever Dreamt Up A Record?
I have had a recurring dream that I have a box of Bill Hortons' 'I Wanna Know' on Shrine (rather than Kayden) for some unexplicable reason and I wake up in that half awake feeling that I'm going to make a shed load of money selling them... I've had this dream on and off for the last 5 or 6 years.... Weird what record collecting does to the brain!

Rare Soul Review Magazines
Think I'm right in that there were 3 issues produced by Tim Brown? Has anyone got copies of all 3? Decent condition also please. PM me. Thanks! Rich

Hugh Boyton We're Gonna Make It
Understand where your coming from Sebastian but I think at the very least its a legal re-issue which suffices until a blue one comes along (or doesn't!). I can't place a mp3 on my shelves alongside my other 45s from the label!
