  1. Though never major hitmakers, the Los Angeles-based Vibrations were consistent performers through the '60s. The lineup included James Johnson, Carl Fisher, Richard Owens, Dave Govan, and Don Bradley. They began recording as the Jayhawks, then scored a couple of novelty hits performing as the Marathons. Neither "The Watusi" nor "Peanut Butter" were particularly triumphant, but each managed to chart in both the R&B and pop markets. When they became the Vibrations in 1964, they gradually turned to more romantic material, although their first hit, "My Girl Sloopy," was closer to their previous cuts. They had their last brush with glory in 1968 with the Okeh song "Love in Them There Hills." Although Richard Owens was briefly in the Temptations in 1971, the Vibrations continued on until 1976, closing out their career as a nightclub act. From All Music Guide - Ron Hall. ** Guess like many groups in 60s soul USA - many went under the same name but in different geographical areas. Anyone else help? Both Mello Moods & Talk Of The Town recorded on Gamble . TOTT also on TSOP. Vibrations also on NEPTUNE. Since all were obviously Gamble & Huff labels would assume the Vibrations are the same group. So IS North Bay a G&H label? Judging by the sparks flying re. PIR records on another thread - wouldn't the detractors of PIR be better in here as regards to G&H output???? Regards Rich
  2. Aye. Can while away the last part of the day now.

No more than a tenner I would say. Good artist to collect IMO. Rich
  6. Thats cool Shane. Would be a nice thought ( in a perfect world ) that this stuff would be legit and contributions mads back to original artists / writers etc. I'd always assumed these days there was less ' problem ' issues of records been put out these days due to world being a smaller place due to the internet etc . How wrong I am.... Rich
  7. Apologies too Shane if what has been written was meant to unearth or name names. Wasn't any intention . Rich
  8. No doubting Philly Internationals credentials as soul music IMHO - just as Motown was pop / soul selling to the masses in the 60's - PIR was one of the labels at the top end of soul music in the 70's. Because of the sheer output of these labels there was always going to be the ' misses ' that found favour in northern / rare soul rooms. The ' I Love Music 's ' of the label personally wouldn't sit right in a rare / northern room for me but as posted, there are many many great 45s / LP cuts that sit perfect in modern rooms etc Plus - for me Motown / Philly / Atlantic / Stax - the big 4 so to speak got me into this whole thing of rare soul in the first place . The perfect stepping stone from the big commercial end to delving deeper into soul.. Cheers Rich
  9. Hats off to Expansion then if true. So it still seems its a bit of a free for all still then re. the Mr Soul / Jimmy Hornes etc etc. we see listed on ebay by their hundreds if not thousands.. Thought they would be legit's coming from certain dealers.. oh well... regards Rich
  10. Kinda what I thought J to be honest... just wondering aloud really due to the fact that most people have an opinion on repros / boots. I know they have always been a part of the scene since the year dot due to supply & demand etc , just thought in my naivety that things MAY have changed for the better..... Rich
  11. This has probably been discussed at severe length before so apologies in advance but... Piling thru the 9000 45s on ebay the % of repro lookalikes ( Jimmy Horne Just Cant DADE to name one ) Are these legit re-issues with money going to artist / songwriters etc? Or for example a 45 like Hamilton Movement on repro ... boots or legal re-issues. Cheers Rich
  12. Curtis Mayfield - rest his soul... like Stevie W bet he had so much more in him. Rich
  13. Too true Baz... Calling ' 634-5789 ' soul police again.... Rich
  14. Didnt think so either Shrew to be honest - just gleaned it from the following https://www.warnerchappell.com/wcm_2/song_s...ongId=108322700 Gotta agree with the BIGSOULMAN Lenny - the Little Dooley 45 is a belter of a 45.. Rich
  15. Label owned by Gamble & Huff I understand. Quite an embryonic PIR label then? Just remembered I have the Tony Cummings Philly Book from way back. Will have a look and see what it comes up with. Cheers Rich
  16. Many thanks Simon - Always thought there were more for some unknown reason.. Your right about the Love Brothers. Only one I dont know is the Loius Williams. Any one know if its any cop? Or price ? Cheers Rich
  17. Anybody got a complete listing ? Nice little label IMO - trying to complete . Cheers! Rich
  18. I thought there was too . . . anyone have any ideas?? Rich
  19. ' Master ' found a few at a record fair this year - absolutley love this. never leaves my faves box. Have to agree on the Masqueraders with everyone - finally got one this year. . . outstanding 45. Rich
  20. Got one at home - US pressing - Will have a look this weekend if no-one posts up info quicker. I THINK they look the same - but have a kind of ' photocopy ' look if you know what I mean. Plus the fact they are all sealed for a tenner give us a clue.. tho I have seen soul / funk LP re-presses described as originals by non-soul dealers... Tho that wouldn't be a first would it? As far as sound quality goes - they sound fine. Maybe one of the funk guys can give up more detailed info? Rich
  21. Surely has Gene R - there's plenty around on the ' bay or specialist vinyl emporiums for around a tenner at most times. think most if not all the catalogue has been re pressed. Soul Brother maybe? Rich
  22. Saw this last night in my 'unfiled' piles of 45s.... Not got the Jackie Payne tho ' . ....great tune. NA ALLEN - Hard To Without You ( Pedestal ) ..... love this guy's voice! Rich
  23. Am gettin scared now - Percy Thomas - Hey Love - Always in my lil faves box . Another couple shouldn't be more than a tenner Sylvester - Here Is My Love ( Fantasy 912 ) Nice mellow cut from the ' mighty realer ' . bit of a vocal range this guy! WJ Moore & the Mighty Upsetters - Shame Shame Shame ( Gutter 86003 ) Love the Jesse James 45! Rich
  24. Spooky indeed . There's an LP which is quite pricey - never heard all of it. Have seen ' You & Me ' on a few playlists tho - def. deserves a few more spins IMO . Rich
  25. Many thanks ! Always loved the 45 tho looks like it'll be a hard one judging by the amount that's turned up over how many years??? Rich
