Rudy Lambert - Love - Club 7
Fabulous r&b record.....was a discussion about this over on Modculture recently....a tough 45 for the genre and what a sound. Gorgeous label too. Anything else on it? Regret selling my copy of this a few years back....

Rufus Wood 'frisson'
To be fair he is actually right about the record. Just made me laugh as its exactly how you'd imagine Tony Parshole or Brian Sewell to talk about it...... A candidate for Pseuds Corner in Private Eye I think.... Having said that i think it would be fair to say there are plenty of soul records that could be considered high art so maybe all the verbal is apt??

The Sweethearts - Beauty Is Just Skin Deep - Kent
I've always thought this was tougher than the other one on the label?...does anyone know what a nice copy would go for at the moment? Cheers! JM

Rufus Wood 'frisson'
I've no idea i was just following the sellers lead. What other soulful 'frissons' can be heard in the records?

The whole rucksack thing is brilliant. Throws up images of a sort of soulful Charles Hawtrey back packing around with all pots and pans hanging off.

Rufus Wood 'frisson'
From a listing on ebay: "Back in 1968, Houston, Texas native Rufus Wood was a mysterious genius nonpareil - his brilliant and presciently titled hard-hitting soul record "Before 2001" gave everyone who was alive at the time 33 years advance notice on how the 21st Century would be. In this song he sings of being a king with his queen and convincingly sings "Before 2001, I want to have my fun" on this ultra rare one-off 45 for the Espanola label. The Espanola label HQ was situated at 3602 Dowling in the heart of Houston's Third Ward - and in this case the reference number does match the street address. Today, it seems as if Espanola and Rufus Wood have vanished into thin air - not much is known about this one-off label and its star singer. I like to refer to Rufus Wood's "Before 2001" and "Ghettoville" as a type of subtle Northern Soul subterfuge - with his music he is able to masterfully get someone to dance by giving the option to contemplate his thematic subjects later. As great as Wood's singing is, the musical arrangements of "Before 2001" give an unexpected frisson with its edgy guitar riffs and hard-driving beat." I think we could all agree that the juxtapositioning of Wood's vocals within the historical context of the lyrical content definitely collaborate to imbue the listener with a sense of 'joie de vivre' at the abundant possibilites of the future. What do you guys think?

Intentions/intensions/dennis Brennan Question
Hi! Was Dennis' group The Intentions who recorded on Philips the same crew that cut 'I Just Can't Win/Feel So Good' on Moneytown and 'She Needs Somebody' on USA? Could anyone give me a discography for them as they seem to have recorded on a number of labels.... Any info would be great! ps. Already tried Dennis' site for details..... Thanks, JM

Fletcher Walker 111 Guess I,ll Never Understand Paramount £20 Vg
Following on from our conversation bout this before, I don't think this is a £100 record demo or issue....I think £50 for a mint one would be about right at the moment....?? I only say this as there seems to be no demand for it?

The Valentines - We're Not Too Young
If thats case this 'Soul Brother EP' on I-Tunes has simply put CS up as The Valentines by mistake. Probably because they share the same label? Thanks for info btw Boba.
-
The Valentines - We're Not Too Young
Hi thanks for your reply...... Found out the score...its The Continental Showstoppers that I've heard but strangely has been re-mastered and put onto I-Tunes as part of the 'Soul Brothers: The Valentines EP' along with Breakaway and a few others....must be because they share the label? They sound almost identical unless The Valentines is either an unreleased cut or they were the same band??

Little Melvin & The Boleros
Thanks for your replies.... In that case i'm already harmballed up with a blue copy....fantastic record.....backing vocals remind me of bits of 'Girl From A Country Town'.....

Norwood Long-i'd Like To Have You
046._I_d_Like_To_Have_You.mp3 Thats a full on WOW in my book Interestingly Goldmine's Philly comp with this on says its unreleased....does that mean its a slightly different take or something??
-
Norwood Long-i'd Like To Have You
I've seen them maybe four copies in varying conditions go for between £100 and £250 over the last year, and i paid a bit more than that a while back now so £200 seems very reasonable to me, especially for such a fantastic record. Heard Mick Smith play it at the 100 a few months back and it sounded the absolute business......

Sir Henery Ivy - He Saw You Standing There - Future Dimension
