  1. A few plays from me from last night at the Kingpower Stadium, mostly well known bits to those of a modern persuasion, with one or two fresh bits thrown in for good measure!! Thanks to Fitzy for the invite to play once again, and co-spinners Barry Cooper and Clive Henderson for some great and varied music. By far the best night we have had in the modern room down there, so we hope to carry that forward to the next event. 10:30pm — 11:45pm The SouLutions - Listen (Drizabone Extended Remix) Regrooved feat. 2. I need to NOT follow this thread......and certainly not comment or I'll be accused of being vindictive again...... Dear oh dear....... .......but well done on the outlook Matt......a nice attitude whatever I may or may not think of the specific choices. No more from me...... Cheers, Mark R
  3. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery Ian. Cheers, Mark R
  4. Another great post.........and the tape bit, and changing musical taste, strikes a chord with me.....absolutely! Cheers, Mark R
  5. Ian, I agree completely with your second paragraph, though I don't think it's daft, I see it as perfectly understandable. I was the opposite, being too young in the 70's but started the adventure early 80's. BUT, these facts should tell you that I have no "obsession" with comparing decades if that was aimed at me, as I was not there in the 70's.....so I'm not qualified to do it!! It seems to me that you were saying the 70's was the best period of your life, not of the scene. If that's what you meant then fine of course because in that context it makes sense, but that's not how it read to me in the context of this thread. Such ambiguity would not arise in a face to face chat, which will shall have over that beer soon! Cheers, Mark R
  6. Ian, a few weeks ago you were telling us that you were in New York or somewhere in the 80's, so how do you know the Wigan era was the best era? I'm not always spoiling for a fight mate......really I'm not, but you can't have it both ways.....it's just not credible!! Cheers, MarkR
  7. What a great, reasonable, balanced post! Nice one! Cheers, Mark R
  8. Myself and Fish Saturday night set at Prestatyn, double decking 3+3, is now available for your listening pleasure!! https://starpointsoulboy.podomatic.com/entry/2014-08-16T07_04_09-07_00 Cheers, Mark R
  9. Only one I can think of that fits the dadah dadah description is World Column "So Is the Sun", but it doesn't fit the rest of the description so I doubt it's that. Was a new release early 1976. Cheers, Mark R
  10. Look forward to it Ian. I know you took me to task over my feelings on the shortcomings of the BBC4 thing, but I do relish these things and only go off on one because I care that it's done properly. That should be seen as a positive and not a negative. Despite what you might think, I do value the history of it all, I really do......I just don't like people to be encouraged to live in the past! ATB, Mark R
  11. I have it on good authority than Norman Jay is currently playing Northern Soul in the sunshine at the Margate weekender! Cheers, Mark R
  12. Hi Ian, I was on the car park they call the M5 yesterday, and though I'd seen this just didn't get chance to reply. See below in blue, answers to your replies to my original points in red........... Cheers, Mark R
  13. [quote name="Ian I want a museum OK!!!!! Ian D
  14. I love reading that places like Cleethorpes played a healthy amount of new releases. It tells me that some places were following the natural progression of playing the latest SOUL music, rather than the regression that Wigan seemed to suffer until Sam and Richard turned things around in the latter days. Brings us nicely back on topic that biggest ain't always best from a musical integrity point of view, and it strikes me that Wigan was as bad as it were good in anything it sowed for the scene going forward. Pop stompers and Oldies all niters not being exactly the platform to spring a healthy progressive scene playing SOUL music. But don't shoot me.....I wasn't there but do find all the history fascinating, especially the 'what might have been'!! Cheers, Mark R
  15. If we accept the brief as explained by those involved (I.e. 70's glory years), am I the only one that thinks the title of the program was ill conceived? It was Northern Soul:Living For The Weekend wasn't it? Not suffixed with "in the 70's". That is the reason an otherwise good, and certainly one of the better of its type, program ultimately disappointed. Like I said elsewhere, this is compounded by the fact that now got a mention, but nothing between 81 and now. Is that so hard to understand? Cheers, Mark R
  16. Your last para about respect being a two-way thing is something thats been very much in my mind recemtly Jock! Well said! Cheers, Mark R
  17. Hi folks, Finally got my hands on my Friday night set from Prestatyn 2014 back in March. Hoping to get the Saturday night set up soon too, but in the meantime hope you enjoy this! https://www.mixcloud.com/soulboymark/mark-randle-live-prestatyn-soul-weekender-friday-7-march-2014/ Also at Podomatic to download.......... https://starpointsoulboy.podomatic.com/entry/2014-07-30T01_52_24-07_00 Cheers, Mark R
  18. I was too young for either, but from what I've learned over the years I do have to wonder what might have happened if a club like the Mecca had held sway over the Casino. Cheers, Mark R
  19. I'd really like to know why they have Ian!! Cheers, Mark R
  20. In fairness Tim, I can tell you for a fact that Mick Hubbard used to buy records off Waterman in the 70's. Not that that makes him a key player or important, and certainly the fact that he's a millionaire industry figure means nowt to something like the NS scene, but it's worthy of note for the record. Cheers, Mark R
  21. And that my friend is post of the thread. Very well put indeed! Cheers, Mark R
  22. Wise words........ Cheers, Mark R
  23. Evidently not, though I didn't consider it either a barb or unnecessary. Best keep out of each other way on here though, as your forthright, definitive posts on both the music and aspects of the scene do seem to wind me up! I've just clocked your latest effort!! Worth considering the fact that this happens to me with no-one else on here like........ Cheers, Mark R
  24. Don't be so patronising Pete......how 'brilliant' it remained is in the eye of the beholder, and I can tell you it seemed pretty brilliant to this 16 year old!! The irony is is that it's the aspects of it that make it a joke that these producers seem to major on, and I can fully understand why that winds some people up. The obsession with Wigan Casino both from within and from outside the NS scene has done more harm than good is how it seems to me.......and that's from someone that would have given their right arm to have gone there! ! Cheers, Mark R
  25. Then my question would be what exactly is the point of the program? If it ended at Wigan and said nowt about any point after that, then fine. But they didn't and rarely do, so how can you shuttle to now without including it all? It makes no sense!! I'm working my way through Breaking Bad at the moment and sure wouldn't chose to watch only the start and the end as that would not give me the full picture? Cheers, Mark R
