This was Dave in the early 2000's at a Togetherness Weekender..........clearly lost some of the youthfull exuberbence (ain't we all!).......took this pic for a bit of a laff!! Still got the beard you'll notice, if not quite as full!! Cheers, Mark R
  2. Dunno Mark...........it felt like I was wearing flippers mate by the time I got there after lots of pints of Nuneaton's finest I remember feeling the same at a Loughbrough niter at the town hall..............maybe that was another birthday Sorry for going O/T Russ.............back on track fellas Cheers, Mark R
  3. Mansfield Swan..............was that "Soul Power Soul Club"??...................if so, that's filled a gap for me, as I spent my 21st birthday at a nighter in Mansfield (late Nov '87), but could never remember the name of the place, just that it was "Soul Power Soul Club" as I recall............seem to recall a dingy, low ceiling place?? I was very drunk though..........it was an impromtu visit Tales to tell from that night as I was with some characters!!!!! Cheers, Mark R
  4. Wasn't this a Stafford spin?? Cheers, Mark R
  5. Great record.........if records like this were ignored because of (lack of??) dance floor appeal it would be a crime!! That's why, on reflection, the Stafford period was so good. If it reduces me to a quivering wreck, be it slow or fast, I can groove to it! Cheers, Mark R
  6. And that's my flyer I gave to you Chalky ..........can see the pinhole in the top where it was on my wall!! I think they ended up in a Manifesto a year or two back too. Cheers, Mark R
  7. Started in 82, no??? Cheers, Mark R
  8. I remember it Si, but not the date.........it was when the owner stopped the music and got on stage giving everyone a lecture they didn't want. We established a while ago that this was the last night. But the date...............? Cheers, Mark R
  9. Stella, did you not get the other two I posted a while back??? Cheers, Mark R
  10. OK, track listing as follows folks..............struggled with info on correct mixes, as although I did eventually find a listing, I hadn't included mix details. I've done my best to determine the mixes, short of digging out the 12's, which would be a task in itself!! So don't hold me to it.......as far as I recall, the Phuture Sole & the Sicania Soul are the only ones to be careful with, as each was released on 2 12's with different mixes. Rufuss feat. Yuanist Woods - This Could Be Love (EU Qalomota 12" "The Master & Apprentice E.P.") 280 West feat. Diamond Temple - Fly (280 West Mix) (US Phuture Sole 12") Knee Deep feat. Brooke Russel - I Won't Let You Down (Knee Deep Club Mix) (US Knee Deep 12") Gabriel Rene - Spirit (US Soulfuric W/L WMC 2004 Sampler 12") Dimitri from Paris feat. Omar - Strong Man (For Real) (EU Discograph 12") Terry Hunter feat. Charlotte Smalls - Follow You (Terry Hunter Main Mix) (US T's Box 12") Steal Vybe - A New Beginning (US Steal Vybe 12") Glenn Underground - Hard Tymes (US Eargasmic 12" "Archives E.P") Mena Keys - D.C. Dub Groove (US Jellybean Soul 12") Sicania Soul - Starlite (Sicania Soul Live Mix) (US Irma 12") Groove Junkies pres. Solara - Sunshine (Sol Brilliante) (GJ's Nueva Soul Mix) (US More House 12") Chez Damier feat. Leroy Burgess - Your Love (Lifted Me Up) (Deep Vocal Mix) (US Track Mode 12") Kenny Bobien - Hiya Luv (JAP Victor CD "Keep Hope Alive") Loosefingers - When Summer Comes (US Alleviated 12") Cheers, Mark R
  11. I was double decking at Prestatyn with Girth this year ot last, and he pulled that and played it on that big system and it made my day........one of my faves. Cheers, Mark R
  12. Nice one Ted.......listing to follow mate! Cheers, Mark R
  13. List to follow mate...........it's no big secret, just don't have one ready to hand, and they are 4 year old tunes mate, positively ancient now I do remember what they all are, but want to get any mix info correct...........always important for these 12's. Cheers, Mark R
  14. A while ago I think I posted a couple of mixes I'd put together several years ago and they seemed quite popular. I certainly posted them on EMS. I found a further CD with one on, from September 2004, and thought it would be a nice Bank Holiday treat to post it up.............but I didn't do it in time!! But now it's here: https://rcpt.yousendit.com/600704045/bd532d...17dcac44718871f It's similar to the others.........soulful house, thru some deeper jazzy bits. I think the music speaks for itself.........but I would, or I wouldn't have put these tracks together would I?? You'll notice from the title of the file that I'm not really a mixer..........I find it doesn't help to take yourself too seriously!! I'll certainly never let that stop me from playing records of this quality. Hope you enjoy...........the first cut is especially for those that think house has nothing to do with soul music...........if you still think that after listening to track 1, then it's time to go back to "soul school" IMVHO. Enjoy, Mark R
  15. Listen again for August show now available here: https://rcpt.yousendit.com/600372405/ee36a0...8c2eef16c8c0a14 Enjoy!! Mark R

Re David Sea, didn't someone recently (Steve G??) say that this was a 300 or maybe 500 press? If so ,then totally agree with Jock & Co on this as being a bargain at £40. Tune!! Cheers, Mark R
  18. A class post dealing with so many of the issues and hypocrisy that I see in a scene that, despite which, I also defend to the hilt. Cheers, Mark R
  19. Just had an idea...............instead of just sitting at your computer tonight arguing with Mr Levine, connect to www.starpointradio.com at the same time and make use of the time listening to some tunes!! Listening figures would go through the roof!! Cheers, Mark R
  20. But, generally speaking Mark, those slower sounds had far more soul content than the other stuff, which is why I can never get it out of my head that NS is more about a "scene" and the records that fit it, than it is about "soul music"!! As I've said before, I have no issue with that, until those people try to tell me what soul music is!! Cheers, Mark R
  21. Quick reminder that it's last Monday in the month once again, so I'm in the hot seat tomorrow Monday, August 25th.............7-9pm at www.starpointradio.com. Cheers, Mark R

People are probably bored with me saying this, but "Rumors" was probably the single biggest tune that turned me towards contemporary soul when I was into the NS scene. When I bought the album and heard the rest of it, it just got better!! Fantastic memories............and to prove that hostilities between NS and MS scenes could be overcome, check out Adam playing the on the Leicester 2nd Anniversay video...............a chocablock dancefloor in the main hall!! Maybe those times are returning with the Michael Proctor/UBP tunes being spun in the Northern rooms now???? I'm sure some don't appreciate that, but I just want to hear good music, so it's fine by me. Check out Kashif's stuff........top man! Cheers, Mark R
