  1. Thanks Graham I didn't know that Berry has such a collection. I am surprised but heartened to learn that. That fact makes it easy to believe that the above suggestion is more likely. Thanks again for the article.
  2. Great article Graham. However, I'd need some convincing that Berry Gordy acquired a copy via ebay . Whilst it may be a personal move, he is not particularly known for his sentimental approach to the legacy of Motown Memorabilia.
  3. Nice piece in The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/oct/17/ivy-jo-hunter-obituary

The guy is called Flery Robertson and he states he was asked to play piano for the S-W team. He says Staunton went to LA...and he worked with Walker. So the RCA Walker does indeed appear to be Motown's S-W.

I read a post on youtube linked to a Robert Walker track...The Blizzard I think. The poster claimed to be the composer on the track, and talks of travelling from Detroit to New York, recording the track with musicians "live"....and not done the Motown way .....ie multi tracked . So the Detroit connection may refer to the same Robert Walker. I'll try to find it again.

Thanks Andy. The Staunton - Walker team ( with Jones and Dobyne) seem to disappear after Motown (65 ish)....unless somebody knows anything of their career after Motown. I know Robert Dobyne had later 45s

Apologies if this has been raised before, but does anybody know if Robert Walker (The Blizzard/ Stick to me) RCA was the Motown Robert Walker ( Staunton & Walker) ? thanks
  9. Found the name of I G Hunter in the Detroit Phone Directory. Rang it on the off chance, and was delighted to find it was the great man. Had a nice chat with him ...I think mainly about unreleased product. Mentioned " I remember when ( Dedicated to Beverly)....think he appreciated it.
  10. That is sad...one of my favourite Motown Writers/Producers. RIP
  11. There are repirts on another web site, reporting the death of Ivy Hunter. Sad if it is true.
  12. Mal C Hope you enjoy the album, it's excellent IMO, great group and Lamont Dozier at his best.
  13. Detroit...the Movie relating the 1967 riots is shown on Saturday 8 October BBC 1, 11.35. Quite a few Detroit Soul references if you look out for them.
  14. Top tune Written & Produced by the legend Lamont Dozier, taken from the great "California Sunset" album
  15. A classic...
  16. Not too clear...but the intended Jimmy Ruffin befire it was edited
  17. Did Feldman play on Mirwood records too...lots of vibes
  18. Not sure it's Funk Bros...ian't it more like Wrecking Crew?
  19. Anybody want to be the first to attack this?
  20. Surely a record is still as good/ bad as the minute it was finished in the studio. It's only the "Punters" perception that changes. If it was brilliant as Eddie Foster, has DILY( IID) got worse over the years.
  21. Sadly, Not for Frank Wilson
  22. It's a tribute album to Soul Music, and he is visiting Smokey, Jerry Butler, Sam Moore, Tyrone Davis, William Bell, Levi Stubbs, David Ruffin and more. Everyday I listen to Radio Stations ( News Stations) whose Presenters are completely ignorant of Soul Music, believing that everybody went to 6th Form College, Higher Education, Polytechnics and University. If you didn't ....you and your music tastes don't count. So I'm glad to see some recognition of the artists we love by a MAJOR Pop/Rock Star.
