  1. A massive loss. The Brothers of Soul were just that. So talented.RIP
  2. Mal I hear where you're coming from and obviously hope you are correct from a self interest perspective - but as John Manship said recently, it's a global thing now with interest in the records from all over the world, so I just think prices will continue to go up 'cos of that - not saying it's right, just the way it is
  3. it is amazing how many of these rare records get sold by the seller: carolinasoul on ebay.
  4. This is sad news, I had the pleasure of meeting Denise a number of times in visits to the USA as well as interviewing her for my radio show on Kiss FM -London back in the day. An incredible talent, a lady of strong character, who didn't suffer fools. My fave from Denise Lasalle is the 60s release 'A Love Reputation' on Tarpon / Cadet (USA). A superb singer who will be surely missed to those of us who favor the real deal. My condolences go out to her family and friends. R.I.P Denise Lasalle Dr Bob Jones.
  5. so sad here i am one of my favourites r.i.p. denise
  6. Back in the day (60's), I DJed with vinyl, and also entertained myself at home with vinyl - that was the best that was around back then. And I had the discatron thing to play stuff on the move - limited, of course, to how many 45s I could get in my BEA bag..... Would I want to do the same now? I doubt it. Surely, the best way to listen to vinyl "on the move" today, is simply to use a best quality deck to record the tracks into mp3 (or flac if you have the memory), and load them onto your smartphone or some Cloud service? I have over 140,000 music tracks in digital form (far more than I could listen to in a lifetime ), - 10,000 of them are Soul/Ska tracks - so now I am doing Mixcloud and Spotify to make them accessible to all. Discatron was good in its day, but, for me, its day has gone
  7. Think I'll wait for the boot , BRUTUS . 😱
  8. Oh my Lord, I can foresee this being equally as popular as "tailor made" records.
  9. 😢 goodbye soul girl X r.I.p baz n shelly
  10. Ah ha! Here's the very one....
  11. Btw, mine looked like something like this, but without the "Penny" brand name.....
  12. The main thing I remember about mine (bought in '69) is that it slowly destroyed the precious 45s I was putting in it. In order to work in a vertical position, a certain degree of spring pressure seemed to be needed - this inevitably caused wear on the disc playing surface. You could tell by just looking at the grooves to see how it was wearing out the discs! Is the new design any different in that regard?
  13. I had the Discassette fitted in my 1965 Mini Cooper in 1973/4
  14. Hi Pete, was I the last owner of your Discatron(s)? Remember one of them even had a cassette player on it? Like David Meikle, I kinda remember them as more square than rectangular, but maybe there were 2 or 3 different versions / designs (Bush Discassette?) Used to love taking this around, along with a box of records and a bag full of replacement batteries! ppl were always impressed (this would have been the mid-70's rather than the 60's, so most ppl wouldn't have seen one). Good luck! Definitely interested. Paul (Brown) ps Happy New Year.
  15. Morning David, You are right, this is an original model produced by Discatron in Birmingham in the mid 60's, then Bush bought Discatron out and revised the design to a smaller square design which incorporated a cassette player on the top, this was called the Discassette. I also had this one. We reckoned that there was less requirement for the cassette player and wanted to be as true to the original model as possible. Thank you for your interest. Pete and Paddy
  16. Soul heaven's getting Fuller, RIP ✌🎶🎶
  17. If there are no words yet, there is no completed melody. The lyricist who writes words will be defining part of the melody and in that case would need the appropriate split with the PRS/MCPS for the song writing. Also, would be good if the singer had a performer PPL id, so when you register it with your ISRC number and declare those who performed on it, they would get a royalty from airplay (as well as the 'label' -you?) :-) I think some hand claps on the 2/4 would work on certain bars - real ones - at least three, recorded separate tracks. Do not loop hand clap single bars, do at least 4 and 8 if you can. If you do hand claps pan right (or left) then pan you tambourine the opposite. You probably know all this. Sounds like a 1975 cut with elements of the 60s. Nice one.
