Think he means MAROON & GREYS (DUROMINE) Ken, absolute waste of time on their own too. Remember dropping a load at Wigan in 1973 and just about being kept awake, after that they needed mixing to set em off.

  9. Great idea this, well done Paul & Malc - been to plenty of these before, the best one at a packed Top Rank Hanley (that takes a bit of doing) all nighter in 1973 with Alan Day, Minsh & I think Mr Martyn Ellis. He was there (dont remember if he was on though). We actually had been told the Torch was back on , so totally blocked , headed for Hose Street to find loads of other like minded individuals wandering about - to find it was at Hanley( Bast!!) . But this promises to be the big daddy of em all. The best Sounds ever, the characters, the good old fashioned English rolling in the bogs and the proper traditional Gear!! (Just like the Torch) Be seeing you
  10. HERMAN HITSON - YES YOU DID (MINIT) ALEXANDER PATTON - LIL LOVING SOMETIMES (US CAPITOL) Originals only please obviously can anyone out there help please? Many thanks
  11. Hi, there were all-dayers in 1973 at MARKET DRAYTON , advertised as a, "BARBEQUE & SPLASH" presumably at a pool. Bet the burgers went down well on a sunday CHRIS
  12. WHATS DONNY GOT TO DO WITH IT?????
  13. Yeah, I went to this, remember it well. Was that smashed, we missed the last train home to Sheffield (had to change trains 3 times going to Northwich, bloody awful place to get to.) But then a brainwave - John Vincents on, fellow Sheffielder, he'll give us a lift back to Gods own country. Know him well.Dont want a lift to the door John, anywhere in town will do John, any chance of a lift back, theres only you in the car, eh, eh?? NO CHANCE !! Thanks John. Luckilly Dave Evison was also on the bill, proper mate, he let us stop (not sleep) at his Manchester flat.

Yeah Andy WAS good, but you couldnt be within 6 feet of him when he was spinning or you would be sprayed with sweat or lashed to death with his hair. The best dancer was his mate Kegsy, never seen anyone do back drops and spring back up like he did. His footwork was tremendous. CHRIS

  19. 51 next month mate, first outing was Blackpool Mecca as a callow 15 year old in 72. Never looked back! What about the nighters at Tiffanies on London Road in Sheff, that was about 79/80, anybody on here go? CHRIS BROOKE
  20. Started going to the Nether Edge Hall in 1972, every Thursday - 10P to get in, it was all on one level with a bar area and biggish dance-floor.It did what it said on the tin, it was a dance-hall.It was a "normal" night playing all the latest pop stuff but with plenty of Soul (usual club sounds and all the latest pressings), Alan Millington deejaying. By 1973, we all used to meet there to decide the plans for the nighter at the weekend, ie would it be Va-Va's or Leeds Central, where were we meeting and most importantly where the GEAR was coming from. There were plenty of folk there who liked a bit of Soul, but the hardcore travelling week in, week out nighter crowd from Sheffield was Me, Mopsey, Russell Davy, Saunders, Pete Wright,Gus,Richard W,Andy Plax and Shent, with the occasionally appearance from the Old Sheffield crowd (Cass, John Metcalfe, Rogert or Bob Harris). Anybody else who said they "went" around that era is telling porkies! After a few months of Wigan, that figure was probably down to about 4 of us, believe it or not but thats true.I seem to remember Alan going to the Va-Va one week with us. Samanthas was also on on sundays but thats another story, dont believe everything you hear about that place either, as "recalled" by a big local deejay. CHRIS BROOKE
  21. Dear Lads, sorry but all I can think of is The Emperors New Clothes, perhaps I'm stuck in a time warp, but each to their own eh? Best wishes to one and all, Merry Christmas
  22. I also had bought loads of gems from Soul Bowl (also when they were called Groove City) from '73 onwards, things like Donna Coleman (£3), Mickie champion (£3) etc.. when Baby dont you weep was a quid, month in month out and no-one would play it at a nighter because it was cheap and common! So I sent for the Soulpack (seem to remember it was £10 all in). I remember half of it was 70's crap ,apart from Diane Jenkins - I need you (which I love),which I played for about 20 seconds each, then sold on ebay years later, but the rest were good , Dean Parrish-Bricks, broken bottles & sticks Tina Britt-You're absolutely right, Sandra Phillips-You succeeded Tony Lamarr-Just in the nick of time Four sonics-Tell me you're mine Jackie Shane-In my tenement Junior Wells-Cramp my style Ethics-Standing in the darkness Players-Get right, plus many, many more not bad for 10p each eh?
  23. Nice one Mate, thanks for that
