  1. Are you sure about this?
  2. Ok - so are you a DJ or a collecter? Do you own a good selection of 60's, 70's, RnB, Modern etc? If not then you are restricted as to which venues you can play at and I think this was the point I was trying to make (badly perhaps ) that the DJ is a better allrounder. Personally I only collect early 60's/RnB and have been fortunate to guest at a number of venues that promote that style of music but I would never consider myself a DJ because my collection restricts my ability to play across the board. Hope this makes more sense.
  3. In my opinion there is a difference between the two... The DJ......... is to me an entertainer. Those who are good at their craft have a wide range of styles and tempos at their disposal and will work hard to keep the dance floor busy. This involves carrying a large number of records, maybe 200 - 400, and may include records that are not always to their own personal taste but are popular with the masses. They are good at assessing what is required prior to their spot and would feel confident DJing at a wide variety of venues. The Collector.............wears his heart on his sleeve. He wants to share records with you that reflect his own personal taste, and hopes you will like them. Happy to turn up with an 80 box. Usually chosen by a promoter who thinks their style will suit his particular venue. As I approach old age, I am more selective as to which venues I attend. I like to hear new sounds in order to maintain my levels of interest, and I like to chat with folk more knowledgable than myself who share similar tastes. At one time it would have been the DJ, but now, it has to be the Collector........
  4. Thanks everybody for replies/PMs. Feel better able to proceed as a result
  5. Have just received a record off ebay 'buy it now'. USA Seller 100% (689) Record described as M- Arrived badly packed in two pieces of cardboard, vinyl cracked in 2 places and condition no better than vg+ Sellers feedback is good so assume this is a one off? Contacted seller to ask for refund - this was his reply "Greetings....that record was in great shape, high gloss and not a mark on it,I even recorded both sides for myself....cracks apparently happened in shipping" Have replied stating that I don't agree with grading and want refund but no reply received as yet. Now we're not talking huge sums of money here but as a matter of principal I don't like being ripped off. What do I do next if he remains unwilling to refund? Do I open paypal dispute? Should I leave negative feedback, and if so when?
  6. Ruth Brown does it for me
  7. Flaming Emeralds - Have some everybody......floor like a trampoline!
  8. I think the acid test, back in the day, was whether people danced to it as opposed to it fitting into a particular category. Trip was a great dancer and that made it popular. Things were simpler then in that the music was either sixties or seventies unlike the multiple genres that we have today. IMHO of course
  9. 'The Trip' was played.............just about everywhere... Its a classic just like 'Afternoon of the Rhino' etc This thread is throwing up a few surprises for me in terms of one mans 'newie' is anothers 'oldie'....meant in a good way of course
  10. Loved these - great dancers...............remember not everybody agreed at the time though
  11. Never went to Cleethorpes..............and even though I heard them at Wigan, these will always be Ritz records for me Were they broken at Cleethorpes first or played at both venues at the same time? Like others have said, I would love to hear this style of music getting plays again.
  12. Sam & Dave - Hold on I'm ..............(Birth Control) Sorry...but somebody was gonna say it
  13. If it suits the venue, then fine..............personally speaking I choose my venues more carefully
  14. Think your early morning posts were better

  23. Used to own a CJ55 myself Alan, with Linn Basik arm and P77 cartridge - lovely deck - used to play it through an A&R A60 amp and Moniter Audio 252 Speakers. Sounded great! Remember the sales blurb when I bought it stated that it had been designed to take on the attributes of a musical instrument. Tried to buy it back off the guy I sold it to a couple of years ago but he wasn't having any of it.
