The winning bid was £ 127.00 Johnny Dunn You're Hanging Me Up C/w False Pride In recent times the high-demand for this Morty Craft project from the Jamaican New York Island scene forced a limited vinyl bootleg press of it to hit the market. Ironically this lifted awareness for the thumping power-house Northern Soul side that has sat under-the-radar in recent times. 2. Magnificents There Can Be A Better Way C/w Don't Take Your Love It is no coincidence that we’re featuring PIED PIPER this month or indeed the Magnificents on Dee Gee, we love the vocal group sound and all it’s mystery. After PIED PIPER’s demise Jack Ashford spent a brief time in California trying for a break through with his and Lorraine Chandler’s Detroit sessions, in the what must have seemed to be a “Closed-Shop”. Even recordings like Eddie Parker’s subliminal “But If You Must Go” selling nothing after Radio Station rebuffs. Or this his other attempt at opening DJ’s deaf ears with a vocal group masterpiece that became a Cleethorpes Pier anthem and has remained on the Super-Rare radar ever since. I have always despaired at some of the truly great records that passed through Radio Stations by without so much as a single play. Thank Heavens for Northern Soul, without it, the Eddie Parker’s, this The Magnificents would be lost forever: and the name’s of Jack Ashford & Lorraine Chandler would melt into obscurity. Whilst Northern Soul exists Jack & Lorraine will be held aloft for the geniuses they are: And records of this calibre, for the serious collector will always be considered a trophy of a lifetime to own. I personally I still regret “But If You Must Go” left these 4 walls… I may regret this one just as much.. especially as the flipside is another aching harmony ballad of the finest kind.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 565.00 Temptations Stay Simply sublime.. Click the sound file and let the Temptations waft you all the way to Soul Heaven! PS the more I listen to this masterpiece the more I regret listing it.. this tune can only go one way…and that is UP! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 299.00 Freddie Chavez They'll Never Know Why C/w Baby I'm Sorry A gleaming Mint - Northern Soul trophy still in it’s birth sleeve.. Christmas Present from the wife - or is that just too much to hope.. We suggest you drop a hint, as you’ll never see a another in better condition.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 824.00 Mikki Farrow Set My Heart At Ease C/w Could It Be In time for Christmas Dinner, a double helping of - PIED PIPER! In fact two plates full of fine Detroit dining… that will leave you patting your tummy with satisfaction. Topside carries every single ingredient of simmering Motor City Northern that we just love to lap up, a bubbling stew with an ear-piercing horn intro, a prompting bari-tone sax, choir bolstered chorus holding Mikki’s expressive vocal aloft, for a typically outstanding PIED PIPER creation, seasoned by a saxophone solo that is right up there with the finest I’ve ever heard… PIED PIPER rarely just offered one side of brilliance for us to feed upon..check out the flipside - and melt. Utterly lush example of what the team of Jack Ashford, Mike Terry and lyricist Mikki Farrow achieve with their meeting of the minds. I’ve said it before and I will continued to shout it from the rooftops if necessary PIED PIPER production team crafted the finest Detroit Music the last century ever witnessed. I love, no in fact I worship everything this gathering created.. This example being one of the very finest.. PS this is of course the seldom seen GENUINE ORIGINAL First press. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 615.00

  5. thanks for the total, but i think someone who had a few bob would pay a lot more than that to get the lot all in one go rather than spend years trying to find them all, joe.
  6. JUST THINKING or ( DREAMING ) IF YOU HAD A FULL SET OF SHRINE SINGLES TO SELL, WOULD YOU GET MORE SELLING THEM AS A SET OR ONE AT A TIME, AND WHAT SORT OF PRICE WOULD YOU BE EXPECTING FOR THE LOT. JOE

  8. Calvin Grayson Love Just Begun C/w You've Got To Be Willing Oakland’s Ricardo Lewis the man who gave us the timeless Eddie Foster - I Never Knew - produces Capitol recording artist with a reputation for the booming vocal style - attacks two Smith & Hines Soul compositions to create a double helping a RARE bay area Northern Soul! Top side was first played by the Cleethopes Pier’s leading innovator DJ “Poke” it was way ahead of it’s time, maybe a little too powerful for it’s own good, whilst “Rain - Out Of My Mind - was then the main floor-filler. But over the last 4 decades it’s reputation on the occasional plays has lifted this 45 to where it belongs - a highly sought, highly respect slab of NS. Click the soundfile to try and chose which side you like the best - listen carefully as this 45’s vinyl looks only VG but as you can hear plays totally superb. That is why I’ve used the contradicting grade of looks VG plays Excellent! A chance to own a real-BIGGIE under it’s value - maybe - if your lucky. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 866.00 Jesse Fisher Your Not Loving A Beginner Currently and deservedly enjoying a huge Northern Soul renaissance, fantastic to see real-deal SOUL dance tunes sharing the turntables with the over-done NS classics. Refresh your mind and catapult yourself back to Cleethorpes Pier, Blackpool Mecca when classic style Northern Soul rubbed shoulders with some truly superb mid-paced soul tunes. This being one of the very best of them.. Clevelander Jesse Fisher noted for the expressive sandpaper-honed vocal is guided by NS icon Mike Terry who’s roller-coaster arrangement lifts to it’s peak *NOTE: mispelt title “YOUR” instead of “YOU’RE” First press white label red text variation in just sublime flawless condition Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 98.00
  9. Edwin Starr Agent Double O Soul C/w Back Street The power of youth - the Soul Club goers of the late 60’s and early 70s sparked EMI on numerous occasions to release back catalog to meet the groundswell caused by DJ’s. In 1971 Tamla Motown UK issued their very first 45 pulled from the Ric Tic catalog. Before you today is a flawless “like new” DEMO of that release. If you seek only the finest possible condition whilst acquiring TMG DEMO’s then this is a 45 you will never have to upgrade. But if like many the lure of the Green & White demo is irresistible - we do have and EX+ / skrm copy on the website for perhaps a fraction of what this copy will achieve. CONDITION is EVERYTHING! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 76.00 Lovations Later Baby Get on at the ground floor! on this 1969 Washington, D. C. creation and the girls 2nd. release for the label. Although this disc has been known, talked about and highly regarded for literally decades - it is only recently, that a few DJ’s have lifted awareness of this stunning girl-group Northern Soul stroller with early doors turntable exposure which will slowly but surely blossom into full-blown dance-floor action. Take a listen and you’ll be asking why it’s took until 2012 for this luscious Cardell Eaton session to get the exposure it deserves. Sitting comfortably between solid Northern Soul and Crossover coolness. The young-girl lead vocal, is prompted by a strong chopping horn section and teammates who lift the hairs on your neck with there chirpy interventions. This is awesome! shame on me - shame on you for allowing such brilliance to sit on the subs-bench whilst clogging bloated skill-less music takes to the field of Northern Soul… The Lovations - get them on the pitch and change the game… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 420.00 Bobby Mac Shy Guy C/w How Was Your Weekend So very sought-after on two different Black-music scenes. Topside is finger-clicking Northern Soul delight, driven by full vocal group backing, strings and relentless easy to dance to tapping beat. A truly superb dance session that never received the NS attention it deserved, as this 45 suffers from extreme rarity; Mainly due to the 60s demand from vocal-harmony group collectors, hoovering the very few copies up for the beautiful Jimmy Conwell composed harmony flipside. Demand in Los Angeles was so strong for this stand-out ballad, a re-issue emerged in the 80s. Which then sparked awareness and a few Northern Soul spins. Here’s the rarely seen authentic 1964 ORIGINAL, expect competition from both sides of the pond… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 321.00 Bobby Paris Night Owl The Anthem To End All Anthems THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL! This PROMO copy is FLAWLESS perhaps unplayed before we lifted the soundile off this stunning condition NS classic Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 342.00
  10. H. Andrews Congregation Stop! Leave Me Alone C/w Chitlin Circuit Bay Area singer/writer/producer Harold Andrews made a significant contribution to Northern Soul - huge in fact - as all his records are rare. From The Inticers on Baby Luv tohis own Balance label recordings or his especially commissioned for Northern Soul by Bob Cateneo the magnificent “Since I Lost My Baby” on HLS, this guy could do no wrong. This disc underlines that statement as Harold presents perfect Soulful crossover on one side, then serves up a hunk-of-FUNK on the flipside. An unsung hero of street-level Soul who’s versatility knew no boundaries, this 45 showcases his talents perfectly. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 170.00 Wil Collins And Willpower Anything I Can Do In short .. The most-vibrant most-perfect 70s dance-offering the New York disco scene gave to Northern Soul.. Warning: Listen to at home, to avoid compulsive and ultimately embarrassing dancing at work.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 411.00 Uniques Not Too Long Ago Not only are you are viewing one of the “impossible” British release 60s Northern Soul 45s, you are also looking at a pristine 1965 UK DEMO of Joe Stampley’s dancefloor favourite. Although this 1965 Shreveport, Louisiana creation was a minor hit for Paula records upon it’s USA debut, in the UK it sold virtually nothing. In fact I can’t even remember the last time I saw a stock copy of this potent Northern Soul dancer. So, if your serious about hunting down the very-best-of-British this ultra-elusive 45 is right up there with the most-desirable. Remembering the condition could hardly be better. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 319.00 Lada Edmund Jr. The Larure C/w Soul Au Go Go SHRINE TIME! in it’s rarest format. Canadian BLACK Decca and how enticing does it look! A 1966 Eddie Singleton project that rocketed to Northern Soul Hall Of Fame 70s through Ian Levine & The Blackpool Mecca, The Torch, Catacombs and in fact all the pre-Wigan Casino all nighter this was one of the most-talked about, most danced to and obviously most-wanted 45s in the embryonic days of Northern Soul. I do remember actually witnessing one of these rarities in the Wigan Casino record bar circa 1975 - ownership was on my wish list for two decades after spying this alluring variation. Since 1975 I’ve only had the chance to sell this 45 in these clothes, twice in my life, ironically this is the same copy we auctioned back in February 2005. Incredibly RARE! If you like to boast ownership of the top flight NS classics in their very rarest form - do not pass by. Who knows the copy could even be the one I saw @ the Casino 37 years ago… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 444.00
  11. Chairmen Of The Board What's The Use ready 1, 2, - 1,2,3 - FOUR! General Johnson is about to blow you away and lifted someone’s DJ set into a Northern Soul legendary status… After hearing this the first time I was speechless - as visions of my 1970 Soul-Boy apprenticeship came flooding back - “Give Me Just A Little More Time” “You’ve Got Me Dangling On A String” catalysts that nailed me to a lifetime of soul. Recorded in those summer sessions of Detroit excellence when the Motown escapees Holland - Dozier - Holland joined forces with Ron Dunbar and under the pseudonym Edyth Wayne scouted the finest soul vocals available to launch the INVICTUS label. Amazingly this recording missed out on release and has laid undiscovered since 1970. We think you’ll agree this ACETATE has the potential to be THE TOP TUNE on the scene. Paradisaical Northern Soul that will knock em all dead… I’m still in shock.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 641.00 Tommy Neal Goin' To A Happening Hunters of the Northern Soul WHITE DEMO - we thought hey this is one you don’t see too often… Especially in condition that suggests it may have been cocooned all it’s live in a USA collection that didn’t appreciate the genius pairing of Richard Popcorn Wylie and Tony Hester. This vision of black & white vision of beauty is utterly PERFECT! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 119.00 Kelly St. Clair Hear That Beat Want to turn heads and shake-up a few vintage memories? The ex-Cleethoropes, St. Ives & Casino oldie is just so very elusive you just never hear it played anymore. Click the soundfile to enjoy blue-eyed girl Northern Soul at it’s best as this Pittsburgh lady belts out a punchy monumsntal slab of NS. This copy comers cmplete with an excruciating ad primitive artist picture sleeve manufactured by Millage Records, Pittsburgh with Kelly strangely hiding her face with her hand - did she have “British Teeth” ? Certainly didn’t hinfder her mighty vocal from shaking those pioneering clubs of the 70s. Today this is rarely seen for sale - with the “special” dental sleeve - NEVER! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 326.00 De-lites Lover C/w Tell Me Why Classic Cleethorpes Pier! Classic Wigan Casino! And a Northern Soul classic you just can’t tire of hearing. This is RARE vocal-group Northern Soul of the very highest calibre as New Yorkers Sonny Casella & Tommy Keith join forces and produce a vibrant lesson in 60s Soul dance. Interestingly Tommy & Sonny have huge pedigrees in Northern Soul - with Tommy Keith delighting us with his ultra-rare Walter Wilson disguise on Wand and Sonny Casella the driving force behind the Dooley Silverspoon “Game Players” So two men with a penchant for upbeat driving soul put together one of the cornerstones of our sound. Rare in the extreme, so desirable and this is pristine in every respect. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,514.00

The kettle-drum intro always ignites a charge to the dancefloor and has done since the 70s when this was NS Anthem simultaneously at Wigan Casino & Cleethorpes Pier. There are few Northern Soul turntable choices that universally gather up a larger Soul-Swarm than “Holly” does. DJ’s you’ll never “lose” a floor again, just tickle Holly with the stylus - they’ll come running back… Before you today is a pristine copy still retaining it’s “birth” sleeve with the label stamped with the received date. Immaculate… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 863.00 Brenda Holloway Together 'til The End Of Time C/w Sad Song There has been much said and written about the exploits of Frank Wilson, Marc Gordon and Hal Davis in Los Angeles, crafting some of the finest 60s soul-dance music ever made. Let’s now consider another side to this skilled trio and the California songbird they lifted from obscurity to Motown Diva status. This 1965 British TMG 556 showcases the art of the soul ballad perfectly. With Brenda’s outpourings perfecting embroidered within two precise productions. This is arguably Brenda’s least known Tamla 45 but quite easily her most soulful. Step aside all Motown Sisters - I can think of none who can hold a light to this lady’s controlled, expressive and emotional delivery that sends shivers down your back… This 1965 UK 45 is in the type of consider where you’ll never consider looking for an upgrade. This fits just nicely - Sir… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 210.00 M'taboo Losing Your Love A near unpronounceable artist name and a label i’ve never come across before make this one hell of an obscure 70s winner without even a listen. My suspicions are this incredibly rare 45 comes from New Hampshire, not a place you think of whilst searching for rare soul. So click the sound file to reveal a 45 bristling with potential on the in-vogue jazz/funk slated scene that’s welcoming sounds with a difference. Infectious one one play, utterly contagious after 3.. Sorry, this item has already been won! It hails from Texas’s hotbed for independent 60s music - San Antonio has given the soul scene so many colourful, weird & rare creations to chase over the years and here is yet another to add to the list. Top side is an unusual slab of Texas Northern Soul, flip is an equally different a Deep Soul ballad. The Northern Soul dragnet has missed one, rarity completely assured, along with everlasting label beauty! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 84.00

  18. Van Dykes What Will I Do (if I Lose You) C/w I've Got To Go On Without You Even with all the 60s Soul fanzines and release sheets, this awesome vocal-group winner was missed by everyone at the time. Remaining today as one of the most difficult of Stateside’s to acquire in fine condition. Perhaps because the dance side was the flip of an unfashionable at the time, harmony ballad. Check out the soundfile and enjoy the collaboration of Rondalis L. Tandy & Charles Stewart the driving force behind this gathering of talent. Topside is a strong dance tune I rate second only to their last record the magnificent “Save My Love For A Rainy Day”. Flipping it over you’ll experience what this 3 man team were really all about - top-of-the-tree harmonies matched by few other soul trios of the 60s. Two superb sides… Do check out all of Rondalis L. Tandy, Wenzon Mosley & James Mays recordings, they only had 7 45 and 1 album but for me everything they crafted is outstanding SOUL! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 67.00 Dee Dee Sharp Standing In The Need Of Love C/w I Really Love You Even back in 1965 Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff were showing skills ahead of the time. Check out this double helping of Philadelphia Northern Soul - both sides just epitomize the sound. Topside was a hugely popular Twisted Wheel classic that has endured the test of time and is still today a popular dancefloor filler. The slightly slower flipside has over the decades gain a cult following and right so. A killer mid-tempo from the pen of Jimmy Bishop & Kenny Gamble, arranged by the prolific Joe Renzetti & produced by Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff. Today for me this is the side for a DJing renaissance just a perfect Northern Soul down-beat moment. Before of course is the tricky to acquire 1965 UK press is sublime flawless condition. 19. Fiats Speak Words Of Love I defy you to listen and not be drawn into an overwhelming desire for ownership. This is DETROIT vocal-group Northern Soul at it’s most-endearing. A tightly constructed harmony is molded by Dale Warren, as the gathering weld the lyrics into a sheet of pure soulful delight. A seamless experience of different vocal-pitches weaving into flowing wall of sound. It’s mid-tempo arrangement inducing a gentle swaying as you listen - a sure sign for a dancefloor winner.. Then a stroke a genius Dale Warren adds an “Ealing Studio” style string section for the backing. For Detroit this is a refreshing change from the Motownesque production.. Simplistic but totally addictive… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 71.00 Magictones How Can I Forgot You C/w Me And My Baby Eight Wheelsville releases earlier “Me And My Baby” backed up the fine “Gotta Get A Little Closer” on this disc it’s backs the Magictones finest and most elusive Northern Soul offering. This 45 just screams DETROIT as Dale Warren & William Garrett inject every aspect of the Motor City Sound we adore. Blaring horn intro, is met head-on by an expressive lead vocal (Tyrone Douglas) the pumping horns are soothed by a mixture of male & female vocal-group chorus that soar hauntingly high above. The very special backing elevates this song to greatness, as the vocal reaches its crescendo and the horns just “give it all”. This is DETROIT at it’s very best and why this hasn’t reached the value of some other inferior and in fact commoner Detroit NS delights is a mystery. Listen, we think this mixed group have made something rather special - that the masses have so far been deprived of. Top quality tune - and totally undervalued… by DJ’s, Collectors and most of all ME! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 133.00 Lyrics Keep Me Close To Your Heart C/w You'll Always Beon J. W. J. stands for Johnson-Wright-Johnson a D.I.Y. project from the tiny Michigan hamlet of Allegan. They don’t come any obscurer than this 45, which I can’t remember the last time we had this disc for sale. Superb vocal group offering, primitive and alluring. Muted saxophone assists the vocal inter-changes as Johnson - Wright - Johnson take turns in being the lead vocal. A swirling hammond lifts the sparse production with the saxophonist persistently pumping away…but it’s the local vocals that steal the show.. from a village of less than 3,000 in the mid-60s we think this a pretty impressive… Rare in the extreme… Sorry, this item has already been won! 21. Sheepherders With Bubba Bailey If Ever You Need Me You are viewing a record that only a handful of collectors on the planet seen in the flesh and even less have owned. Spectacular hammond driven Norfolk, Virginia Northern Soul from the strangest named group on the Northern Soul scene. Strange the name may be, but there’s nothing strange about the lead vocalists prowess or the potent brass interruptions or the ear-piercing vocal-group chorus. THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL - DISTILLED! into RAREST OF THE RARE!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,142.00 Kitty And Her Kats Tell Me Pretty Baby A listing the vinyl-curious who look past the obvious, and Fabulously smooth sixties girl-group vocal harmony ballad that we just adore. COULEE a small town Wisconsin label has made quite a name for itself, from being a vehicle for so many local artists covering most-every conceivable form of music from 60s Garage, Country, Rockabilly to Teen; you name it they probably pressed - but only in ridiculously tiny quantities. A local outlet for aspiring stars… but very little if any could be classified as Soul other than an obscure harmony groove from the STUDEBAKER “7” this delight your about to hear is the only other soul 45 we have listed on this cult-label. RARE in the extreme and just brimming with skilled harmony and emotion. A top drawer 45 in it’s genre. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 151.00 Eskew (esque-rita) Reeder You Better Believe Me WARNING do not try and dance to this record unless a fully-experienced Northern Soul show-off. Buckle up - “Ice Road Truckers” could not handle this high-speed, adrenaline fueled out-of-control juggernaut of Northern Soul! A crazed Los Angeles creation for the NS gymnastic or the amphetamine inspired mover…as Eskew takes his vocal to limits has he chases Arthur Wright’s outrageous arrangement… Does Northern Soul get any punchier than this? We think not.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 296.00 Four Tops What You Gonna Do With Me Baby It is a rare event indeed, for the opportunity to own a Four Tops recording that never achieved 45 or Album track release. So when it carries every element of Motown excellence that lifted this quartet to worldwide admiration - this is not a chance to pass by. Click the sound file and prepare to be inspired by an “Ask The Lonely” style mid-tempo masterpiece that the Tops just effortlessly float through. Understated trumpets and strings build the atmosphere as a backing chorus add a sharp edge to this dreamy session. This 2:45 minute long Motown 10” studio drips with provenance; dated May 12Th. 1966 take CCMN-2598-NHDD + 8.00. Has board-meeting notes Stated Lead vocal is incoherent and string need to be stronger - underlining Motown’s board constantly striving for perfection (to my ears it sounds just great!). In a year when the The Tops invaded the charts with “Reach Out I’ll Be There” “Shake Me Wake Me (When It’s Over)” “Loving You Is Sweet Than Ever” “St anding In The Shadows Of Love” you can forgive this beauty may have just slipped by without a re-cut of the session. Unique, historic and totally essential to anyone serious about Motown, Northern Soul or unique world one-offs. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 336.00
