  1. Krush (hey Bro.) Hang Tough Just how many Northern Soul offerings come from the USA state of Hawaii? Certainly very few, so with haste, check out this stupidly rare uplifting modern soul dancer. Feel-good production gives up a strong lead vocal, supported by a vocal group chorus and a full instrumental accompaniment providing the perfect dance arrangement. Rhythmic, joyous and totally infectious dance tune and of course stupidly obscure. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 116.00 Malcolm Hayes Searchin' For My Baby C/w She's The One I Love An explosive drum roll collides with horns and Malcolm Hayes's muscular vocal delivering a mighty uptempo choppy, changey proper full-on Northern Soul. The compulsory screaming girl-group for those real-deal NS dancers are there in full voice! All the components fuse into a Tsunami of sound, incessant, compelling and potent stuff that will leave you not only breathless but also wondering why this killer is not a Northern Soul trophy..as this is no easy find. If the a-side is not enough to send you scampering for the mouse, check out the mid-tempo flipside that is also a cool-tune. But to be honest totally pales in comparison to the runaway dancefloor steamroller of an a-side. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 109.00 Wilee Mcewen Hello Darling R&B GUYS! Tell me of a record with more NS POTENCY than this hideously obscure &muscular Hollywood creation. From the first note this floor-destroyer just rips up everything in it's path. Angry drums, blaring horns are out-stripped by the snarling of Wilee McEwan vocal on his relentless single-minded journey to dance-hall destruction. In the right hands this could rise to be a MONSTER, only the lack of DJ action has prevented this obvious R&B Barbarian from invading the most-wanted charts. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 97.00 Mongo Santamaria El Pussy Cat C/w Black Eyed Peas & Rice 1965 British press, that all British Soul students will confirm is one of if notTHE toughest CBS to secure. So it will come as no surprise that not only is it a raresoulman auction debutant but also the first copy we've had in the last 15 years. Infectious Latin / Mod / Boo-ga-loo Northern Soul dance tune that has been a popular turntable choice from the 1964 USA Columbia 43171 for decades. As this CBS 201766, few collectors or DJs can boast of owning. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 57.00
  2. Sweet Pearl You Mean Everything To Me C/w While We Are Together If any city was gonna resist the 80s trend of moving away from real instruments for the dreaded synthesizer, it was Memphis; a city who's streets seemed to be littered with talented horn blowers & bass guitarists by the dozen. So how refreshing, in fact totally gratifying to encounter this 1981 sublime Bluff City double hitter. You are about to listen to exactly the reason we all love soul in the first place. Gentle guitar opens for classy fluid horns to set the tone for a beautifully delivered Soul Sister vocal crafting a Soulful-stepper of the highest quality. Dreamy, sultry sexy soul just perfect for devotees of Soul Essence or The Orwell atmosphere. Flip it over for a "Summer In the Parks" paced 80s runaway-train rhythm full-on dancer. Frantically full of all the ingredients required to build a funk based dance 80s dance tune whilst still retaining all the soulful aspects of the mid-paced a-side. Its an awesome double-delight and of course a current play for the upfront rare-soul DJ choice. . Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 304.00 Luvs We Kiss In The Shadows C/w You Used To Be Crate digging for vinyl is a sickness, like an housewife, you can sometimes wonder why am I on my hands and knees for so little reward? My brief trip to the East Coast recently I found my addiction for scrambling through 45s had not left me, the vinyl-addictiveness came back with a vengeance. I dug for an hour or two with discouraging sparse results. Then like most of us have down from time to time, a gem emerges from mediocrity. To my astonishment I found this girl-group trophy in MINTunplayed condition. Two records later a Trade Martin on Stallion widened my eyes, again totally Mint. So feast your eyes on this lucky moment I'm sharing with you, 60s girl group records do not come much rarer but in MINT it's an extremely Rare 45 indeed. As is Trade Martin, these two gave me my fix until i next see the next box of jumbled up 45... then with no shame I'll be on my hands and knees again... Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 40.00 Jean Banks Jailer Right down and dirty Popcorn Northern Soul! A thoroughly moody Popcorn R&B flavoured 60s groove! So very atmospheric, waiting for an exclusive dark-steamy club experience! Hideously RARE and obscure Soulville USA production by Dino E. Courreay assisted by Samuel Williams Sr. Exactly who are they? This ridiculously rare 45 carries huge potential for the DJ who grinds out obscurities for atmospheric effect! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 267.00 Apple & Three Oranges True Love Will Never Die C/w Down Home Publicity Soul-vinyl archeologists of Los Angeles have extolled to extreme skills of this Edward Nelson harmony group for decades, with only ever a sparse example of his outstanding group's work coming to light. Of the three of their utterly rare "Sagittarius" 45s this one gives up an exquisite vocal-harmony experience backed with a "Hunk Of Funk" a floating saxophone intro supports a rap intro then slowly but surely the vocal backup get to work on pulling you into a sublimely soulful experience. Then "Apple" stretches his vocal-chords a little and a divine soul session is taking shape! Harmony ballads DO NOT get any better than this.... Flip it over and this gathering flex there musical talent on a street level Los Angeles FUNK! Wow, what a soul band these guys were...go check out everything they created! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 249.00
  3. Major Burkes Break These Chains C/w Who Was The Fool One of two 45s this Austin Texas based Soul Man recorded for Bill Quinn's Houston label. Both 45s are full on Texas Northern Soul backed with suicidal despairing Deep Soul ballads of the highest calibre. Major plagiarizes Darrell Banks's timeless "Open The Door To Your Heart" for the Northern Soul side, writing different and highly effective lyrics, retaining the signature DB horn riffs pace, thus creating a fabulous mid-pace Northern Soul dancer elevated by this Texans ear-piercing vocal. Flip it over the mood fall into an abyss of desperation, his pleading vocalreaching out through a funeral style hammond and horns... Two fabulous examples of street-level Texas soul delivered by a man, who feels every note! This offering has perfect vinyl & labels! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 356.00 O. V. Wright What Did You Tell This Girl Of Mine C/w What About You So MINT we are using the soundfile from the 1967 Back Beat 586 release. This gleaming as new SUE 4043 press is perhaps unplayed! Having said that the main reason for the listing is 3 fold. 1. Condition 2. It's a seldom seen SUE # with huge rarity credibility. 3. It has a flipside that every most-every Northern Soul fan has missed. "What Did You Tell This Girl Of Mine" is awesome Texas Northern Soul, a solid proper standout dancer of real substance. The flip is as you'd expect from O. V. is a funeral paced Deep Soul ballad, a mood changing few minutes of the hurting-kind. If you like your British 45 perfectionist, who lives for that awe inspiring moment, of spying sparse sprinkling of fine dust on the vinyl, that tells you this has never been out of it's jacket in a age. This record is for you. PERFECT and offering to outrageous SOUL recordings in it's rarest form. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 258.00 Major Lance You Don't Want Me No More C/w Wait Till I Get You In My Arms Above all 45s this historic piece is considered the "Anthem" of Stoke's Golden Torch - the NS shrine, that on a cold and miserable night of Dec. 9th. 1972 a steaming-sweating standing room only crowd paid homage to this great man, an event that to this day is universally consider Northern Soul's greatest happening. Of all his Okeh recordings this one held it's mystic for over 4 decades as unlike his other classics it never got issued in Britain, and ironically is more "Northern" than any of his sessions. Before you today is an impeccable PROMO bristling with all the same seductive charm that it would have had, sitting in a 50 count carry case 40 years before. A timeless NS piece of the very highest calibre... Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 336.00 Tamala Lewis You Won't Say Nothing C/w If You Can Stand Me Comfortably sitting right in the TOP TEN all-time rarest of the rare - most wanted girl vocal Northern Soul 45s ever made. A click of the soundfile will reveal why this 45 is considered a huge Northern Soul trophy piece with few equals in it's genre. George Clinton, Fuzzy Haskins & Ernie Harris craft another mid-60s masterpiece a few years before they left on their spaceship, which I consider their finest achievement in their long and controversial career. Condition of labels and both vinyls are impeccable. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,014.00

  6. a good price for the drifters imo. what price a uk issue or demo joe.
  7. Tom Jones Chills And Fever The 24 year old man the the valleys belts out a booming floorshaker. Sir Thomas John Woodward's most-wanted, least seen Northern Soul offering from early 1964 - killer Big Vocal - Big Production Northern Soul that seldom turns up for sale, especially as an immaculate USA press complete with birth-sleeve. Note: * this 1965 USA release uses the original 304 Holloway Road Studio Joe Meek mix before Tom signed for UK Decca, his later Decca F11966 fails to provide the trademark "RGM Sound" the unique approach to recording that reverberated around that now iconic three story flat. *extra info courtesy of Tim Fuller. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 58.00 Maxine Brown One Step At A Time C/w Anytime For A Laugh Take the Soul Princess of New York give her a song composed by a young writing trio making a name for themselves, and put it before the uncompromising production skills of Luther Dixon and his team. The result is a punchy attitude driven Northern Soul beater lead by a shrill girl group back up with Maxine purring the lyrics like the Soul-Lioness she is. Ed Martin's arrangement of the girls in the pride lifts the whole production another notch, is only bettered by Stan Green's skill in pulling all the elements together If you want to own this stunning Nick Ashford,Valerie Simpson & Joshie Jo Armstead creation.. A flawless 1965 British DEMO is the ultimate format. What a tune! and what a looker! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 128.00 Marv Johnson More Marv Johnson Akin to the "Tutankhamun of vinyl" In1960 shrink wrap was not part of the United Artists processing procedure. But loose fitting sealed poly-sleeve was. You are witnessing a very important milestone in the development of Berry Gordy & the Motown label. This extremely RARE STEREO copy of Marv Johnson 1960 album is STILL SEALED after fully 52 years. Check the scan to admire the beginnings of not only MOTOWN but also the process of sending albums to shops encased in a thin polythene bag. Perfectionist, addicts of the rare & wonderful and of course the MOTOWNcollectors this is an offering you most likely will never see again. Note: soundfile has been lifted from an opened copy, this album will arrive at your home still wrapped, revealing a pristine copy inside if you open it. Or if your very wise you will leave it sealed, for it to grow in value... Just how many "still Sealed" copies of this album can there be left in the world today... Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 270.00
  8. Sonny Smith Super Spook C/w Go'on With Your Bad Self Rare New York FUNK double-hitter Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 77.00 Johnny Summers I'm Still Yours A gorgeous gloss-finish paper label, vinyl press PROMO! Of this Los Angeles Miles Grayson arranged Northern Soul rarity! Click the soundfile and prepare to be haunted all day by this "Creep under your skin" production. Penetrative horns, moody lead vocal, decorated by a soaring girl chorus, lifting the whole session into NS greatness. Do try and check out everything this artist has recorded, you'll discover every one is a total premiership Northern Soul 45. What a shame he only did a total of three 45s, all of which are decidedly awesome... Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 320.00 Willie Picket On The Stage Of Life Are you in the mood for something very special? Written, arranged & produced by Willie Pickett, this D.I.Y. adventure just seeps soul in such copious amounts we guarantee you state of mind will be moved. Black poetry embroidered into a flowing string propelled production. Only the likes of Darrow Fletcher have mustered more emotion into a dance record...this is utterly brilliant, at the risk of repeating myself,UTTERLY BRILLIANT... Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 377.00 Wayne Boling Girl I Like To Dance With You Incredibly rare Manship auction debutant! Superb horn propelled D.I.Y. Fort Worth, Texas project written by Wayne Boling himself. This record has suffered from it's own extreme rarity as so few copiers are known this belting slab of Northern Soul has never received the exposure is so much-deserves. Tex-Mex brass relentlessly pumps away with intricate guitar work adding the class. Perhaps Major Lance inspired as the familiar Okeh-esque horn riffs create an instant dancefloor incitements. Wayne himself projects a strong expressive vocal that just skips through this vibrant production. Hey this is wonderful stuff, solid proper-real deal rarity delivering everything required. Just begging for the DJ who wants to be different! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 112.00
  9. Shaddows Together Again The perfect example of how the Northern Soul DJ exposure dictates the value of rare records. This Youngstown, Ohio super-obscurity to me is every note as good as, say, The Nomads, Antellects, Soul Brothers Inc. etc. etc. So obscure is this "custom" press, they didn't even credit the song with writers. So check out this seamless 60s male vocal group dancer, it will reveal perfect Northern Soul that has been sadly neglected by the top flight DJ's. Consider the value if this got the exposure records of this quality deserve. Or if you strive to own the very finest Northern Soul records for private listening and admiration in your record den ...they don't come any better than this. An impressive obscurity that will surely have it's day. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 255.00 The Temptations My Girl Motown scholars will know all to well that this picture sleeve is one of the really tough ones to acquire. But more importantly, of the very few examples of this extra i've seen during my career have all had varying levels of wear. The nature of black and white picture sleeve is they do easily suffer ring wear. As you can see from the scan this Picture Sleeve has no wear what so ever, just a light crease bottom left corner. This is such a fine example even the top opening edges are as sharp as a razor. Motown Picture sleeves are so desirable and we doubt if you'll find a finer copy of this extremely elusive one. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 51.00 Yvonne Baker You Didn't Say A Word East Coast vinyl press PROMO copy in the type of condition you'll want to hug. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 455.00 Marvin Gaye I'll Be Doggone C/w You've Been A Long Time Coming Personally one of my all-time favourite Motown Records and one of Marvin's finest offerings to the Northern Soul scene. Having said that, this is not a record you hear very often,, anywhere. Take a refreshing listen at perhaps the most-under-played Motown dancer, that you just know will spark a favourable reaction with murmers of "not heard this in a age" delight. Perched perfectly for a renaissance and today your looking at a stunning show-off piece ready for turntable action. But wait a second, this copy is in near pristine condition, two -perfect labels, flawless vinyl and still retaining it's original birth sleeve. Wiser to buy a USApress and own this format, just to make your fellow collectors turn green. Red n' Whites.... just irresistible are they not. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 126.00
  10. Heart and Soul Jimmy Ricks Oh! What A Feeling A totally pristine copy of the highly-covet multi-coloured VINYLpress PROMO! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 408.00 Drifters Drip Drop Anything 54 years old and looking like new, is there to be admired. This 1958USA press is so very not used. Only one light sleeve contact brush on the a-side vinyl gives away any sign of human contact. B-side vinyl is "as new" Obviously you'd have thought this 45 is on auction because it's a huge, huge Northern Soul current spin. But for me it's the astonishing condition that lifts this up another level. Perfectionists you will not be disappointed. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 132.00 Frankie Beverly & The Butlers Because Of My Heart C/w I Want To Feel I'm Wanted Rightly considered by most-everyone as the greatest double-hitter 45 ever crafted for the Northern Soul collector to pursue. This 1966 Philadelphia creation carries a level of reputation and adoring fan base few records can match. just click the soundfile and witness Northern Soul at it's very, very best. Vinyl has some light surface marks, check the impressive double soundfile lifted directly of this highly respected disc. I think you'll agree Northern Soul does not get any better than this! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,044.00 Travis Wammack Scratchy A 1964 Memphis session that crossed the ocean to sell, nothing upon release. But would quickly rise to Northern Soul cult status. Little wonder though, to the outsider, the mysterious world of Northern Soul is a bit of a puzzler. Travis Wammack 1965 trip into Soul collides with Garage, Latin & Psyche, creating as unique an instrumental could ever be. One reason why this was not only a Twisted Wheel MONSTER but carried on all through the 70s as a Northern Soul oldies spin. Such was the demand, "Scratchy" was bootlegged numerous times on the replicated ARA label. An infectious stand-alone instrumental that is impossible to compare with any other Northern Soul classic 45. Today this listing displays the summit of it's format. An eye-popping Mint - 1965 UK Atlantic DEMO! Just beautiful.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 97.00
  11. I AGREE, HARDLY ANYONE SELLING T-SHIRTS ETC, AND LOADS OF PEOPLE SELLING RECORDS, THE LAST ONE WAS THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE, WERE THEY CHARGING TOO MUCH FOR TABLES OR PEOPLE JUST NOT BUYING RECORDS ANYMORE ???. JOE.
  12. ronnie milsap by a mile for me from all the other's imo, played it a lot in the wheel when i first started going in 66
  13. Al Williams I Am Nothing C/w Brand New Love The genius of Bridges - Eaton - Knight captured forever on this 1979 pre-release RCA studio 10" acetate - just how neat is that! We think the eyebrow raising RCA London WC1 label will cause as much-conversation as, the music causes hustle and bustle for dancefloor space every time this pinnacle of Detroit Northern Soul is played. This a a all-time first for us - we've never had any of the Grapevine label studio cuts before - as you can hear the sound fidelity is as you'd expect with a direct cut - totally impeccable. This acetate cut exclusively for 1980 Grapevine #136 release. and I don't mind admitting being a "UK NS artifact" freak - this 10" in all it's glory is a little spine-tingling. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 257.00
  14. Jessica James & The Outlaws Come Closer C/w Give Her Up (baby) The Jersey Boys at work, crafting a moody, haunting mid-paced masterpiece that has lived in the shadows of "We'll Be Making Out" for far too long. I prefer this NS stroller from the shrill voice of Miss James written and arranged by the prolific partnership of Bob Guadio & Charles Calello with Bob Crewe according to labels credits having a rare day off. Take a listen this her 2nd. 45 for the team, more in keeping with today's Northern Soul scene. A NS stroller that benefits from Charlie Calello compulsory "Kitchen-sink" arrangement with all manner of instruments in the backing track and a mixed choir chorus forming a rich platform of sound for Jessica's young-girl vocal to embroider her magic. Beautiful stuff !! Switch sides and the gathering gets bigger as the pace and the sound ratchets up but loses none of the power, in fact this side is a tidal wave of girls, cymbals & horns. FANTASTIC! Two killer sides from the Four Seasons production team, and perhaps the rarest 45 on the label and a flawless copy, of course. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 42.00 Various Artists The Motortown Revue Flawless 1965 UK mono press, with perfect labels, impeccable vinyl, originalEMI poly-lined inner sleeve. Front and back cover could hardly be in finer condition. This is the rare 7th. album to be issued on the label, documenting without any electronic trickery Motown's 1964 live performance @ Fox Theatre, Detroit for the Mayor and eager fans of their home town. M. C. Motor City's premier master of ceremonies Bill Murray & 7 different acts capture the Motor Sound and it's effect on it's fans and how proud they are over Berry Gordy's astonishing achievements. An historic piece recording the very essence of that unforgettable evening in 1964. As the UK press you won't need us to remind you how rare it is - and in this perfect condition - virtually impossible! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 418.00
  15. Dave Newman Soul Thing C/w Let The Good Times Roll To the Brit-Soul student the name Keith Mansfield was synonymous with "soul" throughout the 60s and early 70s his name crops up on all manner of 45s with a large percentage being inspired by mix of R&B/Jazz & Soul. This 45 offers up two styles, "Soul Thing" is exactly that, a theme where you can imagine Go-Go dancers doing the "Jerk" in some London Cellar club with Lambetta's lined up outside - yes, this instrumental encapsulates the "Smoke's" music mood of 1968. Flipside is an instrumental of the then current all-night-club Monster by Bunny Sigler. A runway-truck rhythm delivers Northern Soul at it's most powerful. For those of you who haven't noted the significance of this disc - if is THEORIGINAL 1968 promo on DECCA 12795. This 45 was re-issued by Decca on # F13041 in 1970 with a 2nd. attempt to catch the All-Night scenes ears. This is the rarely seen original 1968 DEMO in flawless condition, which the long-term British collector will fully appreciate. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 113.00 Miracles My Girl Has Gone C/w Since You Won My Heart The lure of the Red & White British Tamla Motown Demo. Even after all these years, I find nothing quite as beautiful. TMG 540 is a team-Miracles effort led of course my Smokey. Click the soundfile and enjoy these master-craftsmen at work. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 137.00 Willpower Soul Finger Talking of Mr. Dynamite - Sh'Mon - and the way it took the MOD scene by storm in the early 80s, check this ridiculously rare Australian ONLYcandidate for the next MOD Monster. Just so there's no dispute between the Liverpool or the London scooter-boys get in there first!! "Soul Finger" although inspired and writers credited to the Bar-Kays; this obscure Australian band - deconstruct the classic, mix it up and spew out an almighty version with many twists & turns away from the original.. The result is a monster brass instrumental saturated in all the ingredients forMOD cult status. Click the sound file & stand back and consider the consequences of this colliding into a dancehall full of MODS. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 36.00 Jerry Jackson Wide Awake In A Dream It is not a coincidence that we are again raving about the talents of Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio, other than their world renowned work with Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. The team also made some masterpieces with lesser known artists, Jessica James for example and this most-magnificent 1962 Jerry Jackson session. "Wide Awake In A Dream" is special, no matter who sings it. But if you'd like to hear something extraordinarily special, listen to Jerry Jackson croon his way into you heart forever. AWESOME! Of cause this listing is awesome for one other reason too, BLACK STOCKcopy in immaculate condition is very special also. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 100.00
  16. James Knight & The Butlers There Goes My Baby C/w Instrumental Version A monster spin for the Godfather Of Northern Soul - Soul Sam currently championing the lightly infused funk dance tunes. James Knight takes the 1959 Drifters classic, and makes it all-but unrecognizable. As he and the Bulters ad-lib extra lyrics, into by Nelson, Patterson & Treadwell's composition woven into a Tex-Mex horn section. Barnfather a perpetual ground-breaker of not only rare records but also NS-club-trends. This rarity is yet another testament to this great man's DJ talents and highly honed knack of instinctively spoting a future top tune. Take a listen to this unusual mix of 50s classic & funky over-the-border presentation. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 183.00 Lee Harvey My Assurance Mel Alexander was responsible for many Compton, California Northern soul offerings. This one carries that smooth big vocal style, laced with horns that the followers of the "Stafford" style sound find irresistible. Los Angeles doyens of the production-room James Carmichael & Willie Gresham join Mel on this session guiding the subtle horns to prompt Lee Harvey's purring tonsils from an effortless growl, elevated into a mighty drone at exactly the right times. Some talent Mr. Harvey was and also Mel Alexander currently an unsung hero of street-level L.A. Northern Soul. Check out Lee's follow up to this winner, on Kris 105 two sides that we feel offer one of the best value Northern Soul 45s possible. In comparison, Kris 104 to Kris 105 is perhaps 500 times rarer...and some awesome NS tune, this is too. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 111.00 Mark V Time (waits For No One) C/w Theere Is A Difference The label reads FINE-TUNED and this certainly is. Vocal group & stepper fans will be melting as this seeps from their speakers. A precisely built mid-tempo groove involving some of the finest vocal; harmonies I've had the pleasure of in recent times. The a-side will sit comfortably in both the ballad & the dance camps, as it jogs along drenched in class & emotion, so beautifully emitted by this highly accomplish group. Flip it over the pace jumps a notch, for the group to slide into dance-mood, but still retaining that tight n' together, inter-changing lead vocals with ease with this carpet of harmony enriching the background. Two sides that just ooze quality and rarity in equal proportions. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 108.00 Fame Gang Turn My Chicken Loose C/w Twngin' My Thing Rick Hall and staff built a reputation second yo none for outstanding productions; The Fame studios and the Muscle Shoals sound became synonymous with fine Soul. So much so, artists traveled from all over the world to be recorded there. In 1969 the revered session band "Memphis Horns" left for Cotillion. Ouch! you'd have thought, but no, such was the depth of talent the FAME GANGgot to jamming, and something just a good happened, and another mighty studio backing band was born. This is a 1970 Promo 45 that just gives up THE FUNK. Produced by blue-eyed soul-hero Mickey Buckins maybe wisely just let that jam go.... Both sides offer superb Funk, although the label is world Famous this 45 is obscure and very elusive! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 66.00
  17. Freddie South Set Me Free (to Love My Woman) C/w I'll Be Watching Over You Allegedly only a two copy known record. We never like to put numbers on known copies - because it's always only a partly-informed assumption. What we can say without fear of contradiction is that this obscure Nashville indie is absolutely Dog-rare and an outstanding example of Rare-Soul BOTH sides. Top side is a heart-stopping Northern Soul dancer backed by a full-vocal-group chorus. A beautifully constructed instantly fresh, vibrant, soulful and absolutely awesome tune...the glaring potential just oozes from every note. If you think the a-side showcases Freddie South's tortured soulful vocal - the flipside will have you searching for other superlatives as he serves us with a ballad of immense emotion with those uncredited guys soothing his harrowing vocal. Two Top Drawer Sides of pure class and extreme rarity! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,988.00 Donna King Take Me Home C/w Bless His Heart First brought to the attention of the British soul fan in a brief early 70s review by Dave Godin in his legendary Blues & Soul column, within it, he hinted that Donna may have used a "dirty-word" in the lyrics. As you can imagine we all needed to hear this girls "Dirty Talk". It was not until the "Dallas, Texas Bookshop" find of "Dover" records load, that I and many others got to chance to scrutinized this 45 that shot from obscurity to the biggest girl sound in Britain in 1978. There was no "dirty word" to be found - but within this horn-filled journey there is perhaps the most defiant young-girl testament to a lady's honor ever made. The mix of the brass musical arrangement and Donna spitting out Roger Washington's lyrics is totally compelling. Click the soundfile for Miss King to "Take You Home"..back home to the Cleethorpes Pier & Wigan Casino at a time when queues were 5 wide and near 100 yards long. "No Pushing At The Back" those Casino bouncer's words are nearly as memorable as Donna King regurgitating... You Think Your Gonna Use Me For Kicks But I Hip To Your Playboy Tricks Just Because We're All Alone I don't Need A Chaperoned I Can See Your Intentions are wrong Take Me Home...Take Me Home..Take Me Home.. Take Me Home..Take Me Home ..with utter authority. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,433.00 Mr. Dynamite Sh' Mon Part 1 & 2 One of THE top SUE 45s. Soul on SUE does not come any more in-demand than this floor destroyer! Rumored to be James Brown himself, considering Chris Blackwell's use of Chris Farlowe vocal and crediting it as Little Joe Cook, who knows the mysterious workings behind the doors at Island Records I can see where that rumored may have come about JB's 1964 London LP "Pure Dynamite"; but no this is NOT James Brown although totally inspired by him and the like, it's The British Walkers who vocally can't touch the mighty JB, but instrumentally they whip up a frantic torrent of horns prompting the lead singer's JB-esque squeals and snarls. A MOD classic of Gargantuan proportions - a 1966 dance tune on Britain's most-coveted labels, with no equals! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 409.00 Jades I'm Where It's At C/w Mother's Only Daughter So very WiganCasino! Right at the very heart of the scene, the pinnacle time of all the great sound flooding over from Los Angeles from Simon Soussan directly to the DJ of The Casino. Every other club in the land played it, but the burning memory for me was the unison hand-clapping sparked off by this Anthem, and peering down from the balcony at the sea of hands held aloft. Well, that's the memory it sparks for me, I'm sure someone else will have a totally different but just as fond one. This disc, in this century rarely comes to market. This example is a lovely clean PROMO copy - on my bucket list is the dream of seeing a GREEN Stock copy. Dream on Manship dream on... Sorry, this item has already been won! 22. Motown Appreciation Society July 1965 Hitsville U.s.a. Volume 1 Edition 7 Continuing our listing of the highly-sought after Motown Appreciation Society booklets so lovingly compiled by Dave Godin and team during the early-mid 60s. All this series stands as a lasting reference for the Soul/Motown & MODsleuth looking for the reality of 60s British music & club scene. This is issue 7 from July 1965 Documenting: Motown Night @ The Harrow Inn, Abbey Wood where The Marvelettes where taken there by Dave Godin for a 2 hour stint they talked, signed autographs & then to the delight of the fans they "mimed" to their records. DJ Pete Murray is slated for his comments on Juke Box Jury "All Motown Records Sound The Same" Dear Swinger & friend - Dave Godins now famous column Time Magazine's - Looks At Rock Roll 3 page article is replicated Commarisons of Liverpool to Detroit in an editorial by Malcolm Harrison 2 page Bio of Carla Thomas includes artist pic 3 1/2 page report on Detroit Page of News & comment mostly about Motown, but all about Soul. And perhaps most-important in this issue is references MUSIC CITY of Berkeley, DJ, producer and record shop owner RAY DOBARD alleged comments of the plagiarizing British copying the USA R&B acts. "Tight & rigid immigration laws with teeth should be maintained to keep the plagiarizing British Red Coats In England" Little wonder it was 42 years after that a Brit actually got to see his unparalleled treasure trove of vinyl hidden away in Oakland. These booklets are so informative, they are an essential fabric to the history of this worldwide scene of ours. To be reference in perhaps centuries to come. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 19.00 Solomon Burke Everybody Needs Somebody To Love C/w Looking For My Baby Mellow Yellow DEMO! 60s soul does not come any more classic than this 1964 recording conceived by some of Atlantic's most-gifted. Written by Bert Berns (Russell), Jerry Wexler and Solomon Burke himself, who liberally adds his "preacher-style" girl-chorus into the proceedings from his recollections of his church choir childhood. An anthem that over the years has been honored within movie scores "Blues Brothers" etc. and countless TV adverts that require the feelgood factor. Two years later Wilson Pickett did an slightly inferior take of this unsurpassed "party" tune, here is the stupidly rare August 664 British DEMOin "as new" condition, an historic 45 in it's rarest form in just the finest possible condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 137.00 Irene And The Scotts I'm Stuck On My Baby C/w Why Do You Treat Me Like You Do A Delightfully Delicious Double Dish-Up of Diva Detroit ! Two killer 1967 Detroit Northern Soul Sister dancers from from the pens of Michael (Campbell) & Raymond (Monette) produced by Motown team-member Bob Babbitt. Arranged by Mike Theodore & Dennis Coffey so it is little wonder, it's so darn good Northern Soul ...on both sides. This example is a "like new" PROMO retains it's original birth-sleeve. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 101.00
  23. Billy Preston The Most Exciting Organ Ever An utterly immaculate 12 track 1967 UK SUE press. The album title is some statement to make about a 20 year old! But then again as a precocious child he was on TV doubling on the Piano with Jazz immortal Nat King Cole, listen to how this Hammond hero matured. Partnering and backing most all of the greats, recording for The Beatles and appearing at The White House. This means little to the British Soul fan who cut their teeth on "Billy's Bag" at The Twisted Wheel or the local "trying to be hip" Youth Club, Billy Preston is still best remembered for "BILLY'S BAG". This album is so much more thsat just "Billy's Bag" for the MOD hammond or Wheeler scholar this album contains fully 4 NON-45 instrumental dancers. 1.slippin' and slidin' 2. let me know 3.the octopus 4. Steady Gettin' Making five sensational Hammon B-3 dance tunes that would grace any MODor Boo-Ga-Loo set. Every note as good as a Billy Hawkes, Jimmy Smith or any other iconic hammond album you care to mention. The difference is this example..is a flawless British SUE LP - so highly sought after for more reasons than one. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 57.00 Marv Johnson Come To Me C/w Whisper A groundbreaking 45 from 1958 in just astonishing condition! This very FIRST record to be issued by Berry Gordy's USA TAMLA label, # 101 and very difficult to acquire in acceptable condition as that Detroit release. As this tri-center 1958 UK press is eye-popping flawless condition, we would suggest it is one of the most difficult of all the UK Tamla Motown collectibles. Motown scholars when are you gonna encounter a Mint - copy with not even a hint of a turntable-spindle contact of the center-hole, again? Do not pass by... Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 170.00 Rubaiyats Omar Khayyam You do not have to be a student of New Orleans vinyl to know this Sansu 45 is one "cult" item that has from the beginning this scene of ours - been so, so difficult to snare. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 139.00 Invincables Can't No One Man C/w Wonders Of Love Taking much-inspiration from The Impressions, Los Angeles vocal-group of Clifton Knight, David Richardson & Lester Johnson part company with regular producers Joe Hoven & Jerry Winn, to be guided by Northern Soul iconic producer Miles Grayson. In typical Grayson-style the production hits you smack in the face, with a single drum hit, horns take the reins, unleashing an unusual brass and bongo arrangement which this "Impressions" styled vocal group tear into. As always Miles builds the production to fever pitch before the impressive ending. This flipside stands up to scrutiny against any & all big-ticket vocal-group Northern Soul. Flip it over, and you'll be swept away by what is a glorious horn propelled stomper that again is as good as anything you've heard before. The "Wonders Of Love" was also issued on Fros-Ray; do note we have a MINTcopy on the site, but the Fros-Ray flipside is a gut-wrenching deep soul harmony ballad not the dancer before you. Note: most all known copies of the Ciray 45 have labels reversed - as this one does, vinyl is immaculate. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 211.00
  24. Frank Dell He Broke Your Game Wide Open Yes, the incredibly elusive FIRST RELEASE out of New York pressed in heavy-duty vinyl, with the lighter shade of red label and different text layout. So very rarely seen, this is a Northern Soul artifact that those many of you seeking to file the rarest and first releases only, will be taking seriously. Simultaneous a monster during the mid & late 70s at Wigan Casino &Cleethorpes Pier but invariably played on the relatively common deep red thin vinyl variation. This record showcases Frank Dell booming vocal style guided by label owners David Blake & Phil Medley delivery top-drawer big production mid-paced Northern Soul. Proper-real-full-on Northern Soul in by far and away it's rarest format. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 546.00 Cam Cameron They Say C/w I'm A Lonely Man There is no mention on the label of a vocal-group accompanying Cam Cameron but essentially this is, every note a Chicago horn-laced vocal-group Northern Soul Thorough-Bred. Born from the fertile mind of Johnny Cameron a prolific purveyor of outstanding Windy City Soul arrangements. In recent times, as the NS crowd tires of classic after classic this exceptional 45 has had an outing or two from the thinking Djs, sparking off something of comeback for this stand-out tune to be currently perfectly perched for lift-off. Click the sound file we guarantee both sides will impress as much as the rare cream coloured label design does. NOTE. this copy is PERFECT is every respect! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 259.00 James Phelps The Look On Your Face C/w You Were Made For Love The beyond-rare PROMO copy! Not only the rarest example of this much-loved song and backing track, but also quite by far the best. Perhaps it's the tortured expression in James's vocal, or the delicious two-dimensional way Mr. Phelps can fuse gritty &smooth into one word. Whatever the magic, this record is right up there with the greatest rare soul recordings ever crafted. Richard Tufo, Floyd Smith & Chapman created something they truly believed in as Nate Evans, John Edwards & Satin all covered this stand-out song. Flip it for Chicago Deep Soul as J.P. slows down the pace, bearing his soul with throw your-emotions-onto-the-floor performance! The-Real-Deal SOUL both sides! Vinyl has a few tiny light surface marks - both soundfiles were lifted directly as always of this very disc. Plays beautifully. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 513.00 Joe Matthews Sorry Ain't Good Enough C/w You Better Mend Your Ways The ONLY "Thelma" release to see birth in the UK during the 60s. Considered by everyone as one the the jewels in the SUE crown. Certainly very few 45 releases in the UK during the 60's gave up two street-level Northern Soul Detroit beauties like this 45 does. Frantic Motor City dance soul at it's most vibrant. Condition could hardly be finer. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 80.00
  25. Jackie Edwards Come On Home C/w Sometimes Whilst we're talking about the Wynder K. Frog Band backing the immortal Jackie Edwards - let us present Jackie's 2nd finest "Soul" creation. We say 2nd because "I Feel So Bad" will for me and many others, never be surpassed as one of the great British offerings to Soul music. But hey, this is only gnat's-whisker behind...as this 45 also carries infinite rarity and a unique charm of it's very own. A b-side that has languished in the shadows of "I Feel So Bad" for far too long, click the soundfile you will be absolutely swamped by a Wembley-sized string section, male-vocal-group backing and Jackie's oh so beautifully tormented vocal style! Currently this is an occasional spin by me at THE STUTE - upon hearing again for the first time in maybe 3 months - it's at the top of my play list on the 16th. June! It's just freaking BRILLIANT !!!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 563.00 Eugene Blacknell & The New Breed Gettin' Down One of fully six 45s that the gifted Eugene Blacknell released on his Campbell Street Based label. Writing, aranging and producing some of California's finest funk offerings. This example is a tough hammond groove from the streets of Richmond, California. Bay Area funk full of attitude driven keyboards, wah wah & bass guitar and a subtle injection of the piano utilizing the rich vein of jazz that runs throughout the "Bay". The mix gives up a strong but intricate and cohesive dance tune, that rarely come to market. Check out all this man's work - it's captures the streets completely. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 93.00 Jackie Wilson Somebody Up There Likes You + 3 Carl Smith & Gerald Sims upbeat composition is well served by a man who was the ultimate master of tricky lyrics sewn into a rushing production! Blaring horns, girl choir hold Jackie's vocal aloft, throughout what is a blizzard of a production handled with ease by the 20th. Century's premier Northern Soul purveyor. So instead of the countless Jackie Wilson gems you call upon to delight your audience, why not feed them this seldom heard, instantaneous and incredibly rare jewel. NOT issued in the UK or the USA as a single and it's a killer! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 190.00 Soul City Cold Hearted Blues C/w Who Do You Think You Are STONE-MINT!!! possibly unplayed until the mighty double sound file was lifted from it. We have no hesitation in saying "mighty" as this 45 gives up two thumpin' Northern Soul juggernauts delivered by a snarling lead vocal, angry and bristling with defiance! Prolific producers Mike Lewis & Stuart Wiener try and match the force with hard-blowing horn & a bevvy of PMT afflicted girls, the whole thing screams arrogance! Flip it over and we feel the other side is just as impressive! Off the top of my head I can not think of another 45 that offers "Bad-Attitude" Northern Soul quite like this one does - little wonder this is starting to get some long overdue turntable excursions. BOTH SIDES ARE FLOOR-DESTROYERS! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 264.00
