Could This Work
Chalky, in an earlier post i mentioned the promoters should take some of the blame, for keep booking em, as for 'comfort zone' i meant regarding re bookings ie doing a venue so often or resident they kinda know they are 'safe', as for 'comfort zone' regarding how adventurous their sets are is another issue is it not? thread topic being 'repeats' Regards

Could This Work
As already said, if DJs that repeatedly show a disregard for what has gone earlier (either by late arrival or simple ignorance) got less bookings, and taken out of their apparent comfort zone, then a little more effort may take place, IMHO

Could This Work
The initial suggestion is a comlete non starter, as for writing tracks down, asking DJs to write down their plays for later DJs who can't be bothered to get their early enough to listen (apart from those busy in other rooms) and what about the later DJs? Having to read through many 'lists' some probably barely legible, in very often poor lighting, then having to write their own plays down, whilst dealing with requestees, don't think so somehow,

Could This Work
All this would do in effect is remove a DJs identity and ability to think on his feet at what is required at any given moment, and unless we expect all the paying public to learn the year of release of their fave tunes, then it would mean the end of 'requests' , and constantly saying 'i can't play that even though its not yet been played' Agree wih Steve, a little effort from a DJ should help, although mistakes will always happen, especially at multi room events, (where a dj may have left the room for a while, maybe to visit record bar etc) or if he/she smokes Shouldn't always lay the blame at the feet of the DJ, well not totally, if a promoter (who must be keeping his/her eye on his/her event plus recieving plenty feedback) is happy booking DJs that obviously don't show much regard for what has gone before, then surely they should take some blame, Pete

That "tumbleweed Moment"
Don't wanna get into the very boring oldies v newies debate as i don't really fall into either camp, But with all due respect are you really trying to tell me the events that you say flourish pull the numbers that the likes of Brighouse, stoke, and Blackburn KGH pull? Apologies if ive missed your point re - bigger and flourish, As i said i'm not a 'preacher' for either side of the fence, each to their own,

That "tumbleweed Moment"
Mike, just to add, i get my 'fix' from almost anywhere and everywhere thats soulful, couldn't be doing the same type of event week in week out, whatever the policy, last night quite straight forward, next week who knows? wherever the mood takes i suppose, Hopefully see you around real soon,

That "tumbleweed Moment"
Its so simple though, a group of peeps congregate in a building and thouroughly enjoy what goes on there, and other peeps enjoying whatever they enjoy really doesn't concern them, why should it concern anybody else why they enjoy what they do? What i don't get is what are they doing that's so wrong, they ENJOY it, end of,

That "tumbleweed Moment"
Ive played Kingsway a few times, and enjoyed every time, and Mr Piper has NEVER told me what i should or shouldn't play! All it does is deliver what it says on the tin, which on reading events and lookbacks on here is a rarity in itself, the promoters and the good numbers that attend obviously enjoy whats on the menu, and are quite happy for those that find it 'fookin borin' to stay away, Stating that folk shouldn't enjoy what they obviously do enjoy and saying they should move on when they are very happy where they are is just as bad as telling a DJ what he should play,

That "tumbleweed Moment"
Hello Mike, Good to meet you last night, and a very enjoyable night it was I think, for what its worth, that some events are far more 'dance floor driven' than others, some events to lose half the floor for a track or two isn't such a bad thing, others such as Kingsway where the emphasis is on entertainment rather than education to lose the 'floor' can be very scarey, Like you say, different promoters/events expect different things from the night, and any DJ deciding he/she knows better than the promoter or the paying customers of any particular event is running the risk of losing any future bookings, in the case of Kingsway finishing their spot

That "tumbleweed Moment"
Soulman, understand fully where your coming from, regardless of your wine intake, but can't help noticing your preferred event, KGH, it just happens i am resident at KGH and it doesn't get much better than 1800 peeps having a great night out accross 3/4 rooms, and if its the northern/motown room at KGH that you prefer then Kingsway Hall will be right up your street, Just to keep on topic, rarely tumbleweed at either event fingers crossed BTW indulged a little to much meself now maybe hic
-
That "tumbleweed Moment"
Agree totally, horses for courses as they say, and at Kingsway Hall they know what they like, what they want, and really know how to enjoy it, Absolutely nothing wrong with that, can't wait for tomorrow and if i bring nothing new to the table and help contribute to a great night (which it most definitely will be) then
