  1. Who, when, where? Usual info required. Super track. Ta much
  2. For those that don't like instrumentals it's normally because of a perceived lack of soul via the absence of vocals but to me the very best instrumentals including most of these listed, it's all about atmosphere and the creation of that unique sound that underpins most dance sounds. They may be unfashionable now but we cannot deny the place they hold in the scene overall.
  3. I personally would have this in my top 20 at least. It's got everything.
  4. Yes Godz but do you like it?
  5. Quite surprised that Levine is credited with this particularly if its in 1976. I had stopped going to the Mecca by then and was just about to finish going to Wigan. I'd always assumed it was a Wigan track and when I first heard it much later it reinforced for me just how much good stuff remained to be found after that golden era.
  6. Who was responsible for turning this up and when? Magnificent track. Ta much
  7. Sure there will be some snipes, just surprised no bids as yet. This achieved in excess of $5.6k in 2007 but each successive sale listed on Popsike has gone for less each time though a G- went to nearly $2k fairly recently. Somebody took a punt and offered this seller $1000. Not surprised to see that offer declined!
  8. One on e-bay with less than a day to go with no bids. Starting bid $1999.99. Late action expected?
  9. Was this one of Rod Shards finds? Did Richard move his copy on?
  10. Hope it didn't come across as any form of criticism Rod, just your usual laconic humorous style.
  11. Just so casual there, Rod. 3 icons turn up at your stall and you say it as if it was just another regular event. Must have been mind-blowing.
  12. So that would be 1980, Toad? Used to be the Ethics so presumably they are the "Standing in the darkness" Ethics?
  13. Where was "I made a mistake" first aired and who by? Great track by the way. Ta much.
  14. Definitely as early as 73 at the Mecca from my memory so predates RS RCA involvement. So maybe a Levine or Cats discovery.
  15. Whatever price it actually commands, in soul musical terms it's worth tons more. An absolute classic.
  16. If it did I don't remember it (not that that's much to go by) but if it was it certainly stayed under the radar for a few years.
  17. Got the first two and probably don't need a third but no doubt some will feel inclined to buy it, so good luck to them and Kev. I was not specifically on the scene in the 80's preferring to listen to contemporary stuff courtesy of Richard S and the sttuff adopted by Rod Deerlove, but I will remain eternally grateful that the scene was maintained by the guys at Stafford and Ady C and all the other people who ran venues in the 80's that allowed me to be aware of the stuff being discovered and played then which I then fully appreciated when the time was right to come back. Attendance wise, it might have been a bit thin but music wise, the quality of stuff from the 80's definitely stacks up against the very best of that discovered in the 70's.
  18. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of a sufficient tempo, however slow, to be able to have a shuffle to as opposed to a ballad that you might feel inclined to only listen to. No matter anyway, as all of the stuff listed is right up my street.
  19. Is Ritchie Adams - " Better off without you" a bit too slow to be a beat ballad? Either way another wonderful Randazzo track. Another favourite of mine is Barbara Banks - "Ain't I worth a dime"
  20. Definitely one of my favourite genres, so for me stuff like: Charades - Never set me free Jerry Fuller - Turn to me Ed Townsend - Don't lead me on Jean Wells - Don't come running to me would do it every time.
  21. There was a two and a half hour slot on Sunday - Rod Allsworth and Jimmy Scriv. Make of that what you will. Agree about Stevie Woomble. Should know this but who is Agentsmith - must have listened to him on Saturday at some point but too many sherbets affecting the memory.
