A couple of months ago I uploaded onto my youtube channel a hq soundfile of the Thornton Sisters r&b track on Cuppy, presuming it's the same band that recorded Big City Boy etc A few days ago, Yvonne Thornton posted a pretty nasty comment stating that they never recorded this tune. "This record is a sham. I am one of the Thornton Sisters and we NEVER recorded this song, yet Mr. Johnnysoul and this Soulfuljules keep misrepresenting this recording as performed by the Thornton Sisters––which it isn't" So does anybody know who THESE Thornton Sisters were?

Billy Hawks was actually pressed on 45, french issue on stateside with ps . Very scarce but not impossible to find, a few djs on the mod scene do own copies. Little Ann was pressed on 45 on Kent select.

ha ha, that was funny marc however one of the copies now residing in europe came from one of the nyc djs. if the other 3 or 4 known copies are in the hands of uk djs/collectors, it doesn't leave many copies in nyc, right?

ok, my question was more related to the rare soul scene. what i mean is would people in the soul scene pay that kind of money? personally i think that In New York in the right hands could become one of the biggest r&b tunes of the last few years. it has all the ingredients. but it is the other side which i think has had plays on the rare soul scene, hence me asking about the demand for it.

Overpriced imho. It used to sell for 400 ukp a few years back. Yesterday a vg copy on ebay ended at 200$ with no takers

I once had the wp version, german pressing. Great version imho but the sound level is quite low and sounds pretty weak when played out. Would be interesting to hear the mastering on the japanese and portuguese pressings. Though probably the lp cut is the one that sounds best.

i've had my copies (a purple and an orange) for a few years now, it's just that i was discussing this thing with a friend of mine the other day and today i spotted a copy on ebay, so i thought i might ask on here

interesting point about the uk master quality. normally i find that most of the uk pressed soul records (which had previously had a us pressing) are mastered worse than their american counterparts. the reason probably being that they were mastered directly from the actual records and not from the tape. don't own the tommie young on contempo, so i can't compare it with my american pressings thou...

as there are several label variations (at least 4 that i can think of: white with black writings, white with coloured writing, purple and orange), i was wondering which one is supposed to be the very first pressing and are the other ones later pressings or simply label variations?

I did get a photo almost 2 days after asking for it. plenty of time to scan the white label with a red marker sign on it, glue it on another record and then break it into 2 or 3 pieces. I seem to remember seeing the same record on ebay, offered by an american dealer a few months later...
