  8. spot on mate..and I don't even know ya. My brother wrote this in april 07 re Peterborough DKOF, still rings a bell with me. So what is DKOF all about, and why is it any different to any other soul music night in peterborough? Thats a good question and one which deserves an honest answer, well for starters this night is not going to be the biggest soul night in the area, we don't want it to be..... we want to keep it small and friendly with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. We're not gonna be playing classic northern soul , there are several clubs in the city who do that quite succesfully already ..... by the same token that doesn't mean to say we aren't going to be playing any northern soul We're not gonna judge the success of our night by how full the dance floor is, if you want to dance you dance, if you want to just sit back and listen , then just listen.....jocks will be given a free reign to play what they like....however it is not our intention to batter you to death with soul obscurities, we simply want to champion the underplayed, the forgotten and the ignored This is a night for listening to and enjoying black american music ... nothing more nothing less, no pretence, no bullshit, just music ....... simple isn't it. DKOF april 2007 ----------------------------- GOT IT SUSSED ent we

  10. Mick, Ray and myself run a small venue in Peterborough that has one simple rule, play what the hell you want but please refrain from playing bootlegs. As far as promoters taking prime spots with a box full of boots, get on with it. It's their promotion they can do what they like, we at dkof take a back seat and believe a good night out is far more enjoybale than using the evening to say "look at what I got last week" In fact since dkof's conception I have only dj'd twice at the venue and won't be playing again until Decemeber, I even paid a fiver to get into my OWN soul night so as to try and balance the books to cover Thorley and Hennigans agreed fees. We just love our music, nowt else. PD

  15. At DKOF tonight I will be playing I aint going Nowhere - Thelma Houston Seek and you shall find - Marvin Gaye Baby don't waste my time - GladysKnight all album tracks...nowt wrong with em.
  16. I have friends who have travelled up the NW Staurday to see Dean Parrish at the Casino Revival night Sunday that heard last night that Dean Parrish failed to turn up at the City Club Friday. There has been no statement from Mr Majanly as to why on a forum which he uses nor has there been any 'no show' statement on https://www.wigan-casino.co.uk/ the website who have been promoting the event. I did email the website owner last night as yet no response. On another forum one of the resident djs at the city club suggested that Russ Winstanley informed Stef on arrival at the City Club that Dean Parish is still in the USA with a trapped nerve. Would someone ITK clarify so I can pass on this morning if Mr Parrish flew over yesterday or is it a deffo no show for Wigan tonight. Ta
  17. one a month on ebay now.
  18. If I were ever on Desert Island Discs this would have to be included, one of the all time Northern Soul greats imo..£475 post paid (BARGAIN), go on tell the Mrs no holdiday next year and buy the bastard now.
  19. whats his name Macca? had probs with a german last year. Pm me his address we have Boro on Deutchland who are more than happy to enforce the Carpenters Arm Kiss
  20. Colin Curtis one night at the Torch nearly took the lid off Butch at Droyldon one night Kitch at the June 2007 dkof night, awesome but numero uno has to be the night Adi Croasdale played the RCA unissued things for the very 1st time at the 100 club, unbelievable.
  21. I actually believe he enjoyed the night more than I did Bazza and that was my point. If folk want to stand in a cafe enjoy an expresso whilst listening to Paul Humpreys, Cochise going dadadadadadada then clapping twice in the correct place, fair play to em. I reckon it'll be a wonderful night for those that enjoy the nostalgia thing. Me I'll be trawling through ebay looking for stuff that might end up with a knock on the door via the postman some two weeks later, a play on the turntable and file away under "never to be played ever again" bizarre.
  22. I wanna tell ya a story.. at recent soul night I stood near a chap who must have been late 40's, he had the outfit on, baggies, white socks, beer mat, vest with a Casino Badge in the middle, wrist wrap. Now I'd had a few so I thought in for a penny in for a pound... "scuse me mate why do you dress like that" "LIKE WHAT?" "Like i did 30 odd years ago" "coz its part of going out to a Northern doo en it, I mean you wouldn't go to a Mods doo dressed like punk would ya" "UmmmmI guess not mate, but why" "you think I'm a sad bastard don't ya, I tell you something the sad bastards are those idiots who spend a weeks wages on one piece of vinyl, its those that wanna get a life, gotta go Dana Valery is on, woosh!!!" The ole boy was off and spinning arround to Dana Valery, singing and clapping along without a care ine the world, I just wonderd around allnight trying to get Smudge to part with his Stanley Mitchell promo for £300. I guess ignorance CAN be bliss sometimes.
