Wow, Robb!! Interesting. To my ears, the voice on "Did My Baby Call" does sound similar, but not the one on "I Won't Hurt You Anymore." I'm running it by Mr. Kingfish shortly.

I found this acetate in Detroit a few years ago. I assume these are Detroit recordings, but I suppose it's possible they aren't. I also assume neither of these songs saw the light of day in any form other than what you can hear here. These are very simple guitar-and-voice demo recordings sung by someone with a great voice. Can anyone ID the singer? Hope you like them as much as I do. Note that the recordings are very rough, not only because the acetate is battered but also because there's quite a bit of tape bleed on one side, with extraneous sounds intruding...which lends the thing a shiver-inducing otherworldly feel, I think. I was there! Eddie's voice is great. I felt for McKinley Jackson, who was quickly learning the songs off sheet music while the Hollands were talking, then had to play them for the first time live for 3,000 people. He did a great job.

Just picked up a Sheppards single, Loving You/Tragic (Vee-Jay 441 stock copy). Loving You doesn't appear in the discographies as a Vee-Jay release. I've got it on Abner b/w Elevator Operator. I haven't A/B'd them, but this one sounds the same as that recording. Discographies have VJ441 as Come to Me/Tragic. This definitely isn't that. Anyone else seen one of these? Apologies for the nerdy question.
