Bernie Moore On Manship
What'd this go for, anyway? I've long had a 12-inch acetate, found in Detroit, with 6 songs on it that include both sides of the Bernie Moore 45 (possibly in a different/unfinished version, but I don't know, because I've never heard the 45 release) and both sides of the Vivian Jones on Lark. Can't recall what the 5th and 6th tracks are...

Mine's on green Federal but, like Michael's, looks suspiciously late.

Hi, Bob. Just a couple. You're right: most are freeform.

Herb Hardesty
I've played it on the radio but not out.

Ultimate 1999 Label
I think Howard Collins is the name that links all the Chanson records and the International Five....Who's he?
-
Ultimate 1999 Label
yeah, i love that international five record. don't remember names on it, but fairly certain about the gm stamp. and yeah, at least SOME chanson releases are definitely new jersey, but then there's the charlie chuck record, which i think is midwestern. it's all a mystery to me....
-
Ultimate 1999 Label
can't help you with that, but yeah, i remember seeing kennedy's name on gemini and aquarius and figured they're both from detroit and both astrological...and the high voice on the soul in-pressions sounds to me like the el counts' lead singer.... how about the domestic five? the name sounds like either the inspiration for or a sly response to the international five, who have that record on starway (a detroit label?? it has a gm stamp in the runout groove but also seems to have something to do with the chanson label)....anyone know anything about either group??
-
Ultimate 1999 Label
i think all the ultimate 1999 records i know have been mentioned! and the only aquarius records i know are the ones mentioned by galaxy...didn't know about the label variation on the calvin golden (mine's solid red). surely the detroit gemini label (el count executives) has some relation to aquarius, though, right?
-
Ultimate 1999 Label
Have you heard their new record, out last year?
-
Mike Hanks D-Town Label
Mossy: My uncle co-owned Tuba Records and Music Merchants distributors.
-
Benny Poole
Funny you think it sounds like Junior Walker....Walker's from Battle Creek and Poole's from Jackson...both are small Michigan cities that lie on I-94 between Chicago and Detroit. Poole is a sax player who had a couple singles on Cascade Sound as well: "Hi Heel Sneakers" and "I Can Dig It"/"That's All Right."
-
Mike Hanks D-Town Label
My uncle was in on the Romey Rand session and may have co-written one or both of the sides, though he's not credited. He does own the publishing on both sides, though. He has given me a couple of tape reels of her performing the song in what sounds like a nightclub, with piano accompaniment. Haven't listened to them carefully yet. Allegedly Hanks locked her in the basement till she did a usable take...for like a whole weekend or something.

'hello Stranger' The Ollie Mclaughlin Covers
There's also the Philly Dawgs' instrumental version on Tuba. My uncle (Tuba co-owner) told me that came about as Ollie's way of paying off a financial debt to Tuba.
