  5. not to speak on mark's behalf, but yes, same song. ebonys version has stronger, more soulful vocals imo.
  6. Sorry, couldn't figure out which section to post this in...have been invited to a wedding in England 6 July. Will be able to afford the trip from New York only if I can do a DJ gig or two. I can do R&B, northern, funk, deep/sweet/ballads/crossover, or (my preference) a combination of some or all of the above. Looking for 4-5 July or anytime the following week/weekend. For an idea of what I play (I don't do it exactly the same way in front of a live crowd, obviously), you can check out my radio playlists/archives here: www.wfmu.org/playslists/sv cheers, matt

  13. what's this one go for? i've got a nice minter but am not eager to let it go...unless it's some kind of monster rarity that will pay my rent for a month or something...
  14. hey, warren. got the collins on galaxy, white label, green vinyl, very strong vg (on a m-, vg+, vg scale)...plays loud and clear through just a bit of surface noise. great dj or home listening copy. close to vg+. plays a lot better than it looks, and doesn't look too bad. let me know your offer for this obviously rare record.... cheers, m
  15. i got it about a year ago but have no further info on it. i like it and agree with your description. pretty latin-sounding instrumental.
  16. i know, "looks like" and "sounds like" statements are so highly subjective....
  17. i stand by my statement! sounds NOTHING like "wonderful world" except that yes, the verses begin with the words "don't know much about..."
  18. coasters, crazy baby clovers, try my loving on you (unless i'm mishearing them in my head!)
  19. wait, i'll admit that i now can't remember what the doug and dave a-side sounds like, but the "let's monkey too" side certainly sounds like a typical early-sixties new orleans r&b dance record, no??? i'll check when i get home, but that's how i remember it.
  20. doug and dave is an early-sixties new orleans (or at least new orleans-sounding) record. both sides are pretty good, if i recall.
  21. what a great, crazy label. so much apparently rare stuff. anyone ever heard this one? U.S.A. 108 Mod Singers Mr. Thunder You're Gonna Need Me any good??? what do the ones you found sound like, meaty?
  22. f*** me, iggy, seger, and deon jackson all in high school together!
  23. labels on strings version are the same as on the 27320 release, but runout groove of one of them (drrrrrrr, can't remember which) has 27320A-X and 27320B-X instead of just 27320A and 27320B. "Problem Child" side is different on all three, two. i think the one on the flip of the strings version is blisteringly fast--almost sounds like they ran the tape at the wrong speed. there's also the original version of "problem child" by scotty bray on true-soul, a very nice record. eagerly awaiting documentation of the alleged alternate versions of majjestees, little leon, and milton harris.
  24. really?!? i thought i knew all the mutt releases....must have had 20 or so milton harrises but never noticed that any were different. how do they differ? only had one majjestees so wouldn't know....but there are actually THREE different carol jones versions: the two you're talking about and the striped-label one, which has two more takes.
