it's got that andre williams sound through and through...flip is "bassology"
  3. curious...what'd the dorothie berrie go for?
  4. strange...doesn't show up on any google searches or ebay searches....usually you'll find a strange google hit or two for a closed ebay auction....not on popsike either. it's definitely black. strong male lead with falsetto group. i played it on my radio show a year ago, about 46 minutes in, i think: https://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/20018 hard to categorize the sound. doesn't have a northern feel but is an uptempo dancer...
  5. Anyone know this one? Ohio record, on Pork. Uptempo dancer A-side, "When Your Love Say Goodbye." Ballad B, "Don't Put Off for Today..." I've had it for years, can't remember where/when I got it, think it's pretty damn good, and have never seen another.
  6. closing within the hour!!
  7. item # 180149293002
  8. now on ebay, item 180149293002
  9. er, i may just barricade myself in my apartment with my records forever now.
  10. yeah, them two. okay, deal. mik, warren? counteroffer?
  11. hey, jo, bring those two birds you know round with you, all three of you in maid (or nurse or cheerleader) outfits, and we'll talk.
  12. ha. i can't even find the fucker. it hasn't surfaced in over six months....buried in my living room (or kitchen? or bedroom?) somewhere....
  13. seriously, mick? i had no idea! glad i didn't sell it, then. i just told him that i like to hold on to oddball things at those low prices because i need a variety of sounds for the radio show.
  14. hmmm....someone offered me $10-$15 for mine a few months ago, then upped it to $75. i decided to hold on to it. seems like a few people are after it. is someone playing it?
  15. so no one wants this beautiful rare gem? hmmm.

well, i got one from you many years ago, then soon found another elsewhere. held both for a while before trading one to pomonkey for way too little. i somehow assumed it wasn't too rare, since i'd found TWO without really looking.

    i've had two too!
  18. "I Know What Love Is All About"/"She Put Me Down" Rarest of the rare! Have decided to part with my copy. Looking for a good offer or it goes up on ebay soon. Condition: on a M-/VG+/VG scale, "I Know" (dance side) is VG++; "She Put" (ballad side) is VG+ with some surface noise (a good twirl on the vacuum record cleaner might quiet it down some, but it's very playable and enjoyable regardless). Beautiful glossy copy with clean labels that have a bit of ring wear. Where have you ever seen this in ANY condition, though? Anyone?
  19. hi. don't suppose you still have this one, do you? 151 Jackie Hunt Since You Been Gone / Security Of Love Jetsream let me know! thanks
  20. in july of '97 i devoted a radio show to the sounds of detroit from late july '67...marking the 30-year anniversary of the riots...played what you might have heard on, say, wjlb the day the rioting began...did lots of playlist research beforehand but also relied on anecdotal evidence on a couple ("man, they stopped playing my record on the radio when the riots hit," someone had quoted cecil washington as saying, because of what might be interpreted as some kind of black-power sentiment in the lyrics)... DOWNTOWN SOULVILLE with Mr. Fine Wine Fridays 6PM-7PM, WFMU - FM 91.1 East Orange, NJ July 25, 1997 Detroit Riot soundtrack! Gladys Knight & the Pips, "Everybody Needs Love" Marvin Gaye, "Your Unchanging Love" Andre Williams, "Pearl Time" Jimmy Delphs, "Almost" Jean & the Darlings, "How Can You Mistreat the One You Love" The "Group" Featuring Cecil Washington, "I Don't Like to Lose" The Miracles, "More Love" Bunny Sigler, "Let the Good Times Roll/Feels So Good" Lewis Clark, "Dog (Ain't a Man's Best Friend)" The Parliaments, "(I Wanna) Testify" Kris Peterson, "Mama's Little Baby (Is a Big Girl Now)" The Esquires, "Get On Up" Bonnie Brisker, "Someone Really Loves You (Guess Who)" The Isley Brothers, "That's the Way Love Is" Jr. Walker & the All Stars, "Shoot Your Shot" Jimmy Ruffin, "Don't You Miss Me a Little Bit Baby" Slim Harpo, "Tip On In (Pt. 1)" Jimmy Mack, "My World Is on Fire" Willie Horton & the Supremes, "Detroit Is Happening" i'm doubting "shoot your shot" had much longevity on the local playlists after that week! same with "detroit is happening," which was a public service message for summer youth programs but had lines like "detroit is HAPPENING this summer!!"...then there's "my world is on fire"...

two great sides, very poor recording. if they'd done a better job with it, this would be one of the all-time great two-siders, with a killer deep side and a killer dance side. alas...
  22. i'm not set up for clips. someone else, maybe?
  23. "try my love" is the side, man!
  24. thanks, grumpyfella. had a feeling that one was pretty rare.
  25. one instance that springs to mind: the "other" james shaw gets credit for some james t. "mighty hannibal" shaw tracks....but i've stumbled on many others over the years.
