I can not comment on The 100 Club but I agree with Ken and I have to admit that I have been in a situation on two occasions where it nearly went Pete Tong.

The Osmond's track and their dancing to it is well tops! Very Jackson 5! Art Ensemble Of Chicago theme de yoyo, Motorpsycho - Theme de Yoyo, is this just for da Jazz kats? How much is Cilla Black??

Concept of ops; Go on the train If this is a cheaper option we can train down there, go a bit earlier and have a look around? Loads of free stuff The Doctor Who exhibition, The Tower, North Pier, The Pleasure Beach and The Golden Mile, loads of stuff to see! Car: As I said I don't mind taking my car, a few cars and a load of people. Park well before the congestion charge zone and tube it in, arrive early and have a look around London to see Times Square, Statue of Liberty, and the Pizza hut. Forget about coaches 118 unless the Sheffield bus to London is worth a look? I'll find out and by me finding I mean I will get our lass to find out, she is a ninja at finding bargains! Ady get the dates up on here please

I have not been for a while now but this is soon going to be rectified as a few of us are planning to go on mass. The forward recce has already taken place, our Derek has been to the last two and his reports are favorable indeed! As far as numbers dropping, Ady you have been there seen it and got the T-Shirt, you can listen to the doom and gloom merchants but I think Carms is spot on; we are in a recession that is effecting every one. I beg of you, ride it out. If we loose this marvelous bastion of our beloved scene then like Wigan, Imber, The Mecca and many others it will be irreplaceable. This recession will swing back up, there are green shoots of recovery (did I really say that?) but money is still a little tight. There is talk of an uneasy rubbing of shoulders with the Soulies and the great unwashed but a punter is a punter and bums on seats keep a club open. Ady the last thing you need is to let us internet warriors tell you how to run The 100 Club, you have already said that we are only 10% of the club? I think it would be a mistake to start knee jerking and changing what has kept you there all of these years, your passion, your dedication and the stable you keep sets you far above the norm. The Northernsoul Scene is now a victim of its numbers, there is far too much choice and far too many fly by night money men and we all know that this dilutes the crowd. I predict that as the numbers thin, and I think they will if the writing on the wall is correct, I think many of the less established nighters will fall by the way side leaving a healthy "culled" herd that will again gladly travel. For those Northernsoulies out there logging on and reading this, did you ever wish The Casino was still open? Do you ever yearn to visit? And to those who had never been and wished you had, well here is an opportunity to both visit a legendary allnighter and support a venue that deserves support. I for one am getting off my bum and heading down to the smoke! Long live Northernsoul Long live the 100 Club! Callin all South Yorkshire Soul Sourcers, Tarn Lads n Donny Soldiers n da Rotherham posse, lets get it together and lookinto a mass visit. Barney can we get summit going on Team Tarn Talk, I'll sort our little crew out and I'll see if Spot, Martyn and some of the north east crew are up for it. Lets look into trains from Sheffield, Donny and Barnsley, I don't mind taxi'ng people around our manor and if we want to go by car rather than train, I will take my car and I'll sort out parking in the smoke at one of the Army camps. Lets do it, lets support those who have supported us!
  10. Ady banning talc from The 100 Club would not stop me visiting such a prestigious event, am I going back on my words, yes! Mental note to self, "Don't be such a dick when on the key board" The South Yorkshire Soul Searchers are 0ne million percent visiting the 100 Club, talc or no talc. Kinel Barney, what are you doing with a picture of my feet?
  11. Dolly you said that I had camel toe one night!
  12. I'll Be There
  13. Unacceptable Allnighters The mental tick list of wants If this thread turns into a personal attack on promoters then please delete I thought it important to write that top bit because some times these things get highly charged and I want to keep the thread aimed fairly and squarely at the punters rather than give a platform to the venue organizers who may be tempted to get into the "Mines better than yours", sorry if that sounds crass. Right to the point then..................... I personally no longer pay much attention to flyers, I'm more often than not disappointed with what I expect and what's actually on offer that I now days rely totally on word of mouth, there is a down side to this of course and that is for new venues. I think I must clarify that I am talking about the allnighters rather than the soul nights, I think there are different facets to both and I want to concentrate firstly on the Nighters. An old pal of mine used to bang on that "It's only a night out", this is quite true, I don't take things too seriously, never personally but I am aware of the effort and investment needed to do a Nighter that may be some distance away so I am expecting, no demanding a few things. Here is my tick list.......... Right from the off I want a full Nighter, I am not going to travel for one of those "Mini Allnighters" and I want the do to finish as near to 0800hrs as possible, I draw the line at 0600hrs but I don't like it. The venue has to have a dance floor that's danceable, not an assault course full of obstacles such as holes, loose flooring and anything else that seams designed to dump me on my bum, I can do that my self! Talc, I have no intention what so ever in visiting a venue that doesn't allow talc, you can tell me that the roof is low, there is humidity and for my safety I can't use talc, I never missed a Canklow in Rotherham and there the floor was like a ice rink, I want to make the choice, not you! CD's, if you are playing anything other than a new release or some thing unavailable on wax then tell me before I travel, I aint coming to pay for silver shiny things unless the venue is well advertised or it's a charity event and the play policy is published in advance. Alcohol, I have no problems with sensible drinkers but I don't want young kids spilling their drinks on the dance floor nor do I want the "Did you call my pint a puff" brigade. Security staff, I know my bag is going to be searched, I know you are doing a thankless job but I want to be treated like a gentleman and I will treat you like a gentleman, unless of course you are massive ten you can treat me what ever the way you feel but please don't hurt me! A sensible, inspiring (I know I am going to get it for this) DJ line up, I want to see some unknowns but if I am paying premiere money I want the premiere league and not Uncle Bill with his box of records. Punters, I suppose I want my comfort zone and I want to see some faces I recognise to assure me that my choice has been the right one as far as venue is concerned? Yup I know that the further I stray from the cradle of The M62 the less well known faces I will see and I may even meet one of those cockney types? Music, I have no problem with oldies and I have no problem with new spins, I have no problem with RnB and I have no problem with Modern, I love Soul! I do how ever want a bit of imagination from the DJ, I don't want to stare at an empty dance floor all night yet I know that a new sound may thin the dancers, I will be there making my own mind up and if there is a good crowd they will usually give some thing new or seldom played, a decent chance. I want to celebrate along with the DJ and allow them to point the way rather than nudge me along. I know the music is a very personal thing so lets not get ambushed with this, there are other threads and I am fearful of this getting high jacked. The wow factor, I want to go or meet up with the friends I have made and drive home thinking that I will return. I think that's my wish list? What's yours?
  14. Rita Dacosta Don't Bring Me Down, always reminds me of sunny days!
  15. I disagree about the "Peer pressure". There is no peer pressure to buy a Northernsoul disc, how can there be? It's not as if any one will ever see you in your back bedroom, iPod or whilst driving? Young kids buying chart records are exposed to criticisms at school, on the bus, in the play ground and they are more likely to rub shoulders with their peer group than a middle aged Northernsoul fan? We are, as a species, very much like sheep but the average Northernsoul fan has chosen this kinda music because it steps away from the middle lane, the commercial and the well know, the paradox is that some floor fillers are popular but even then these tracks can and do get dropped like a hot potato when given too much exposure. If you are buying a track because you are a DJ who needs the relevant tunes then that's OK. Are there really people who buy tracks that they don't like because they are in demand? I can't honestly see this being true? Can any one substantiate this? I think I will need a little more than hear say to believe that such a div actually exists?
  16. Lorraine Silver - Lost Summer Love, underrated and one over played, still an ace track! also by Shelley Fabares
  17. Long Hot Summer - Joe Simon
  18. World Column - So is The Sun I had to look that up to relies that I have been dancing to it for decades not knowing ever what it was called! "Don't ya just love it when that happens?" Thanks Mark, top track, wish I could stomp all the way through it as I once could!
  19. Northernsoul Hot Tracks Here comes the summer It's been a long cold winter baby! The South Yorkshire Soul Searchers have on many occasions driven home from a Nighter through extremely bad weather, some times touch and go plus we have had one or two do's cancelled! Have we said goodbye to the cccccccold and are we about to embrace the eye squinting Sunday morning where red eyed Soulies greet the sunshine? Can we get a list of Northernsoul tracks that make us feel warm? Summer tracks.................... Joey Delorenzo - Wake Up To The Sunshine Girl Thelma Houston - Saturday Night Sunday Morning Bill Harris Am I Hot, Am I Cold Three tunes that make me have a summer smile, what tunes make you think of warmer times?
  20. If we take the commercial pop charts first and establish that there is an element of brainwashing from the radio stations and the song "Hook" becomes lodged in the brain and this results in record sales, nothing new or earth shattering about that. The Northernsoul "In demand" tune has the same effect from DJ plays giving the track exposure but there are other elements to this that are missing from commercial pop charts such as ambience , a connection to a real memory rather than an imagined or suggested one. When I get a tune rattling around in my Swede it's not only because of the hook, it's because it's going to become a photograph of an enjoyable set of nights out. You can of course attach different things such as places, people and emotions not forgetting that Northernsoul now days stirs many dormant memories and sends us hurtling back to a yesteryear of youthful whimsy. Northernsoul gives an intoxicating element that stimulates and stirs, the smile factor is immeasurable and when a "In demand" track has captured your imagination the pull is quite strong indeed. To want and need to have that "In demand" track is the want and need for a tangible record of a great time accompanied by a track you enjoy.
  21. Come on Wiggyflat this thread is like a red rag to a bull! When you say "Traditional Northernsoul" do you mean "Wigan Casino Revival" stuff? I think you have to be a little bit more specific than giving such a broad brush description because the term "Traditional" will be open to interpretations that are always going to cause heated debate; I kinda suspect you know this already? If you want traditional Northernsoul that is served up as quality and danced and enjoyed by some top people in a magnificent setting then Blackpool at the end of the year for a weekender or Stoke. I love the spectacle and enjoy every minute of the dos with great friends and an atmosphere that's hard to beat. There are loads of people who dress in the classic casino style and don't take them selves too serious, there are loads of people who travel vast distances for Stoke and to be honest if you are really looking for traditional Northernsoul then this is the place to be. Most Allnighters up and down the country offer their own slant on rare soul and if you are looking for traditional Northernsoul then keep away from the Allnighter Scene coz it's a long way from the Snake or the Lambrini. I can't believe I'm falling for this wind up!

Deffo some thing to be aware of, I was stung on some items sent to me from the Far East. I think those who are trying to make a living or at least trying to bolster their income should be encouraged with incentives rather than trying to take from the little man all the time! Hats off to those who deal in records, more hassle than its worth some times!
  23. Dear Jim'll Fix It, My name is Simon and I would like you to fix it for me and the many other Northernsoul fans to have a Va Vaas reunion so we can have a taste of where our roots are from. If you do this I will try my hardest to stop touching my special place. Thank you Simon Cuerden aged 47 and a half

  25. I don't think it's as simple as a tongue in cheek, leave it to "Soul Police" when people are being asked to part with their hard earned money, I think its just common courteous not too fluff up a venue when there is little to no effort to play any thing other than the tired old formula. Like I said it matter not too much at a local event if there is a few pokies being told on the flyer, or does it? I like to think that we have some corking allnighters to choose from and we pretty much know in advance what kind of chef is serving up the dish even if we aren't sure of the flavors until we taste them, this is what the Nighter scene want and I dare say that if we as a traveling customer group ever felt really and truly cheated by a promoter then I hope that a lynching would ensue? At the very least no one would return? We don't need to go as far as an ingredients list, we all know that there will be nuts but! A deliberate and misleading attempt to over sell is wrong and it takes the piss. As far as not saying anything if you haven't got anything nice to say, well aint that the British way? To not say anything while the numbers dwindle doesn't do any one any good, yes there is a line between constructive and destructive criticisms but we should not put up with being tricked? As far as the Northernsoul scene dwindling I say bring it on! The Allnighters of quality will survive as they have in the past, I personally would love to see the soul nights die a death and those unscrupulous promoters disappear back under the rock the hid under during the lean years. I want quality not quantity, it's the quantity that is killing the scene, if the scene is dyeing and I don't think it is? It's maybe shedding a skin but that skin is dead, loads of top class nighters out there! To those who play safe and whack on CD's then great if that's what the people want to hear but if you are charging punters to listen to the same CD as they did on the drive there then you should hang your heads in shame. Across the board policy, lets hear from some of those who advertise as this and we will see what's really on offer because I think the term across the board has become synonymous with fibbing or playing safe. That said, there are many punters who want nothing more than to dance to their old favorites, I admit to having a liking for this every now and again but I want to know what I am getting especially if I am to travel. Flyers and promoters words mean nothing, DJ line ups and word of mouth are the only thing I ever rely on.
