Boz Scaggs
Boz Scaggs Just surfin, like ya do, youtube is me fave. Typing in bits n pieces and jumping from one sound to another, what a fantastic medium the tinternet is! Well today I have mostly been listening to the tracks I remember the older boys n girls dancing to at my local youth club and a track that got under my skin back then was Boz Scaggs - Boz Scaggs - What Can I Say (1976) , for some reason it reminds me a little of Candi Staton's "Young hearts run free"? Well Boz Scaggs entered into our Northernsoul culture with a modern soul track I think it was Boz Scaggs - JoJo? I may now e-bay the album, I wonder if it's worth a listen. I think this is the real cross over! Mega tracks even if I am mistaken with the Jo Jo one? Can any one help? Both tracks are on the tube...... wadda ya think?

New Youngblood Dj On The Scene
I am lucky enough to be a Yorkshire man who doesn't live too far from their neck of the woods and I have visited the venue a few times. It's not a bad night with some very passionate local soul fans. The young ones who DJ have an infectious manner and the dance floor is never empty. I personally like the mix between oldies and seventies newies, my fave! KTF!

Ian, we haven't always seen eye to eye because you are slightly taller than me. The "Squaddie's doing star jumps" was back in my Army days whist serving in Bosnia. We would return from patrol and sneak a couple of cans of beer, we where on a "two can" rule but no one ever said how big the cans could be, we chose Jerri cans! Inevitably a boogie box would be produced and the predictable "rap" would be played by our young soldiers. I had a shed load of Goldmine CD's with me, saved me from going completely mad they did and I would chuck the "rap" CD out of the player and subject the young ones to northernsoul and a Baltic Soul Session. For those who where brave enough, or stupid enough, to whinge at this, they where given star jumps to do in time to the music and for the duration of the record. Hence I was responsible for some fitter soldiers and some Northernsoul converts. (No bullying letters please, it was a different Army back then) While I was there in Banja Luka I was asked to appear on a local radio station as a guest for an hour. I could select or bring my choice of music and be interviewed and speak about my chosen subject. I of course chose Northernsoul. I spoke about British youth culture and our working class roots pepper potting the interview with various tunes. Frances Nero - Footsteps Following Me was one of the tracks I played! Great days miss them like mad but I am enjoying today's scene and just love the Middleton and the Barnsley nighters. Ian give me a ring if you can coz I am going to ask a fave that people are gonna love n hate!! Facebooking my number to ya now.........

Who's Gonna Help A Brother
Hello!!! A Paypal account for a chap who lost some "stuff" in a flood? Is this for real?? Aren't there any more deserving causes other than some one who hasn't got insurance? We as a nation suffered severe floods last year!!! There are still families living in porta cabins even now. The USA has enough money to fork out on their needy cases. Instead of flushing your hard earned wedge down the pan why not give to cancer research or another fookin real deserving charity that tries to help real human suffering. I feel for this chap, I realy do but let me take you by the hand and |I'll lead you through the streets of London..............

Brilliant thread! I have been away for a while and it's taken me an age to catch up. Ian welcome to the lions den mate, no one can ever accuse you of not being brave!! I mean your presence on here must be like a red rag to a bull for a lot of people. I think some times people can forget that there is another human being taking the flack when we all start to criticise and when the band wagon starts to roll there are plenty of passengers. I criticised SWONS to have Pete Smith put it into crystal clear perspective for me and that was when he said how important it was and is to have documented so many of our loved artists and tracks. In this time of internet access, CD's n soul nights every one is now an expert with an opinion. I have never realy listened to any one else's critique on music because it is a very personal thing and when a piece hits the right spot to an individual it can become a magical moment that turns into a time machine of memories, yes this doesn't happen all the time but when it does wow! Frances Nero - Footsteps Following Me........... fookin wow! My only yard stick is the dance floor, you can talk as much as you want about a tune but it's the dancer who decides. You don't have to like every thing Ian Levine does, that would make you a sheep, but to hate every thing Ian Levine does..... well, that makes you a knob . Lets have a little bit of the love that our music is about, its only a night out and its only a fookin record so lets all stop sniping. Keep up the good work fella. ">

Music That Became Part Of Your Dna

Music That Became Part Of Your Dna
Just heard Candi Staton's "Young Hearts run Free", it felt like an old friend, no more than that, it felt like it was mine? I then started to dip into my memory banks and my music falls into different storage bins but there is one storage bin in my mind that is crammed full of music that seamed to inspire me, or just fitted into my being during particular moments in time........... Interplay - Derek and Ray races to the top, it warms me and takes me back to my school days listening to this on a cassette recorder on the playing fields of Beverley Longcroft. Whats in your DNA?

Soul & Tragedies
- Soul & Tragedies
I hope I don't get panned too much about this subject; I have no sympathy for any artist or former artist who has fallen on "hard times". That's just the nature of the job, one minute your up with a smash hit and next minute you're a flop who cant sell a record, nowt new about that and certainly some thing that any raising star knows in their heart of hearts. I, like many, was an aspiring rock star and the lead singer in a band called "The Gyroscopic Nomads" we recorded three records, "Roll on Doomsday", "Fire Bug" and "Lounging round in Battersea", no fooker gives a toss about our band splitting up and only ever selling one record to my Aunty Pat, who didn't even have a record player! Most of the booh hoo hoo stories you hear are of from one hit wonders who never cut another track or drug addled artists who sang songs that where served to them on a plate, there are millions of great singers out there who are waiting tables. "Overlooked and forgotten artists" bollocks! You don't have to hit the bottle, hit the needle or hit your wife just coz you suddenly have to get a proper job like 99.9999% of those reading this post. I know there are some terrible stories from these artists, but every fooker has a story!- Northernsoul Dancing Solo
Mark, its brilliant trying to catch up mate. Lot of beard strokers out there now and far too many CD experts for me to take the scene seriously, mind you I never did LOL.- Big Predicament.....what Do You Do When?
x- What Does It Take To Win Your Love
What is the most covered soul record that is played or not played as the case maybe on the Northernsoul scene? WHAT DOES IT TAKE (TO WIN YOUR LOVE AGAIN) Was the original Jnr Walker & the All Stars? There are covers by The Electric Cashmeres, The Californian Raisins, Santana, Johnny Bristol and a brilliant one by Garland Jeffreys. Who was the original and are there any more plus what is the most covered track?- Tracks Ya Should Hate But Don't Ever Get Sick Of
I Wanna Give You Tomorrow - Benny Troy- Duffy Suks ! Jully Black - Seven Day Fool
