Two unissued acetates BOTH SOLD
I know, I traded for it. It was Sam's originally, via John Anderson. It is a one off as far as I'm aware and an unissued instrumental [to the James Bounty vocal]. Rather than this becoming a thread please PM if you're after info. Cheers

Two unissued acetates BOTH SOLD
Two things up for grabs here that I'll never own again but needs must unfortunately. BOTH NOW SOLD Thanks to those who made offers. 1. One-off Frankford Wayne 7" acetate. Absolutely fantastic, thumping INSTRUMENTAL of [James Bounty's] 'Prove Yourself a Lady' Condition is nice vg++ (although there is a small tear on the flipside label - it's bloody rubbish btw). Sounds incredible played out.. 2. 10" Jobete acetate of Marvin Gaye's 'lonely lover' vg++ The sound quality will make your hair stand on end; it's absolutely incredible!!!! Tiny (and I mean tiny) flake right on the very edge but this is absolutely miles away from the playing surface. Date stamp and some handwriting on label ("without strings" etc) which I assume was done when it was cut. Offers (via PM only Please) With not very rare records fetching four figures on a regular basis these days I'm gonna start these off at £1000 min bid each. (They won't be going anywhere at that price though). If I get an offer I think is acceptable they'll go. If I don't they won't. Best bet is, if you want to own it offer what it's worth to you. Will sort scans etc for anyone who is genuinely interested.

Most expensive "common" records
I suspect that the majority of UK-based folk collect in the broad context of 'the scene' over here so that's what has always been used as a general yardstick. Subjective for sure but 30-40 years worth of knowledge and experience gives you a start. Doubtless, the Internet and, to a much lesser extent, JMs guide(s) have enabled a much broader picture to be built up in that you can determine very quickly what's pretty readily available and what isn't, what's battered and what isn't etc. Anyone looking to buy a record without being sure what to pay for it would do well to check Popsike, discogs, SS sales before resorting to big dealer's websites IMHO. If that's where it's at you're going to pay a premium for it. If you're prepared to do the leg work and go through sales boxes you're always going to increase your chances of a better deal; some things never change! Better still, back your own ears and don't chase the same records as every bugger else

'Spot-light On' Roger Banks
If I had to pick one word I'd be torn between 'sensible' and 'mature', for the following reasons: - Hoovering dance floors mid-all nighter; -putting 'danger slippery floor' signs by people doing 'acrobatics'; -running onto a [sticky] dancefloor and trying to slide on his knees, before going immediately face down after catching the inevitable crab; - getting in the boot of his wife's car, unbeknown to her, by way of a 'surprise' when she got to work; - taping your record box (and I mean end to end) to a table five minutes before you're due to dj; - sticking bread on people's chalet windows to goad seagulls into a reaction; - ridiculous phone calls; - sending single frozen peas to customers in LP mailers. I could go on That aside, he's got as much musical knowledge and passion as anyone I know, has never been up his own arse, always found and played stuff no one else had and never got nearly enough credit IMHO. One of the [ever fewer] reasons for making the effort to go out these days is the chance to catch up with Roger; you're guaranteed to learn something new - not necessarily useful, granted, but new nonetheless - and have a laugh. Great bloke and a proper Rsoul

Confused of Preston
Is Pacifically an oceanic reference or the same as specifically? Still confused Preston
-
Confused of Preston
Or starts one with:"With all due respect." Brace yourself ... That's why they're called bastardos Dave, or summat like that anyway.
-
Confused of Preston
I'm always praying for "course you can, kitchen's through the back ..." If you go into Starbucks etc and opt for the radical "a cup of coffee please" - deliberately avoiding the use of words like skinny - two things can happen: a. the whole thing either grinds to an amusing and confused halt; or b. it backfires horribly because you're then asked a dozen questions, at least seven of which you don't understand

Confused of Preston
Morning Is "stone mint" better than mint? When is a "Grail" not really a Grail (or even remotely holy)? Who decides what is "rare and underplayed" and how? Does "big ticket" mean "some clowns with too much money and no idea bid each other up"? When was "please can I have" officially replaced by "can I get"? Cut me some slack, I'm nearly fifty and don't know what's happening ...
