  1. Guns of Navaron , the ten commandments , and Phoenix city are well known Wheel plays , I thought it would be nice to play Broadway Jungle for a change, think I may have come across it from a Hideaway CD ? 54 46 is as you say Toad , however it has been very popular on the scene and its now time for a new wide ball tune to excite those that like this sort of stuff , I may be wrong but I think Dog War could be just as popular the fact that it is Ska is academic to someone who normally isn't into anything that is reg/ska orientated... all in my opinion off course.
  2. It was one I would have liked to have , but never owned . I think it may also be on another label...which is blue that's the issue , me having a silly moment I always remember the colour first lol
  3. Thanks Ian , 99.9% of them worked for me , the only one that didn't hit the mark was Merle Spears and I think the Ikettes was a bit too fast x
  4. My playlist incorporates many of the artists that were favored down the wheel , I tried to do the research and play a few that were played at all the wheels and added tunes that I thought would fit the room. Junior Parker - These kind of blues - Duke Bobby Blue Bland - You got me - Duke Fats Domino - If you don't know what love is -HMV Jimmy McCracklin - That's the way it goes - Imperial Merle Spears - Ain't no need - Atlantic Slim Harpo - Gonna Keep what I got - Excello Lowell Fulsom - Talkin Woman - Lowell Fulsom Jimmy McCracklin - Can't raise me - Imperial Tommy Ridgley - My ordinart Girl - RIC Betty Harris - Ride your Pony - Sansu Betty Harris - 12 red roses - Sansu Etta James - Tighten up your own thing - Cadet Sugar Pie Dessanto - Soulful dress - Checker Fontella Bass & Bobby McClure - Don't mess up a good thing Paulette Parker - Gimme back my love - Duke Buddy Ace -Hold on - Duke Riff Ruffin - Peepin & Hidin - Duke Vernon Garrett - Shine it on - Kent Clarence Murrey - Lets get on with it - SSS international Eddie Harrison & the short cuts - Your eyes may shine - Pepper McKinley Mitchell - You know I've tried- Chimneyville Stacy Johnson - Don't you believe him - Modern Soul Brothers Six - What you got - Atlantic Howard Tate - How come my bull dog don't bark - Verve Jimmy Hughes - Neighbor , Neighbor - Fame Otis Redding- Look at the girl - Atco Arthur Conley - Aunt Dora's love soul shack - Atco Eddie Floyd - Bye Bye Baby - Speciality Roger Collins - She's a good woman - Galaxy Ricardo Ray - Nitty Gritty-Aleure Don Gardner -Tighten up your love bone Ikettes - Peaches & Cream - Modern Toots & the Maytals Prince Buster & the all stars - Dog War - Prince Buster Googie Rene - Smokey Joe's la la
  5. Mine is an Atlantic demo I got it from a guy called Dave in Sudbury Essex , had it for around 15 years always thought it underplayed and a great tune , it suited the wheel down to the ground. Its got Drive on the other side.
  6. I just played this at wheel today , it went down really well x Carms
  7. A big thanks to Pete , my record came yesterday so I will be able to play it today in the Twisted Wheel second room Actually Sean showed me his copy last night and played it to a well appreciative crowd last night , went down really well it was lovely to see some of the younger elements in the crowd really get down to it. Carms x
  8. Gloria for me
  9. How much would it be worth if it didn't have the NOC biro on label ? as a matter of interest , I was offered one by PM ..... I could be showing some ignorance here but I thought what was asked for was way too high for a reggae record or am I just out of touch
  10. This is the one I wanted , and Pete has very kindly sent me his copy , much better than the above one in my view ... this could be the next 54 46 ... it really got under my skin...
  11. I agree Robert I was talking to someone I know that went to Brazenose street he also said he spent a lot of time at the mojo in Sheffield.
  12. Yes please I found a great site called and the beat goes on which many from Brazenose street days have commented in . What intrigues me was that the music appeared to be vastly different to Whitworth street > I wonder if that caused any fallings out because to my ear the music policy had split / changed with the move ... or was it like that at Whitworth street and then evolved into the more staxy Atlantic type sounds? I have it from good authority Brazenose street leaned to more blue beats /Rythem and Blues
  13. Thanks for info guys I couldn't' find one ? Found 2 but need this record for the weekend , the two I have found will not get to me for saturday the french island picture sleeve one looks nice Just listened to dog war on island and that is much slower ... Broadway is much better in my view
  14. Anyone got one for sale ? thanks Carms x
  15. This is hotting up now as it is getting closer , hope you are feeling better Fay , looking forward to the event very much x
  16. There are many that will keep the wheel rolling for a few more years regardless of where the venue is. The wheels home is in THEIR hearts , and that is something nobody can take away from them
  17. Yesterday 30.12.12 we said goodbye to one of the most iconic clubs of the 60's , the Twisted Wheel at Whitworth street. The day was so memorable in that it proved you are never too old to dance and have a good time. They came out in their droves all those King Bee's from the Brazenose street and many that frequently attended Whitworth street. I felt so privileged to listen to their stories and gasp with excitement at listening to them talk of times past. I had MIllie on my left telling me that she went the "Flamingo" club in Wardour Street and saw the Motown revue and Little sueie on my right talking of Brazenose street and a Manchester that we both knew in the days of the underground Market , and as it turned out both of us working for the same company in Bridgewater place . The three hours in Monroe's past in a flash. We squeezed in with many others to feast in the party frenzy that was the last day at Whitworth street. The walls literally poured with excitement . It was so great to be able to share our last embrace of the home of Soul music in Manchester with so many that still held this place in their hearts after so many years. I was able to dance on both floors , be it a shuffle as there wasn't much room . I was looking around to see if there was a little something to take with me as a bit of memorabilia but realized that all I needed was what I already had ... my memories , which thankfully have all been great one's This is the only club I have been to where everyone appears to be happy and having a great time , the atmosphere there was like know where else not a grumble in the house ever. It is sad to see the building go , but the WHEEL will never leave us as long as we have breath in our bodies and a willingness to dance onto the next venue. I shall never forget my first wheel experience hearing Bobby Bland singing Call on me and recalling my observation at the time of people leaving in the early hours where there actually appeared to be clouds of steam around them as they hit the cold morning air , I said at the time it was like Wheel Ghosts of the past hitched the ride for the night and then exited as they left Massive thanks to Pete Roberts and all of the Dj's for their commitment past and for the future of NQ live hosting the New Twisted Wheel. 19. Can I just wish the original poster a merry Christmas too and say sorry for getting on the soap box without acknowledging that you are new to this forum and just trying to start up a reasonable conversation , you have had a birth of much debate and I think a little envy from those that are now facing the fifty shades of old lol Welcome to SS
  20. Looking back its been a stunningly soulful year attended some superb larger venues this year and also seen many smaller more intimate one's really do well. Had a sad loss in a great friend losing his battle to live "Nogsy" Mark Newman but also had a new member of my family arrive Keidis . Collecting wise , my Jewel has to be Brenda Jones this year , thank you Browny x Health wise a year I will be glad to get behind me having had a major operation and then had complications which took three months of my year away from me soulfully , but hey ho life goes on Made some great new friends and I have been inspired by the soul activists around me that the next year will be even better
  21. Sad to hear along with Jimmy two great artists have gone so close to Christmas it must be very sad for their familys .
