My 13 month old granddaughter is visiting and she has just lifted a 50 count record box with 40 records in cardboard sleeves off the ground. Not using the handle mind but by grasping it both sides and just lifted it like a sodding weight lifter...... nearly a clean and jerk! HELP!!!!!!! I think I'm gonna be in trouble over the the next few years.... Is there anyway I can tell my daughter Not to visit? lol. Dave

Now you kind , friendly, generous, always giving up your vinyl souls....................... I am Looking and want to purchase a copy on either UK (High Note) or Jamaican (Gay Feet) of the following the First Generation "Give him Up". Must play without noise, frying eggs etc! PM me with price and condition. Here's hoping ps. If you have 2 copies I know someone who might have the second copy? Cheers Dave H

I think a lot of Soul, records were covered by Jamaican singers through their labels and to be honest in the main (what I know of/heard) they did a bloody fine job of it. No mistaking Smokey's vocal prowess, but for me The First Generation does it for me, probably because I do love girlie vocals on soul records. Dave

Jason Thanks for that I really, really really, did want to know that lol.. Mind you I have tracked records for 5 times longer than that and bided my time, can live without one............but not for too long I hope! Your on the list for the second copy!!!!........If I find one first that is. Cheers Dave

Cheers Pete How much does this go for? is it rare, elusive or general run of the mill Dave

I am looking for a copy of The First Generation "give him up" . I believe it is on High Note but this might not be the original release any help on info , price etc would be of help and MOST of all obtaining said platter. TIA Dave
  8. Quinvy Possibly true but would of thought the artwork would be identical? Coupled with the fact it's a small label, I would of thought it didn't warrant 2 plants doing a run? Still wonder why 2 sets of credits are missing from the label on the light blue issue? Perhaps we will never find out, like a lot of un answered questions regarding soul records. Dave

Steve has your Sonny Herman got producer credit on RHS of label under record number not as answered previously, we new post re Sonny Herman on here. dave
  10. Hi Chalky thanks for posting scans up, hoped someone would, should of gone to you first! yep same as my 2 that's why I wondered why the difference, any significant reason? if say anybody has a light blue with the 2 extra lines of credit or a dark blue without the extra credits that would make 4 variants? Don't really want to consider the question of original or not as I don't know enough about release details and wanted to do some fishing out there to find out more, but it is certainly a different pressing. Dave
  11. Train spotting time. has anybody noticed the two label variants for the Sonny Herman track "What about me" on Utopia one label is a lighter blue than the other and one has an extra 2 lines of writing. the lighter blue is say more like a Verve or Fontana blue, while the darker blue is an odd shade of blue so before any conclusions are/ can be made I was wondering if those who have a copy can let me know what shade of blue their copy is and is there any credits under the label number on the right hand side? I want to build up some info from others if possible to ascertain why possible label colour variant etc cheers Dave H

Steve Im gonna put a post up about Sonny Herman variants as it's bloody bugging me now, so sorry for jumping before you've had chance to reply. Dave
  13. Mike To be honest I never really noticed the feedback section until just now, when I went in and was looking for it! again perhaps old age. I think my main point was perhaps meant for when purchases have been made outside of this forum and was just brainstorming an idea. I was not trying to criticise or pick holes in anything. I think other comments on this post have said it all and it's down to the individual to either leave feedback or not as the case maybe. Case closed methinks, Dave

Steve A two hour special , must of missed that, will have to look it up. On a train spotting track your Sonny Herman "What about me" is it on a lighter blue Utopia or the darker shade of blue? if it's on the lighter blue has it got the a two extra lines of credits under record number on the right hand side of the label? "Producer" Herman Chaney Sad I know but was wondering if anybody else had noticed the 2 label variants for this track. Which leads me too wonder if there were 2 pressings? Any thoughts or inside knowledge? Dave
  15. Was thinking just a simple area on here, where say I could type in the "real name" of a seller and just say thanks openly and so that other buyers can perhaps type in the sellers name and view those comments, know who made them and perhaps take that on board before during or after they have purchased something. I think we all take the top sellers or even people we know, who we buy off a little bit for granted, over recent months/years I have had some cracking deals and saying thanks to them personally is one thing but just feel it would be great to say it openly on here without hiding behind avatars etc. Nothing in depth like "I think I really stole that record of you" price wise or "I'm think I slightly overpaid for it but really wanted it " type of post, just a simple "great deal " or "great service" type post. Perhaps I'm asking to much when a simple thanks has done the trick , it's just sometimes I just really want to sing the praises of people I have had records off, even though I have known them for years! Even buying records from people that are not connected or via this site could be included as it's a mutual thing, that's probably why I'm not aware of the feedback thing on here. I don't know, I really just posted an idea in me head that I think would be great, but would only work if others thought the same way. Maybe it's an age thing or getting soft in me old age because of living too much in this southern air and need too get back up north! Dave H.
  16. NS UK You surely must be liable to some offence under the Geneva Convention for just posting this,,,,,,,,,,,email, download, CD. iPod, podcast, or what ever digital media you care to mention..........YOUR promoting VYNIL sound quality , shit man your a fuckin vynil terrorist.....................I haven't even got a gun...... Just a 45rpm spider and deck. what fuckin joy that was from a trainspotter point of view respect Dave H
  17. Was just wondering if the site could/would warrant a seperate section laid over to feedback from buyers for record sellers/ dealers, whether large or small? now I know there is feedback on ebay, discogs, gemm etc but from a purely soul music point of view I think it would be great on the Soulsource forum site to have an individual feedback page for soul sellers. This comes from a 2 pronged thought 1. We within our own Soul music circle know the main dealers/sellers and 2. There are the lesser/ individual seller who we don't all know. The main train of thought, is that, on this forum we can ( if we didn't know now). Gauge trustworthiness, based on condition of record, delivery, postage etc for won't of a better word on individuals. In essence, an individual, ( now I'm not saying a Tim Brown, John Manship, Craig Moroer, Lew etc) that we all know but including them in this. That way, not being in anyway a yard stick, but as a body, we can as individuals make a judgement on purchases from said sellers.? just a thought? NB. This train of thought has come from two recent record buys where the sellers, while known to me and I assume they know me have taken my word on purchases and come through. It would be nice just to acknowledge this as a buyer and and hopefully promote confidence in future sales from said sellers and buyers. if the administrators think this needs a separate section then I'm with them but only if the sellers are individuals and not say a company? Steve After wading through your set lists, I have decided to sell me records and just listen to your sets. Mainly because A. It's easier B. Cheaper or better still move into a shed in your back garden and become your record curator cracking sets mate, but would expect nothing else........ Only one Ref-o-ree track.....but hey what a track Dave H.
  19. Levi went " Loco in Acapulco" but pretty sure he didn't get arrested for it! He also said "One chain don't make no Prison" so unless he had insight or was on the run........ I'll get me coat Dave.
  20. Mark I always notice....just don't like to mention it too much, as it might go to your head and you will start thinking I like your taste in music. Dave
  21. Not sure if this is the right place for this, but this CD has just blown me away considering Its a 14 tracker that is just fantastic IMHO. I have been in the office all day and this was the 3rd cd played and has been on repeat since around 10am til 5.45pm. If you like female vocals, southern style, like a mix of say Denise La Salle meets Millie Jackson with all the sultry vocals and sexual innuendo lyrics then if you have not heard this then do yourself a favour and get a copy. Slowies, mid pacers and down right get down soul. thanks Fish I actually got round to playing a CD that I have purchased off you (he will know what I mean) just a backlog of around 30 now methinks from around a couple of years ago? This is however a 2014 release. If Mark Randle can play a track off it at Cleethorpes than the world has hope! Lol. "It's all about ME! I'm taking back my life"...............no that's the title of the CD. Phew this is gonna take some beating as an original album from anybody this year. Hope you enjoy.....just had to share this in case you've missed it. Dave H

Gutted totally gutted. "Just Soul" Womack nite that was just after the 3 Amigos + 1 had seen him in concert and it seemed that every other or was it every record was a Womack track..........? Totally an unforgettable nite........? If you had planned a soul nite featuring one artist, most people would have said it won't work? Well if you were not there then shame on you, because it was just one of those nites where it worked to a tee. My thoughts are with the Womack Family, but Sean,Tatts, Kev, John & Bully.....we enjoyed his music...but you guys championed it. Respect lads for your love of a true Soul music legend without discussion. Rip Mr.Musicman Dave Halsall.
