  1. Interesting thread! I started out my 'Soul' life as a 'Suede head' (not quite skin), Used to wear the Staprest, Docs, Ben Sherman, Crombie overcoat with suede collar, and carry a brolly, some referred to us as brolly boys. We used to go all over the North usually hitching a lift off some scooter boy or if we were very lucky in a car, to the clubs who usually played early Soul (Rufus Thomas, Otis, Aretha etc.) and quite a bit of Reggae. I loved it all. We also used to frequent the coffee bars in Leeds such as the 'Del Rio' and 'Acapulco' and others that I can't remember off the top of my head. The vivid memory is that at every table there was a jukebox that was linked to the main jukebox, so that you didn't even have to move to put a tune on. I know it sounds strange but 2 of the tunes that stick out from the time (not Soul) are 'Chirpy chirpy cheep cheep - Middle of the road' and 'In the year 2525 - Zager and Evans', they always seemed to be playing when I went in :-) so looking at the timeframe that would have been in 1969-1971. Just remembered another that was always playing too 'Blue Mink - Melting pot', OH! and the 'Onion song' :-)
  2. Went for £76, ridiculous! but I'm happy
  3. ERM???? NO!! LOL, just revised the database to £30 :-)
  4. Heheh!! so if you had the same 'Repro' what would you price it as :-) Very confusing, got mine priced in my database at a tenner. Just been looking round and even the Grapevine one went for £38 recently.
  5. Guaranteed way to win em is to bid a grand, 99% of the time it'll go for nowhere near that, but you're just about guaranteed to win, and it pisses the hell out of the other bidders
  6. Or like that guy said while he was waiting in the queue of about 200 people to get into Wigan Casino "I only came out for a bottle of milk" True story.
  7. Seriously doubt it erm............................????? Pete??
  8. :P LOL! Thats what I wanna know! bu bum tss!! :-)
  9. Hold the press, gottit!! Always the case, you write a post and then it comes to you. John E Paul - I wanna know. Thanks anyway.
  10. The title says it all really. What was the BIG sounding track that came out on UK Decca? Male vocal probably 74ish, not Mickey Moonshine. Early onset Alzheimers setting in :-(
  11. This is my boot, just so the difference can be seen
  12. I really can't remember exactly Pete, but obviously it will have been mid 70s'ish.
  13. Staying in the general area, does anyone remember this? I know I played at it, but the memory of it is quite dim. Can anyone shed any light? And here's the 'Taurus' flyer. With big tunes from 'Lems Guess' and 'Guy Dariel'
  14. Comparing it to mine which is a boot, it sound like they have put it through soundforge and boosted the top end to make it sound more modern. Why bother?, the original has a great sound dating from the era it was made in. If it ain't broke......................
  15. Yeah excellent soundtrack, and to me very 'Blues brothers'seque' Well recommended.
  16. Looks amazing, I was very lucky to pick one of the demos up cheaply. Worth every penny and a brilliant track to boot, well! not to boot if you know what I mean
  17. I have just watched the excellent film 'Soul Men' on TV. The last track in the movie 'Walk in the park' was written by 'Cee-lo Green' I have searched everywhere and can't see a release of it either separately or and an album or CD. Has anyone any idea if this was ever released in any format either by Cee-lo Green, or by the actors in the film 'Samuel L Jackson & Bernie Mac' It's not even on the movie S/T?
  18. All so familiar Pete aren't they? The more you look at them the more you recognise them.
  19. Heheh! Thanks. There are loads on there that I know the faces of but can't put names to. I know quite a few of them used to come to the Central back in the day.
  20. Wasn't really sure where to put this. I have come across a photo of the Dewsbury Soulies and wondered if anyone knew any names? The photo was taken in Scarborough. I have remastered the photo so looks a lot better than the original. and before you say it I know the guy 2nd bottom right is the spit of a young David Walliams
