  1. This is what I play my records on at home. I have had this for about 3 years now. It is an Hitachi SDT-400 and was produced in Japan in the 1970s. It's retail cost back then was nearly £1100, it was top of the range and they are now very collectable. Retro til' I die!
  2. On eBay now! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310411670903?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649
  3. Got it through today and it looks like it's never been played, really nice and well chuffed for £4. I will look into the other releases on 'Tower' too, thank you all for the advice.
  4. Ebay will help, from experience, although a completely different item (not a record), I bought an iPhone off a guy in Cheshire, when I got it it was duff, so wrote to him and he said he'd refund me if I sent the phone back. I did, he didn't, so opened a case on eBay and after about 3 weeks they refunded me in full including postage through the buyers protection scheme.
  5. Well done!! Good luck!
  6. You can claim through Paypal as you are covered through the 'Buyers protection scheme'. As said above keep all the emails as proof. If he listed the records as Originals you have a case if they were not when you got them. You may have to prove to Paypal that they were 'not as described', in other words that they were bootleg copies when described as originals. What Paypal then do, is if they come down on your side, write to the seller and ask them to resolve the situation, if they do not get a reply, they will try to take the money out of the sellers paypal or bank account to pay you back. If they can't do that, they will repay you from Paypal and give the seller a strike as selling counterfeit goods. The whole process could take up to 4 weeks, but at least you'll get your money back. You REALLY should name them on here though so that SS fellows know to avoid. P.S. You can also request the sellers contact details so that you can ring them to try to sort the problem out amicably/
  7. I suppose it does really, but Tony had the collection from Heaven as far as Soul is concerned too.
  8. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310410134443?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649
  9. Excellent news! Well I paid £4 for it, so at least it's not a boot and pleased it's a legit release. Thank you
  10. Yes I agree, that is why I tried to narrow the spectrum by adding 'I am thinking of content and quality rather than capacity' I also mentioned that the late great Tony Bank's collection included many demos (Motown etc), so as not to narrow it down to just Northern, Tony's collection included a lot of reggae, Ska, Rockabilly and Jazz. I suppose the thread title may have been more appropriate if "In your opinion" was added.
  11. Here's one to get your teeth into. Forgive me if there has been a similar thread in the past. What is the best Soul collection you have either seen or had definite knowledge of (not just rumours)? I am thinking of content and quality rather than capacity. I'll start the ball rolling with the amazing collection of 'Leeds Central' DJ legend and collector 'Tony Banks' Tony had every demo on Motown (red and white and Green and white) Stateside, Columbia, Parlaphone, Fontana etc. etc. plus thousands of quality UK releases not regularly seen. What collection do you know of??
  12. I have read that 'The Larks - Grooving at the gogo' was recorded for the 'Harthon' record label, but released on the 'Tower' label. Was there any actually released on 'Harthon'? Reason I ask is I have just bought a cheapie on 'Harthon', will it be a bootleg? Not bothered if it is like, but just wondered. Thanks.
  13. Excellent and thanks. I have done a little research since posting this and have found that 2 copies of the 'Patterns' album have gone for £23-24 in the not too distant past, and one at £51 in 2005. Great albums both of the ones I got for £2 and now thinking of keeping the 'Patterns' one as you suggest. Well! keeping both, but was thinking previously of selling the 'Patterns' one. Thanks
  14. Had the boot of this, bought for £16 off the bay. Sold in a part collection, wish I hadn't, still love it.
  15. Just got back from the daily hunt and picked up 2 mint Kiki Dee albums for £1 each. Kiki Dee - Patterns on UK Philips (includes 'On a magic carpet ride, I dig you baby, and a slow version of 'When we get there (Paul Anka) and Kiki Dee - Kiki Dee on Sounds Superb (Tamla Motown farmed) which include Our day will come...., Love makes the world go round, and Love is a warm kind of sorrow + more. I know the second one isn't as rare as the Motown copy but still for a quid? and both in unplayed condition? Not a bad find me thinks?
  16. For sale now on eBay! Susan Maughan - That other place VG+ condition https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310407868070?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649
  17. Excellent, thank you very much
  18. Can someone please give me an indication to the price one should be forking out for a UK 'UK American Recordings' Demo (Red), of 'Brenda Lee Jones - Your the love of my life'? Any help muchly appreciated. Thank you
  19. I have had 2 of these. My first one was on normal Roulette, which I paid about £12 5 years ago. It had an edge crack but played ok. I replaced it with a demo which are quite common I believe and I paid the same for that and sold my cracked one for about £8, Both bought on the bay. I think that for resale the US Demo is your best bet although not a pricey item, saying that it's a matter of preference as many would prefer the British copy.
  20. So how many of these original press copies are known of? Guessing not too many if it's fetching those Bucks.
  21. Patti & The Emblems - Gonna love you a long long time. Original 'Kapp' Demo now on eBay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310405170252?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649
  22. After much deliberation I have decided to sell this demo. If anyone is interested the link is in the eBay sales forum.
  23. The idea is to compress them all into one thread, this one. so all of the info is in one place instead of scattered about all over 'SS'. If there is a summery of all records that everyone has a query about all in one place, it will make getting info so much easier.
