  1. Hi blokies and blokesses Can anyone please give me an idea of what I should be looking to pay for a copy of 'Pearlean Gray - I don't want to cry' on the original Green Sea label? I'd say it was Mint-, I have been offered it and want to know if I am getting a reasonable deal. Thank you Steve
  2. I was just sat looking at artist names and record titles, and for some reason (don't ask why) just for a laugh I thought about changing them round a bit and making them humerous. Here's a couple I came up with; 'Kenny Scramble - The yolks on you' 'Chilly Watkins - The ice man' You get the idea, I'm sure the more immature amongst you will think of a few more
  3. Yes, be VERY caerful and only use luke warm water and a little wahing up liquid. I got an original acetate 7" copy of Jocelyn Brown's 'Somebody elses guy', tried to clean it up with isopropenol which works perfectly on Vinyl or styrene, but completely stripped the top coat off the acetate (lesson learned). It is now framed and hanging on the wall above my computer with the original 'Island' records info sheet. Looks nice, but an expensive display piece.
  4. Swish my old mate, still loving what your doing fellah, you were one of the ones that influenced me in my long Djing career in the early days of the 'Leeds Central'. I was honoured to spend time with you back then, and feel very lucky that I have acquired your talent and personality to carry on DJing at @ 'The Leeds Central' alldayers. Thank you. I wish you good luck with the book and hope that you eventually get it published, and if you need any help from my many memories of the old days feel free to ask. Maybe about the time someone told us that if you peeled the skins off peanuts and rolled them into a cigarette, they would get you high, so me and you bought about 2 pounds of peanuts and sat peeling them for hours at my house, rolled the skins up into a fag, and.............f*ck ALL!!! LOL!!! Pricless memories!! Below is a witty poem I wrote in the very early days of going to the 'Torch', If you wish to use it, please feel free to, and to use my name too, I don't mind. Old King Cole's Soul Old King Cole Loved his Soul Loved merry old Soul did he He called for Danny White, Jimmy Thomas and Bill Black Man! What a fiddlers 3 Now first on stage came Jimmy Thomas and he sang 'The beautiful night' when he had finished he left the stage And on came Danny White When Danny White was on the stage He sang 'Cracked up over you' Then he sang 'Natural Soul Brother' To mention but a few Then on the stage came our well known friend Bill Black in great demand And guess who came on with his combo? That's right! The Bob and Earl band Now both the bands went on to play 'Little Queenie' and 'My little girl' But all this soulful music Sent King Cole into a whirl Now all the Ladies, Lords and Dukes All did their very best But alas they could do nothing And laid his Soul to rest.
  5. The list was copied and pasted from the personal database I use to keep a record of what I have to save having to individually list them on Ebay. The tag 're-press' was only there for my own reference so that if I saw another copy, I could refer to the list to see what I had it on. To be honest, it's a nice, but not rare collection of all well known, mostly floorfilling records, obviously not meant for the trainspotters, but for someone who wants to either start a collection, add to a collection, or buy to sell on. Even if the bids went up to £1000 (which it won't) thats still only £6.89 per record, and every one of them is easily worth that. I have now listed what I am pretty sure are original copies.
  6. 2 methods that I have always used with excellent results are; 1) run some luke warm water into a bowl, add 1 drop of washing up liquid and stir but not enough to create bubbles. Take a soft lint free cloth, dip into the water and give the record a good wash with it avoiding the label. To rinse, run under a cold water tap again avoiding the water getting on the label, and dry with a dry soft cloth. If it doesn't work the fist time do it again, you will get markably good results with this method. 2) Go to a chemist and ask for a bottle of 'Isopropenol', this is the ingredient that is in EVERY off the shelf record cleaning solution, 'Isopropenol' is what you can always smell. Tell the pharmacist that it's for cleaning records, otherwise they might think you're a 'Sniffer' and it is highly potent. This cleans up the records fantastically and a lot of the time can even get rid of minor scuffs ands scratches. Be careful how you use it though, it a good idea to avoid getting it on your skin. Hope this helps. These are methods used by me and my staff for 20 years when I owned record shops, and believe me, I saw and heard some real bad states of records that after these methods were fit for sale.
  7. Thanks again Pete, there was a lot of interest when listed last time, over 100 watchers. There are some great titles even though not all original, still very worth having. Also if they had been all originals I certailnly wouldn't have been starting the bidding at £150, more like £1500
  8. Hi Pete and thanks for the observation. I am not expecting £1000 to be honest, it is stated that they are not all originals in the description text, but there are originals in there too as well as re-presses etc, and even some of the re-presses are worth quite a bit these days. It is what it is, not a rare collection and it's not described as that. As it says a good starter collection, and there is still money to be made even if they are not all originals. Steve
  9. Some great titles, a ready made starter collection or trader investment. Ends this Saturday 3/3/2012
  10. Also Ernie, just realised what you said. A seller can't leave negative feedback for a buyer on Ebay anymore, it has to be positive or nothing, only the buyer can leave negative feedback for the seller. SICK I know, but true.
  11. Reason being Earnie, it's someone many of us know, they rang me up and apologised with a reason that was valid, and me being me, thought it not a good idea to give negative feedback, although I was not amused, still thought it a better idea just just cancel the sale and re-list the collection. Also apart from this transaction, the buyer has quite good feedback. If the same happened to me and couldn't complete the sale for the same reason, I wouldn't like to think I was getting neg feedback either. At least you know who the buyer was, so you can use your own judgement as to wether you let him bid on your auctions or not. Also I offered the collection as a second chance offer, but that person had already commited to buying another collection so he couldn't afford it either Steve
  12. Re-listed due to non paying bidder 145 singles - all good titles and all listed https://www.ebay.co.u...STRK:MESELX:IT

  17. I am having a clear out of my Northern Soul singles. There are 145 for sale on Ebay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310379185381?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649#ht_2923wt_948 Nothing special but some decent titles all the same.
  18. Hi Boba, I think the conway Twitty one was 'Danny Boy' and the millions of others that were recorded. It was my mistake and the title is actiually 'Sonny Boy' Sorry for the confusion. Steve
  19. Thanks again Alan for your help, I have managed to track a copy of this down for £15 + £1 P&P. Great tune!! If anyone hasn't heard this, give it a chance and listen it past the 35 second mark.
  20. YES YES YES!!!! Thanks Alan that's the one, obviously got the title wrong. Thank you so much matey. Steve
  21. Can someone please help? A few moths ago I heard a record called 'Danny Boy', started off slow and then sped up, female vocal, might have been a 'B' side and for some reason 'MGM' keeps popping into my mind? Might be wrong there though. The artist has completely gone out of my head, but I think she was quite well known. Any clues please? PS - No I haven't lost it :-) This IS the Danny Boy track that a million artists have recorded, but this version was Northern'ed up to f**k!!
  22. A very rare book on Ebay! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310377710314?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649#ht_790wt_948
