More southern soul sounds from the mighty Stax Records of Memphis, including unissued tracks from the Soul Children and Eddie Floyd.

Stax Records in Memphis was one of the centres of southern soul, and yet due to its many hits and big city location this often gets forgotten. We redressed that balance with the release of “Nobody Wins: Stax Southern Soul” in 2012 but there was so much more to play that we’re back with 20 more tracks that capture the deep emotion and soulful feel of the Memphis behemoth.

    Goodness, was it really 9 years ago that the first compilation was released. This set has "essential" stamped all over it.

    I've had to listen to this a few times before I really appreciated it, but this a really classy CD from beginning to end. 

    Although I knew the Isaac Hayes track from the Sweet Taste of Sin CD from 20 years ago, hearing it again sounds an absolute deep soul classic to me. You can't help thinking, when you hear songs like this, that he really must've been going through this anguish in real life. The pain is so evident in the last minute or so.
