But what is to do if a record has two good sides and I don't want any of them become unplayable? Is it enough to apply some glue to the crack in the run in/-out area only on both sides?

Just don't use superglue. Especially if it's styrene.

I bought a mint copy of Abstract Reality on Sport some years ago, put it in my bag and sat on it

The crack was staright and clean so i decided to superglue it back together. The superglue proceed to melt the styrene. Not good!

I just bought a record off a top dealer that he had repaired with glue and both sides play perfect so it is possible and i,m happy cos it was at 10% of the book price , it just looks like it,s been buffed where the crack is, i would imagine you would need to use a glue like Pritt craft glue as it,s washable etc.

Hard to tell Benji !!, could well be but as it,s been buffed it could have been glued all the way across but there is a chance that the buffing was done before it was glued !

by using a washable water based glue if it don't work it will just wipe off and won't effect the vinyl/styrene (he says fingers crossed lol)

I have another rare record that arrived snapped and i just sellotaped the B side and that plays perfect too, good job the flip was crap tho !!

I had some dub plates made of unreleased Motown stuff and made my own labels, used Pritt PVA craft glue to stick them on and once dried i just wiped excess off with a cloth... simples .. !!

You just need to glue it right on the edge of the record to hold it together

This is what I've done in the past, trick is to make sure that it's done on a very flat surface.

I have used aroldite to repair records, i have been lucky because the crack has only gone through one half of the record, i normally use two pieces of very smooth wood about 1 inch wide and 2 inches long, place the pieces of wood each side of the record and clamp the record together with a G clamp making sure you can see and feel the run in and run out (place the wood at 90 degrees to the crack), when clamped you fan feel if two sides of the crack are level, also hold up to the light to make sure the crack has closed, once you are happy thet the crack is closed and the two halfs are level apply a little aroldite rapid to the run in edge and to the inside of the center hole, leave to set, then un do glamp and give it a play, it works for me, i.e THE GLORIES - I WORSHIP YOU BABY on DATE DEMO two slight ticks on run in and a few on the run out, i would say it plays EX+, have had MINT graded records play worse on the run in and out, bought the glories for a tenner so not to bad, hope this makes sence and helps
