January 29, 201015 yr For me Marvin Gaye & Tammi terrel. As individuals they were great But when they came together their voices complimented each other so well they became something else. So that there is King & Queen on the same peices of vinyl for me
January 30, 201015 yr Check the avatar! Jackie Wilson Brenda Holloway BUT if we talking a King and a Queen then Marvin & Tammi(together)
January 30, 201015 yr Jackie & Brenda is a nice choice. Although my personal NORTHERN would be Edwin & Brenda. Lorraine is a close second. And of course Marvin & Tammi were great, but I think Brenda Holloway and, specially, Edwin Starr are regarded with much more intimate affection by the Northern scene. By the way, in some of M&T's best songs, incluiding Ain't No Mountain High Enough, each did their vocal takes separately and didn't meet at the studio...

For me that only adds to how good they really were because when you listen to those records it sounds like they're pouring their hearts out to each other.....pure quality to my ears .
