Ady's mentioned the "Frolickin' Kneecap" - which I thought was a brilliant name... or is that before then ?

I only co-ran the Harboro all nighters with Tony Clayton when Ally dropped out to be a businessman, I never liked that school hall type venue. I also did one at Loughborough Town Hall with Tony and a couple at Peterboro.

The Frollickin' Kneecap was the original 60s club in Harboro where I saw the likes of Brenton Wood, Zoot Money, The Family, Blossom Toes and the Ferris Wheel. It transformed into The Lantern for all nighters in 1970 or whatever year the Wheel closed because all the blocked up Mancs came down the night it was busted.

Out of interest, which nighters at Peterborough?

I went to the Loughboro one. About that time there were a few other good places to go to niters inthe East Midlands. Hinckley had just closed I think. Leicester too maybe, but Loughboro, and Notts Palais had some cracking niters on.

I have asked this before, but can anyone remember the guy who used to bash himself with a metal tray, at the point in records where most normal (if we can in any way be described as normal), people would clap? Really great character.

At the Loughbore one, we thought he was going mad at the end of the nite, but it was just the Market setting up outside ;-)

I got to one of the Harborough niters after an epic yet confused journey, was working late and missed a lift to the Niter as a few of the Notts lot where going early on (Friday's as I remember?). Ended up in a local nightclub getting bladdered, hated it, so decided to jump in a taxi from Notts to Harborough. Managed to get some help (ahem) in sobering myself up before making the journey there, only to realise on route that my taxi fare was going to be close to half a weeks wages!

Got to Harborough- wide awake by then, only to realise I didn’t have clue where the venue was, I wound down the window and stuck my head out listening for that familiar beat. After half an hour of going around in circles we found the venue but I then realised I only had a tenner to my name!

Gave the taxi driver my watch as deposit for the fare, he wasn’t too happy. I think I had a good night though!?

Moral of this story – buggered if I know!

my very first nighter was at lough town hall. went with a lad who had no interest in northern at all just didnt want to go home at the end of the night when the pub we all met in had shut so he tagged along. He kept awake for all of an hour !

Went to a couple off nighters at Loughbrough town hall will allways remember dancing to "Have some fun " every time i hear it it reminds me off that venue. We used to travel in a coach from cleethorpes all over the country to differant nighters every weekend the coaches we run by a lad called Jim Mallone. A young lad that worked in a clothes shop who now is a well Known northern dj and record dealer used to come along to, Infact they were two but the other one is more off a mod dj. 10 points if you can name them, on the subject off oddball allnighters we went to one at Ulceby Cross in lincs anybody go to that ?

Pete Widdison used to specialise in this at the West Hampstead 6TS dances and I've been known to dent a few myself. It was a less visual variation on Iggy Pop's self-harm.

Sorry it's a bit of a blur, probably the Wirrina where once myself and Roger Stewart were rumoured to be squad; Roger was crestfallen.

Think it's a P'boro paranoia!

About 4 years ago when I first re-visited the Fleet, a lot of punters were convinced I was squad and I reckon some of 'em at the two main events still think so!

Unfortunately, though, I never get offered a bribe :-)
