Any info appreciated with on the two ADVANCE boots below please,

PROPHETS - SUSPICION (ADVANCE 101)

EDDIE HOLLAND & THE CHECKMATES - LONELY LOVER (ADVANCE 102)

I know "Suspicion" was really the Originals but who actually was the speeded up version of "Lonely Lover" by?

Also......If anyone knows......

Was there any other ADVANCE 'recordings' released, current value of the above mentioned and when and where did they come from?

Read a thread on here a while ago but can't find it now the server change over has taken place. Actually I can't find much of anything regarding old post's now so your knowledge is appreciated.

There's obviously the Jimmy McFarland version that got released. Then came the Marvin Gaye version on the bunch of acetates that were found some years ago. Originally this was speeded up slightly when played (and thats how the first boot came out). A legit Motown remix was eventually released that was slightly slower. Following this, the original version was again booted at the proper speed following it's inclusion on the compilation CD "Marvin Gaye - The Master (I think???)

The legit Motown remix of Lonely Lover has the sh*tty synth's in it though, terrible. Flip to The World Is X-Rated.

Quite agree, the remix is awful. Stick with the boot or the CD release

The Advance release of Suspicion is slightly faster than we've come to know it over the years. The proper speed can be found on those blank white label boots with hand-written artist and titles from about 7-8 years ago.

Both the Advance boots are horrendously speeded up. "Lonely Lover" misses a second off the intro.

There are a few takes of Suspicion though, the one very similar to the boots that also appeared on CD's. The one that appeared on the This is Northern Soul cd and John McClure has a take more early 70's orientated. There is a mix in refosoul about 5 minutes long with few different takes.

The two advance recordings were lifted off a cassette tape that Bob Catteneo put together circa 1980. Unknown to the bootlegger of the record, Bob's cassette played slower than the one at the Nottingham record manufacturer. Consequently both 45s ended up being quicker...whoops that's what happens when Dean Anderson and me get together, Laurel and Hardy in the pressing plant. We were kids and we knew nowt..

Ps at that time 30 years ago the Originals was known as The Prophets. In answer to the original question this was me and Dean's only foray into pressing records it was just too embarrassing to do a 3rd release on Advance.

I had heard that the "Prophets" credit was A.K.A. "The Georgia Prophets" somewhere down the line.

Don't know where or why though now. Lost in the passing of time......

Anyone else heard about this miscredit or know why this was used as the artist

Can't vouch for that, but I do know that the '79 reissues of "I Got The Fever" by The Prophets (for the beach music scene) on BSP credited them as the Georgia Prophets. Maybe that's where the confusion arises??
